Diner Reviews
  • "I have been to Provence many times and it never disappoints. This time, their April seafood menu was featured and we enjoyed outstanding house-smoked sturgeon, grilled steelhead, and halibut. Service is always impeccable."

  • "Wait staff was very pleasant, but service was absolutely terrible. waited nearly 30 minutes just to get our coffee - twice. Asked the waitress if they were short staffed and were told no, just weren't expecting everyone to show up all at once. Sunday Brunch? That's usually a busy time, isn't it?"

  • "We have dined at this restaurant many times over the years. On this occasion, although the food was very good, the service was extremely disappointing, lacking the finesse of a fine dining establishment. The dishes were plonked down in front of us without any explanation and the waitress would have been better working in a fast food joint where there is little customer interaction. We will sadly not be returning for a long time."

  • "Great food, wine and company, it was the trifecta for a super night. The service is never short of exemplary, and the food always delicious. I don't know why we don't go more often!"

  • "As usual great ravioli served by friendly, professional staff. Great to be consistent."

  • "My daughter and I, and friends who have recently travelled in France, were drawn to your restaurant, by a walk by menu viewing, a subsequent on line search, and a hope that the offer of genuine Provencal 'Cuisine' would actually be possible. We were not disappointed. We had the Seafood and Meat Platters, as much food for four people as was more than adequate, and the flavours transported me to a warmer more fragrant clime. Our friends say they have found a new go to spot in Vancouver that they will recommend to their most discerning friends in Abbotsford. Until we meet again my friends... (we had some great Irish moments in Vancouver this trip as well) May the sun shine warm upon your faces(s)... Thanks for the many gluten free options."

  • "The Arctic Char special of the evening was very nice. Crispy skin which I love on a bed of tasty peas. The three others at the table all agreed that the fish soup was full of flavour but a bit too salty. The roast chicken and mushroom ravioli were much liked. We didn't have our favourite server who is always so cheerful and efficient -- she's wonderful. We had the other lady who was fine though a bit rough."

  • "I went to this place for my date's birthday. It is definitely a place to go with date. I brought the cake myself and the server cut it for us and decorate the plate as well!"

  • "we often go for lunch and have always received excellent service and food. We were there on Valentine's day and the service was not up to its usual standard. Our server, although pleasant was not attentive at all. She was there to take our order, and we didn't see her again, till she provided us with the bill. I know it was Valentine's and it was busy, but we really felt we were neglected. After all, it was a special occasion, and we should have been provided with good service!!"

  • "We enjoyed our meal very much even though it was full and we were seating near the kitchen. What we didn't appreciate was the choice of music. Very annoying and distracting."

  • "This was my first visit to Provence Mediterranean Grill. My mom has always raved about it so I checked it out during Dine Out Vancouver. The clam bisque was positively delicious! The scallops and sable fish melt in your mouth. The clafoutis is also not to be missed. We were very well taking care of by our prompt, helpful, and friendly server. I cannot wait to go back."

  • "I found out about Provence from dineout Vancouver; the dineout menu was one of the most appealing. Right when my bf and I got to the restaurant we admired the look of the restaurant, very elegant. Then we were greeted by a very friendly hostess and were seated right away thanks to using OpenTable. We were pleasantly surprised by the addition of one more entree choice for the dineout menu. Overall the appys, entrees and dessert were delicious; seasoned to perfection. Only complaint is that some of my potatoes were not cooked as much as I normally like and so they were a bit too chalky in texture. In the end I had a fun, romantic and delicious dinner. Have told friends and family about Provence, will be back for future dinners! !"

  • "I'm so glad this restaurant was recommended to us - the Sablefish and Scallop entrée was to die for!!! Melt in your mouth delicious. The service was terrific and will visit this restaurant again in the future."

  • "Great staff and service but meal was slightly disappointing. We had the sablefish and tenderloin for our main course and we were disappointed in those two components. We liked the accompaniments but found the quality and flavour in the proteins lacking. We understand that Dine Out is not a true representation of the restaurant but I'm not sure we would take the chance to spend more to know for sure. More positives than negatives overall but, unfortunately, the beef and fish were big enough misses to leave a lasting impression."

  • "We chose the $38 Dine Out Vancouver menu which included excellent appetizer, entre, and dessert selections. The portions were generous and exquisitely prepared. The sable fish and prawns entre melted in your mouth and the pear torte was a smooth and tasty way to finish. All in all, a great meal at a very reasonable price. Kudos to the chef and servers."

  • "Went here with my best friend on a Monday night for dine out. The location is a bit far as I'm coming from Burnaby but lots of free parking around the area. Our server, Julia was very friendly and attentive, she automatically prepared extra plates for us since she can tell that we were gonna share our meal and changed cutlery in between courses. The food was a little bit salty but definitely very flavourful and tasty! Would definitely recommend this place for a date night or just a place to chill with girlfriends."

