Diner Reviews
  • "This was my first time enjoying Providence. As a fine-dining employee myself, being on the "guest side" is always a completely different experience, where I often find myself being overly-critical of a restaurant as a result of my fine-dining background. However, the level of excellence and supreme service that Providence provided my wife and I, left us completely satisfied. From the amazing fruit cocktail and Amuse, to the decadent dessert, everything was outstanding and perfectly fulfilling as my 27th birthday celebration."

  • "A dinner guest and I enjoyed a memorably wonderful meal with wine pairing. Both of us have traveled internationally a good deal and enjoyed the offerings of amazing chefs. You know it is a good meal when you set down your fork and say "this is the best meal I've had in California".... more than once. The staff could not have been more attentive without being intrusive in any way. As close to a perfect meal as I've experienced in a decade."

  • "Always fabulous. The wine pairing was such a treat as it illustrated the importance of the proper flavor blending."

  • "Providence is by far our favorite dining experience in Los Angeles. We try and go as often as we can because the tasting menus are just not to be believed. The flavors, the fresh fish, and taste combinations, just cannot be beat anywhere. The wine list is amazing and the wine pairings is an experience as well. If you're a first timer give the nine course market menu a try to see if you can keep up with the spectacular dishes that are brought to you in perfect harmony. If that works for you then try the 16 cores the menu for next time. Providence is a fantastic dining experience that should not be missed."

  • "An amazing culinary experience let down by mediocre wait staff."

  • "It may have been the most expensive meal of my life, but the food was amazing, the service impeccable, and the setting was understatedly elegant. The fixed menus offer a wide and creative range of tastes, each a standout. And the wine pairings were perfect and wonderful. Can't be beat for that very special occasion meal."

  • "We celebrated my husband's birthday with a lovely and delicious three-hour dinner at this elegant fish restaurant. Although the menu and presentation of food is formal, the ambience and service are comfortable and friendly. There is no longer a la carte ordering but instead a selection from several prix-fixed menus, ranging in price and number of courses with wine pairing options. We added caviar to the four-course dinner that included fluke sashimi, a smoky halibut and pea soup, a choice of duck, salmon or veal and a delicious chocolate dessert. The four of us sampled the three entrees and enjoyed them all. This is a serious restaurant and quite expensive. Would recommend it without reservation for a special occasion."

  • "Had a great time with my sister for her birthday, we were visiting the area from nor cal. Bartender (I think her name was Katie) was great and made amazing drinks! Would definitely recommend to try it out, it was a great experience!"

  • "I went to Providence for lunch on a Friday, the dining room is really beautiful you can tell a lot of work went into the design and decor. It is also very nice, cozy, and quiet so you can sit back and really enjoy your meal. I ordered the lunch tasting menu with the wine pairing. Each dish was very well constructed and looked very beautiful. The dish that stood out to me was the veal (tenderloin?) I can't remember the exact cut off hand but it was sous vide cooked to perfection. Each wine pairing was also great. The wait staff is very friendly and attentive and will answer all the questions you ask. I hope I can come back to LA someday so I can try the dinner tasting. I highly recommend Providence to anyone."

  • "Other restaurants in Beverly Hills and Melrose do not come close to the level of service and quality of food as Providence. I have tried MOST of the DineLA restaurants and they all did not live up to Providence standard. The staff is really attentive and the food comes out fast. Total dining time for a four course meal was 1.5 hours. Appetizers come out quick and I love the bacon flavored bread. Overall if I have the money, I will dine here everyday. You can't go wrong with Providence."

  • "The service was professional, informed and entertaining when appropriate. The wait staff knew how to guide us through our long dinner and allow us to have the experience we wanted. The variety of flavors and level of creativity on the Chef's menu were fantastic. The ambience was formal but never stuffy. I suppose I would prefer less obvious effort when the wait staff steps out of the way to allow you to pass when walking around the restaurant ... but whatever. I will definitely return and tell all my friends about our experience. Thank you, Providence! P.S. The Libre cocktail was amazing."

  • "I have not had such an epic meal since my trip to the French Laundry. Impeccable presentation, flavors, and cuisine. Seafood combinations are presented in a unique style that will challenge your tastebuds, but also open up a whole new world of flavors for your palate. It is a rare find when a restaurant such as Providence goes beyond the core concept of fresh seafood."

  • "The food was outstanding. It is expensive but would be very good for a special occasion. The high ceilings and soft wall decor makes it a nice and on the quieter side. A table of six could easily hear each other. Enjoy!"

  • "Went here last night to celebrate my wife's birthday. We had a show to go to right after dinner and were running late to our reservation. Even though we arrived a half hour late (LA traffic!), they were very accommodating. The waiter suggested a fast course on the menu which worked out really well. The chef must be a food magician - so many ingredients came together in every course (there were many small ones) with incredible flavor. The dessert was also excellent. To celebrate my wife's birthday, they created a special menu for her with her name printed on it. They packed it for us as a souvenir. The host also gave us an extra special dessert in a box to snack on at our show. We will come back for the full experience!"

  • "There is no question this is one of the top restaurants in LA and if you eat at Providence once you will easily understand why; the food, service and atmosphere is exemplary. Don't miss their lunch on Friday, it is a special treat and the restaurant looks beautiful in the daylight. What an extraordinary place!"

