Prospect is a more casual dining hall from the team behind San Francisco's acclaimed Boulevard. Partners Nancy Oakes (James Beard award-winning chef/owner of Boulevard), Pam Mazzola and Kathy King, have created a convivial venue that pays tribute to contemporary American cuisine. Whether it's a cocktail and a bite at the bar, a casual meal at the communal table, or a relaxed lunch or dinner in the main dining room, guest can enjoy the full menu and exceptional service. Designed by Brand + Allen Architects, the loft-like space is warmed by earth tones, natural fibers, and reclaimed wood, while unique elements like artisan-crafted wrought iron chandeliers add distinctive character to the impressive dimensions.   • "The ingredients were all so fresh and of the highest quality. I loved the Kobe bavette and my boyfriend got the duck, which was flavorful and well-balanced with kale on the side. We also enjoyed the ravioli with grilled octopus and for dessert, the donuts. The service was excellent, attentative, but not crowding us, and the decor is modern and sleek. On a Friday night, you might end up sitting next to a roudy bunch, and that was a drawback."

  • "We enjoyed our dinner at Prospect last Saturday night. All of the food was delicious except for a ravioli with a vinaigrette sauce. The sauce was a bit acidic. The atmosphere was buzzing with energy. We were able to talk though without having to shout. There isn't much character to the restaurant. We would definitely go back another time. We didn't try any of the desserts. Were glad that they served the same Acme bread that Boulevard serves."

My only beef is with the booths. They are big, large enough for 6 people, but putting 6 folks in a booth is a tough one for conversation. The middle person is always leaning back so the two folks on the end can see and speak..."

In between no one filled waters, offered a refill on the coffee, checked /or poured the wine. Saw our server at entree and the check , I could have stayed home and had better service."

  • "had dinner with my mother while she was in town and had an early birthday celebration for her. the restaurant was an excellent choice; the food was superb- we shared the kobe beef tartare starter and it was the best I've ever had; I had roasted duck breast and my mom had petrole sol as entree's; both were cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. The wine list was extensive without being overly pricey and offering several options for each varietal. our server was very knowledgeable and attentive without being overbearing. everything was lovely; a great friday night dinner!"

Basically, there were only mini-entrees and frankly everyone digging in with their individual forks is not always appropriate in a business dinner when you may not have even met the individual you are dining with before. Some individual share plates would be a welcome addition to the menu. Sommelier was very nice but didn't really help me discern between my 2 wine choices and my expensive bottle wasn't optimal. I've had better $10 bottles."

I had the warm seafood salad that was very good, one friend had the duck sausage and it was delicious, another had the petrale that was excellent and the fourth had mushroom soup and tuna tartar. Everything was wonderful. Pamela graciously brought us the deviled egg appetizer that she saw us "eying" at another table."

  • "Had dinner on a Sunday and the dining room was sparsely filled, with a muted atmosphere. Despite the empty room, tables were sat on top of each other, unless you were in a booth. Service was decent, although our waiter was fairly new to the restaurant and struggled a bit with recommendations. Appetizers of quail, and abalone (cuttlefish was a little chewy) were decent but not memorable. The entrees were were the stars as the lamb, bavette, and duck dishes were delicious...perfectly cooked, nicely presented, and flavors well paired. Would go back and just have a salad versus the other appetizer options...but definitely for the entrees. Desserts were very good as well (marquise, hoho, popcorn) and a nice way to end an overall very good meal."

  • "had been here several times before under a previous chef. thought it was good-very good before. now think its great. plan to go back more frequently. service is very good and helpful to. we pretty much stuck to waiter suggestions which proved very successful. i had duck person with me had bavette and we had abalone app. abalone was a little chewy but dish was very good overall. mains were fantastic. both perfectly cooked. dessert of citrus and tea something was only ok, but i'm usually disappointed in desserts. although ice cream sandwiches were great. one of the better places in the city."

  • "The food was really delicious, but the cocktails are a little too strong for my taste. I really loved the abalone and berkshire pork chop. I also really wanted to love their citrus meringue tart, but the crust was too hard. Despite of the tart being too hard, the flavor and components of the tart were excellent though. The blood orange sorbet was a great balance to the sweetness of the tart. Overall, I would recommend this place to my friends. Thank you Prospect for the amazing dining experience on my Valentines date night."

The petite butter lettuce salad with a nut brittle and blue cheese with pomegranate seeds and a balsamic dressing was delicious, and I was was eager to try the abalone appetizer served on butter beans and calamari that followed. I was disappointed that the abalone was not delectable and creamy, but tasteless and a little chewy. The beans were nice, but I didn't order it for the beans alone. For dessert, I went with the caramel corn and chocolate nibs. They served a generous portion, but it was no better than the cheaper version I can buy at the pier in Monterey."

  • "Was hoping for a little more "basic" food with great flavor, and not so much of the obscure ingredients that most people haven't heard of. Ex: the meringue desert didn't seem like or taste like a desert with all its unusual ingredients. Lovely place and great service. I'd to back, but only if on an expense account. I'd definitely go back for a drink in the bar, although by 5:30 it was so crowded, there was no place to sit in the bar."
