A word from Prospect
Prospect is a more casual dining hall from the team behind San Francisco's acclaimed Boulevard. Partners Nancy Oakes (James Beard award-winning chef/owner of Boulevard), Pam Mazzola and Kathy King, have created a convivial venue that pays tribute to contemporary American cuisine. Whether it's a cocktail and a bite at the bar, a casual meal at the communal table, or a relaxed lunch or dinner in the main dining room, guest can enjoy the full menu and exceptional service. Designed by Brand + Allen Architects, the loft-like space is warmed by earth tones, natural fibers, and reclaimed wood, while unique elements like artisan-crafted wrought iron chandeliers add distinctive character to the impressive dimensions. A separate dining room is available for private events.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "We went to Prospect to celebrate my Birthday. Nice atmosphere, very pretty restaurant. Food was delicious, and the manager sent over a Birthday dessert for me. But the best part of the evening was our server Kevin. He was outstanding! One of my favorite servers of all time and we eat out often. He was attentive, made suggestions, super friendly and there whe we needed him, but not overly so. It was just a great overall experience."

  • "Everything was wonderful... artistic food, portion size was perfect... and we shared one of the desserts! The peach sundae was SUBLIME! The event was pricey... with wine, our check came out to $150/person....normal for SF restuarants. The experience was worth it! We are so lucky to have Boulevard AND Prospect in our neighborhood!! Once small caveat... our 6:15pm reservation included the sun flooding through the west windows. Even with a pull-down shade, my guests were constantly adjusting themselves as the sun set. We are lucky to have sunshine on Rincon Hill.... I just didn't want it to be the main focus of our dinner conversation... :)"

  • "I have been at Prospect several times for lunch with a group of people from work. The food is great. I then went to dinner with my wife and there was a large group of young people at the bar that were being very loud. I recommend this place for lunch since its quiet."

  • "We are twice as old as most customers at Prospect; yet, that was a plus in our minds. It was such a amicable environment and great seeing so many young people enjoying a classy restaurant. Food & service was fantastic! Best meal, drinks, dessert and environment for us. We were impressed with every aspect of Prospect and will return again for another fantastic evening."

  • "The small portions are overpriced, but the food is good."

  • "This was my second lunch visit to Prospect and it was great again! The decor is lovely, the food is fabulous (I wanted to try everything on the menu but settled on the Maryland soft shell crab BLT - yum!), the service is friendly and professional. I look forward to more lunches and I want to try dinner."

  • "Enjoyed our meal at Prospect. I arrived early and had a glass of wine at the bar. The happy hour wines are nice; good wines and a good price. We had an early meal and enjoyed the quieter dining portion of the establishment. The entrees were halibut and steak for us. Both were excellent. We'd definitely go back for either happy hour or dinner. And, since it's in the neighborhood, I'm sure we will."

  • "From start to finish, we were pleased! The cocktails were a great start, enjoyed appetizers, they had a nice selection for entrees which were on the petite side. I am not a large eater, so it was fine for me, however think most men would appreciate a larger portion. Dessert with pound cake and fruit was a great end to a very enjoyable dinner. Would return just for the cocktail, (Alpine trek) and dessert."

  • "Great experience at a beautiful restaurant. We ordered everythign recommended by our server and it was fantastic!"

  • "My wife and I had our wedding rehearsal dinner at Prospect 2 years ago, and the food and service were phenomenal. We decided to go back there last week to celebrate our anniversary. This time; however, the experience was not as great. We both ordered the strip steak, which was cooked perfectly, but it was extremely gristly. We both commented that this is is the type if steak you get at Ponderosa or Sizzler back when we were kids and not what we expect from such a trendy place. It was $45 and the most expensive entree on the menu, and we expected a much better quality of steak. Our server was very attentive and friendly. We would definitely go back but hope that this slip is not a permanent spiral and only a fluke."

  • "Our group was 7 women for my daughter's 21st birthday celebration. Very classy. Perfect signature cocktails to choose from and a great wine list. Had a wonderful Bordeaux with dinner. Each of us ordered different entrees and all were delicious. Service was great including the wine staff. Our choice for Prospect (from the Chron 100 list) was a shot in the dark and we were very pleased with that decision."