  • "I went there with two friends, we enjoy the food , and the service is excellent, we want to try different variety of food, so that we order different dishes from appetizer to desert, the waitress Judy was serving us patiently, and brought us extra plates, and clear up the table efficiently. After each course. Actually the restaurant is quite far away from home, but we feel it is worth going there."

  • "I have dined at this restaurant many times before and always found it dependable. It did not disappoint on this occasion either. Food and wine were of consistently high standard and the waiting unobtrusive. The atmosphere is pleasant without being special. Highly recommended, especially for anyone living on the west side who does not want the hassle of going to the Downtown (car-parking is free round the corner here, for example)."

  • "Provence is an excellent neighbourhood restaurant. Its menu and food quality are exceptional, offering Provencal food as well as superb local food, prepared and presented beautifully. The owners' standards are high and have remained so over the years Provence has been part of the neighbourhood. Service is friendly and attentive. Provence is always my choice when I'm in Point Grey Village."

  • "Had the appetizer platter and the roast lamb loin. The latter was very well cooked but was a little salty for my taste. However I am used to very lighted salted food. Dining companions felt that the meat platter, while presenting a good supply of food, was a little boring and could have used more seasoning. Overall the food was very good and service attentive."

  • "Having dined here often,we found the food and service to be excellent -- everything running smoothly that night. The bouillbase was perfectly prepared. The new Sunday menu is a positive initiative."

  • "The food here is well prepared and served, but because I have 1. kids and 2. they have gluten-free diets, I am going to focus on that. It is hard to find a restaurant that has such a positive attitude to special diets. The meals were "altered" where necessary to accommodate the gluten free aspect. The kids were able to eat yummy meals and enjoy their visit. There was also a clean booster seat provided for the youngest (on request). This restaurant also has plenty for the vegetarian, and I can recommend the appetizers (my favorite is the marinated mushrooms, but the squid and artichokes are also delicious!)."

  • "New Years Eve dinner - warmly greeted & seated prompty at window as requested. Set NYE menu, limited choices. Scallops done 3 ways starter was beautifully cooked. Warm bread basket - nice. Sable fish in balsamic on prawn risotto was ok - too rich a combination, dessert platter of mini lemon tart, choco cake, cheesecake & pistachio ice cream on puff pastry was decadent with very good black coffee. $60/PP good value but wil not return as room cramped and noisy."

  • "It's a small room with a relaxed ambience - the absence of loud music is a plus. The menu has lots of seafood choices which is great as we love seafood. Besides the seafood dishes, which are always well-cooked (i.e. not overcooked), the mushroom ravioli is also delicious. Service is friendly, quite efficient and not intrusive. A great choice for mother's/father's day brunch or birthday lunch, or just anytime treat-yourself lunch."

  • "We have been here many times before. The appetizers were as usual outstanding! I had the ratatouille with the vegetable platter. The eggplant was a bit undercooked and the dish had too much cooked tomato. The panisse was wonderful and the salad well seasoned. My daughter had the risotto which, at her request, was vegan-no butter or cream. As a result the chef added extra truffle oil, but it still lost richness and flavour. My cousin had the Arctic char which was just divine! For dessert we shared the clafouti and sorbets, all delicious. All things considered an enjoyable meal!"

  • "We went to celebrate a 60th birthday. There were five of us and each of us enjoyed our meal tremendously. Antipasti to start is the best! Love the selection. And finished it off with a lemon tart. yum."

  • "Provence on 10th is one of our favorite restaurants. Food is excellent. Service is normally good but was quite slow that night because the restaurant was packed. After we got sat & given some water, we didn't see our waiter again till we noticed it has been 15 min since we last saw him. Had to keep waving at him to order things. However, we still had a delicious dinner and nice bottle of wine. Always a nice treat to go here even when busy!"

  • "i was surprised that for a lunch item : vegetable risotto , already priced at $17.00 that in fine print an additional $7.00 was expected to include a bit of shelfish"

  • "I took my parents from the UK for dinne, food was very good. The fish choice was extensive and the portions just right, not too big or small. Older clientele as this is Point Grey! We were the youngest people there. Overall a great experience and would recommend for family get togethers."

  • "Everything was just right. From antipasti to desert, everything was well done and well presented. The portions were just right, not too big and not too small. The pasta sauce was full bodied and not oily at all. The menu is diversified and will take me a few trips to try all the items. Will certainly be there again. Bravo."

  • "I've been to Provence often over the last 15 years, but this week's lunch was the best meal I've had there yet. Superbly interesting scallops as a starter and simply perfect braised short ribs and grilled vegetables as a main. (The only quibble was that the pinot noir selection was limited to Louis Latour, and surely we can do better out of the Okanagan, let alone Oregon!) The service was quietly impeccable, as always, and the room bright and cheerful. Just a delight!"
