A word from Provence - Carrboro
Provence has seen only few changes over the last 12 years. And since the change of ownership in 2012 by Chef Baptist Knaven and his business partner Jerry King, you’ll still find all of your classic favorites such as the beautiful Trout Provencal and Whole Fish baked in Rock Salt, as well as the Onion Soup and Lobster Bisque on the menu.
Chef Baptist came to the United States in 2003 and has earned his accolades in the U.S. at his very successful Mediterranean restaurant “Café Zito” on the North Carolina coast, until he moved to the Triangle and started working at Provence. Working with Felix Roux, a Provence, France native, gave him the edge in classic French cuisine and that is what his menu is based on.
Enjoy a casual dining atmosphere, inside or out-, with an impressive French and international wine selection. Enjoy our great seasonal salads and entrées, and choose from our all in-house made desserts like Pain Perdu and Profiterole.
Bon Appétit!

Diner Reviews
  • "Last minute reservation and wanted to try something new. Food was great! Nice wine list. Would love to try their wine pairing dinner next time. Will dine there again."

  • "We had a special occasion lunch to plan and had been introduced to Provence on a Food Tour. Very glad we selected Provence. Everything we had was good, freshly made, and the chocolate-orange torte was (gluten free) was out of this world. We were able to sit and talk for a long time without feeling rushed. Wonderful experience. We did not make use of their wine list, but it appears to be extensive."

  • "I have passed the restaurant many times and had no idea from the outside how good it was inside for food, atmosphere and service."

  • "Been to Provence three times now and have had nothing but great food and great experiences each time. The Mediterranean Sea Bass was one of the best I have had. Service was also fantastic and the atmosphere is quaint."

  • "Excellent and interesting menu, excellent service, very pleasant dinner for our family of four."

  • "We go to Provence 3-4 times a year usually on a special occasion. This time was our wedding anniversary. We had the restaurant specialty - whole fish (sea bass I believe) baked in salt (for 2). The fish was fileted at the table and served. The fish was incredibly tender/fleshy and served with a homemade hollandaise and rice pilaf plus vegetables. Dessert were a snowball sized profiteroles for each of us. Service was attentive. I add that we have tried most of the dishes and can recommend them all. Cheers."

  • "Had a lovely crepe and glass of white at La Provence earlier this week. Very nice ambiance, great service and most importantly the food was true to it's name. The bread was crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle. Crepe was prepared properly and service was non invasive. Wine list was extensive. Looking forward to going back soon."

  • "A nice, small restaurant with a "family owned" feel. The service was outstanding and they never let my coffee cup or water glass get empty. The portions are on the small side, but prices are reasonable. Wide selection on the Sunday brunch menu."

  • "My wife and I had a great date night out here. The food was absolutely spectacular and the service was impeccable. I highly recommend this place."

  • "I've always been a fan of French cuisine and I was not disappointed with Provence. Our second time there and this time we brought three others who also enjoyed their visit. We'll be back yet again."

  • "Though the menu is small, this restaurant had AMAZING food. And the desert is great. The service is very friendly and professional."

  • "Romantic atmosephere, great food. Very loud at dinnertime."
    Dined on 10/4/2014
  • "The previous owners of this restaurant were French and knew how to prepare and serve a good French meal - great preparation, measured presentation, modest portions, perfect course timing. The new management does not understand this. The food is often the same dishes as before, but it is not prepared as well, seasoned as carefully, and is generally less tasty. Plus, the helpings are American Big Mac quantity rather than proportional to a meal of stages and courses. Too bad. Provence used to be a special place to eat. Now is is a so-so restaurant with no real distinction. In the Chapel Hill market it is low second tier. I do not plan to return."

  • "Immensely enjoyed dinner. Found greeting a bit lukewarm especially when we had to change our seating arrangements. We could have been treated more graciously. Server very good. Fish cooked perfectly."

  • "Really enjoyed our dinner there, outside seating was lovely and food was great, including the lobster soup and snails for appetizer, and trout and seafood of the day quartet. Indoor seating looked cute too. Only problem was it took forever to get our check, as the credit card machine was not working properly; management was very apologetic, hopefully will not be a problem in the future."

  • "the outdoor patio with water fountain and comfy dining chairs was the perfect setting for my sisters birthday. the food was okay, a bit overpriced, wine also, so not a place i'd go on a regular basis. the staff was not overly friendly but professional enough."

  • "We were very pleased with the rack of lamb and the duck. Both were prepared perfectly and the sides were delicious. The staff was very attentive and we had a lovely dinner experience on the outdoor patio."

  • "The best dining experience in the Triangle. It is a scrumptious piece of Europe right in our own backyards. Each dish is thoughtfully planned, prepared to perfection, and served by an attentive and caring staff. Their menu is diverse and worth your review. I have been there many times and never tire of trying something new, in addition to repeating favorites. No matter what you select, you can't go wrong at Provence."

  • "This is a charming french restaraunt! We sat inside but I wished we had known about the great outdoor, front yard seating. WE will have to go back! The bunch has an excellent menu. We all enjoyed our meals. The coffee was a very good French Roast and the french baquette and butter were perfect. WE will definitely return!"

  • "Provence has been well known in the area for several years. It is located in a quaint yellow house with outside dining in the yard. The dining room is not expansive so the noise level is low. There are also four dining tables in the bar. I would not call it classic French food but there is a French flair and many French wines. We had a wonderfully attentive waiter who was able to explain all of the menu items in detail"