  • "We had dinner at Prospect for our Anniversary. The service was great, loved the NY Strip and the Quail (not something I would normally order) was amazing. Extensive wine list. We brought our own bottle too and they waived the $25 corkage if you buy a bottle. We will be back, but only for special occasions. With the prices, this is not an ever day kind of place for us. Overall a lovely evening."

  • "Excellent service and food, reasonable prices for the quality of each. But to say the noise level is 'energetic' is to put it mildly. Ask for a table far back from the bar area and hope for the best. It'll be worth it."

  • "Service was good, excellent wine list, very knowledgable wine steward, food was prepared well and very tasty, a little loud but didn't bother us,"

  • "Food was good. Had the hamburger which was good but not memorable. The tuna tartare was very good. Would have that again. Service could be friendlier."

  • "I heard about Prospect from friends who liked it so I wanted to try it out for myself. When my very good friend from LA was in town for a conference, my husband & I took her and another friend. It was fabulous!! We are all foodies and loved every dish we ordered. Also, the service is truly stellar. Never feeling rushed and just the right amount "checking in"! Our dining experience began with the soft shell crab, Kobe beef tartare and seared sea scallops. Not only were they all tasty but the presentation beautiful. For entrees we had the king salmon, halibut and the Kobe beef bavette. Again, all very well prepared and so full of flavor. We highly recommend Prospect and will be returning again for another special occasion. Awesome!!"

  • "We came with a group to celebrate a friend's 50th, and had a wonderful time. The wine list was quite pricey, but we enjoyed the wine immensely. Our servers were prompt and attentive and the entire staff was lovely."

  • "Attentive but not overbearing service. Diverse menu but not too long. Exceptional wine list. Willing to do vegan upon request but the option did not sound very gourmet so went with fish which was terrific. Only suggestion would be to have a really good vegan option."

  • "Enjoyed my cold Shrimp salad with avocado slices and asparagus. The dressing was delicious. The portion was small, but just right for me. The service was excellent. It didn't seem crowded at lunch at all."

  • "The food is always good here. My favorite Financial District restaurant."
    Dined on 4/30/2014
  • "Decided to eat salads and small plates and forgo the entrees, all very good. Dessert was meh (not a lot of flavor and what flavors existed were imbalanced) and the noise level was a bit too energetic; both brought our rating down from four starts to three."

  • "Very classy establishment. Service is impeccable, friendly genuinely so. Food is excellent. Ambiance is inviting. Love the place"

  • "Excellent food, service. Lovely interiors. Terrific wine list. All in all a great place to dine"

  • "Waiter: arrogant. Food: lukewarm; unimaginatively prepared. Physical environment: very good. Overall: None of the four of us would ever go back. Very disappointing."

  • "The ingredients were all so fresh and of the highest quality. I loved the Kobe bavette and my boyfriend got the duck, which was flavorful and well-balanced with kale on the side. We also enjoyed the ravioli with grilled octopus and for dessert, the donuts. The service was excellent, attentative, but not crowding us, and the decor is modern and sleek. On a Friday night, you might end up sitting next to a roudy bunch, and that was a drawback."

  • "We enjoyed our dinner at Prospect last Saturday night. All of the food was delicious except for a ravioli with a vinaigrette sauce. The sauce was a bit acidic. The atmosphere was buzzing with energy. We were able to talk though without having to shout. There isn't much character to the restaurant. We would definitely go back another time. We didn't try any of the desserts. Were glad that they served the same Acme bread that Boulevard serves."

  • "The dishes were well prepared but had no soul. The ingredients were solid but lacked integration."

  • "Everything here was very good. A little pricey as apps are almost as uch as entrees. Great atmosphere, service very attentive, and food was very good."

  • "The food was good, portion sizes were perfect, and the menu was not too overwhelming. The desserts were especially awesome and I wish I saved room for more dessert! The service staff were attentive, but disappeared at times."

  • "Took a few of my customers here for lunch. it was a treat for all - food was great, service was excellent, and it was quiet enough for us to have a business conversation. My only beef is with the booths. They are big, large enough for 6 people, but putting 6 folks in a booth is a tough one for conversation. The middle person is always leaning back so the two folks on the end can see and speak..."
