Provence - CarrboroExcellentLots of choices in Chapel Hill/Carrboro and I say this one's the best5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat outside neighborhood gemWe really like Provence for the authentic French menu and neigborhood feel. While the interior decor is not the most notable or romantic it is one of the few restaurants where outside dining in nice weather is unparalleled. Highly recommend for that Provence French feel.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMC'est magnifique! This was a return visit for my fiancée and I, though it was the first time we ate outside. The food, as always, was delicious - though I think this was the best we've ever had here. And the new outside dining area is wonderful right now: quiet (not much traffic), comfortable (my fiancée wants us to buy the same furniture for our deck), and well-designed. The service was a *bit* slow, but the servers were friendly, helpful, smiling, and glad to help.
In all, a place we'll definitely return to. Merci, Baptiste! We look forward to returning!
(Baptiste is the chef)5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMMother's DayVery nice brunch menus and very reasonable. Nice day5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMOur first vivit to ProvenceOur first vivit to Provence was great. Service was excellent. Everyhtning from appetizer to dessert was well-prepared and timely. We'll be back.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Best of All Possible WorldsRetaining favorite dishes established by original owner & Chef Felix Roux, but adding a soupcon of fresh ideas and treatments, new owner/Chef Baptist Knaven infuses all that was good about the former Provence with renewed energy. This was our first visit since the changeover & it was wonderful. We would have been dismayed not to find our favorite appetizer available (escargot baked in roquefort), but were not disappointed. We chose additional appetizers & salad in lieu of a heavier second course. Seared sea scallops on an flavorful bed of flagolet w/bacon was heavenly & the mussels mariniere were perfect too. A lackluster orange creme brulee was the only slight disappointment. Now that they do brunch as well, we'll be back soon!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMOur waiter was in the TwilightOur waiter was in the Twilight Zone: mindless. He tried to spoil our evening, but failed. I regret the generous tip I left him; it should all have gone to the rest of the support staff who did a very credible job.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMDelightful and Delicious, as alwaysProvence never disappoints ! From Starters through to Entrees everything was perfect ! Timing (on the servers part) couldn't have been better. Presentation was beautiful ! We'll be back.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMIf you can stand the noiseIf you can stand the noise indoors it is a great place for any meal. If you want champagne for brunch, keep in mind on Sundays no liquor until noon.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a wonderful SundayWe had a wonderful Sunday brunch at Provence with some friends from out of town who also loved it. I had only been there for dinner before and loved it.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMTucked away on Weaver St.Tucked away on Weaver St. in a charming little old house, Provence is dishing out delicious cuisine with exquisite service.
Went to Provence for a Saturday dinner, with an early reservation - we had the main dining room to ourselves until about 6pm. The dining room is light and airy with little decorations, but tastefully decorated. Meals start out with hot, fresh bread with an olive oil and olive spread, served on a silver platter. Also complimentary was duck rillettes served with a slice of crepe.
Don't miss their onion gratinee which was chocked full of onion, delicious broth and topped with bread and perfectly broiled cheese. Their soup du jour - roasted red pepper was equally delicious. I tried their Sole Meunière entree: flound4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMProvence is one of our favoriteProvence is one of our favorite restaurants. The ambience, service and food are always of high standard. The restaurant is in a large house so it has a cozy feel. The menu, although small, is of high quality food. My wife started with scallops followed by duck breast; I started with escargot followed by rack of lamb. All were prepared and presented perfectly. My wife had a bread pudding desert which she loved. The wine list is not overly extensive but is populated by good quality European wines, primarily French. There is also the possibility to eat outside which is pleasant. The evening is of good value for the money.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMNew owner and old great standardGreat to see the transition in ownership not change hardly a thing.....excellent fish, escargot, salad, and great wines!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMDisappointedThis was the third or fourth time we have been to Provence for dinner--but the first in at least five years. Overall, the food was good--in particular the bread and pate. The entrees, however, were overcooked, and in general the food did not have the "freshness" associated with the price level. The desert was tasty, but seemed like it had just been pulled from a refrigerator. There are at least three better restaurants in the area at the same price level, and three better French bistros with better food and lower prices. A suggestion would be to shorten the menu and focus on fresh foods better prepared.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is a messade for OpenThis is a messade for Open Table. You ask for a review but there are no points for dining at Provence. The brunch is outstanding!3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was excellent. TheThe food was excellent. The weakest part of the meal, however was the dessert. Next time I'll just have my own appetizer rather than splitting one with my partner-and forego the dessert.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMA gemThe dover sole and trout dishes were two of the best fish dishes we have ever experienced. The service was attentive but not intrusive. The chef delivered our desserts and spoke to us. A very nice touch. The entire experience was truly outstanding. Provence remains one of our very favorite restaurants.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMTry the sole!I loved this restaurant! I have a few gripes, all relatively minor. The menu was very small and I did not understand the addition of the broccolini. However, these were vastly outweighed by the positives. The small appetizer of a butternut squash/potato soup was fantastic (especially to a person who often despises soup) and the sole was amazing. I would recommend this to anyone who loves either steak or seafood!3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMProvence is amazing in everyProvence is amazing in every way. We love the service as much as the food. Been going there for for years and have never been disappointed in any way.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMA friend and I reconnectedA friend and I reconnected over dinner at Provence. Our three-hour catchup on each other's lives went too fast ---- food was outstanding, conversation great, a perfect evening in all.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMOur table for 2 was closeOur table for 2 was close to the AC vent and while I would love another meal at Provence, I would not sit in that same spot again.
Food was delicious. I had the salmon which was no better than mine at home, my husband had the rack of lamb which was wonderful. Wine list was good; dessert of chocolate mousse was light and tasty.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperbe!Provence has yet to disappoint over numerous visits. The chef is inventive, & the results are all exquisite delicious. Fish is a particular speciality, & every variety I've had has been prepared creatively, scrupulously, & artfully. The appetizers, desserts, & the wine all merit recognition as well. It's like a little visit to France. Can't wait to try brunch!3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMJ'aime la ProvenceLOVE PROVENCE. Excellent restaurant for an experience of french fine dining. Escargot awesome and main course just melts in your mouth. Service excellent. This is our favorite place to go for special occasions.2/14/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Valentine's dinner.Excellent Valentine's dinner. The special cocktail (gin fizz) was terrific, as was the food and service. The trout was the best I've ever had.2/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