  • "We took our adult son, who had never dined at Providence. He was thoroughly impressed with the presentation and the quality of the food, as were we. We have moved this restaurant into the top three of all the places we have dined at, including many highly rated restaurants in Europe. It is pricey, so be prepared to spend a good deal. Eat slowly and appreciate the artistry."

  • "4th visit to Providence New prix fixe not our favorite- chose 9 course of which my wife only would eat 3 due to raw seafood- after 4th course server lets us know she could have substituted other choices."

  • "4.5 stars for food. I like all the amuse bouche before the dinner. We had the nine course market tasting menu and each one of them feature excellent taste and creativity. Just looking at the dish appearance is already very satisfying. While me and gf both ordered the bass as the entree (choice of duck, wagyu and bass), the skin of my bass was burn and left with a lot char, thus bitter taste, I had to scrap off the burnt skin ... this shouldn't happen at a highly regarded michellin restaurant. Service is as good as it can get. They are willing to accommodate our request of changing to another dessert course. The japanese cheesecake is fantastic!"

  • "I think time has passed or is passing this place by. Seems old the minute you walk in. We were seated in an outdoor summer patio covered over for winter. There was a very warm heat lamp over our table. The noise from the street seemed very nearby and loud. The Prix fixed menu was not apparent to us when "researching" this place. it is expensive. You are served by a variety of people which makes the meal seem disconnected. One server was immediately defensive about a question and gave a curt "we want to be be happy what do you want?"and did switch a couple of menu options for us. We wanted local vs something from Maryland or Maine Funny it is known for seafood but two of the three big portion choices were meat duck and steak"

  • "My all time fave place! Consistently great food and great presentation. So many times these places fail to deliver on taste as they execute on the presentation. Providence hits it on both end! Highly recommended."

  • "The transition from New York to LA hasn't been easy. Michelin left here in 2009. That means there's only such thing as a former Michelin Star restaurant in LA. Providence had two, and it deserves them still, if not another. My meal there was better than many a Michelin Star restaurant in New York. Still, Providence doesn't slouch like a bitter general that's been stripped of its medals. It stands patriotically, with one hand in a salute, and the other with a prawn cutter. With prize-worthy ingredients like this, one would imagine bold, in-your-face flavors, and waiters chanting "USA, USA!" Instead, Providence is remarkably subtle, mature, and elegant. I will be going again, and again."

  • "I will try to write this review without gushing too many superlatives, but here is a classy, top notch dining experience that is virtually perfect in every way! The service, from the maître de to the water boy, is discreet, attentive, and knowledgeable. The sommelier is first rate, the wines excellent, the cocktails creative and skillfully made. Choose from four different tasting menus, featuring original and incredibly delicious choices served in a timely and well paced sequence. Crispy salmon skin and smoked salmon dip, wagyu beef perfectly prepared, delicate scallop tacos, big eye tuna sashimi, risotto w fresh truffles sliced at our table, and more - all dramatically presented and outrageously good. Very expensive, but worth every penny!"

  • "We had the Chef's tasting menu: three hours of one course topping the next. From the scallop-chorizo amuse, to the waygu beef (the best beef dish I have ever had), to the inventive desserts, the food was both creative and delicious. Service is crisp, but friendly. The meal will set you back, but think of it as great tickets to a phenomenal concert: the price is worth the experience. If you've been looking for an LA restaurant that can compete with the best of NY and SF, look no further than Providence."

  • "My wife and I consider ourselves sophisticated diners since we both are world travelers and don't mind paying for exquisite food, service and ambience. With that said, we were extremely disappointed with PROVIDENCE. The decor was tired and worn out. The chairs were about as comfortable as the airport shuttle bus seats. The service was mediocre. And last but not least, the food was a poor attempt at artistic cuisine. The presentation was attractive but it stopped there. The taste and composition was either bland or confusing, depending on which course we were experiencing. The wine/food pairing would end up in a divorce court if they were a marriage. My husband even asked to substitute a few of wines because of the incapatibility."

  • "The fact that every one at the table has to eat the same prefixe menu is uncomfortable and limiting My wife can only manage at the most a 4 course meal and I was told thai would have to do so also. Not good for this caliber of restaurant I am sure they can ftnd a way to overcome that"

  • "Loved our experience at Providence. Each item on the prix-fixe meal was delightful and bursting with surprises as the delicious morsels hit your mouth. I have referred to our experience as a "melange of flavors". Simply wonderful. Superlatives do not do justice to the experience. A food connoiseur's delight."

  • "This place was amazing at lunch. We will definitely be back for dinner. The sashimi scallop played with palate. The amuse Bouche was outstanding especially the fried salmon skin with the salmon roe was hand."

  • "Overall: We had very high expectations coming to this place. The food did not disappoint: absolutely exceptional--flavors, composition, quality, presentation--worth every penny of the $800 we spent. However, we felt the ambience and service were overrated. Food: Valentine’s Day weekend 9 course prix fixe: portions were perfect, balanced. Impossible to leave food on the plate. Ambience: Nothing that great and street noise was a problem. Service: Generally inconsistent. We were greeted and seated immediately; but then we waited for menus. Our waiter misquoted two dishes; our primary sommelier seemed pained to tell us about our $300 wine pairing. And, lastly, we waited 10+ minutes after coffee for the check. We expected more."

  • "Great modernist cuisine. Fish like you've never had it prepared before. The pasta chiatarra with black truffles and cheese course were great additions. Service was most unobtrusive. One of top restaurants in California."
