ProspectFantastic dinner at ProspectWe ate at Prospect following the recommendation of a girl I met on a plane, so my expectations weren't high going in. However the food was brilliant. All 5 in our group thoroughly enjoyed everything. The highlight was the banana sundae desert which capped off a great meal, and excellent wine.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMBirthday dinnerMy parents really enjoyed the food there a lot. We started out with the scallops, seared tuna and a burrata. They were all delicious, but there were only two scallops. We spilt it three ways, not a big deal but it would have been great to get three. The tuna was great and the black rice cracker was amazing. I liked my burrata. After a while, the waiter came over to tell us that the kitchen was backed up. My mom loved the ribeye and my dad had the pork chop and their dishes were great. My goat was a different story. It came out a little cold. For dessert we had cream puffs, ice cream sandwiches and the banana pie sundae. They were all delcious. Parents really like the food, so we booked another for Father's Day Brunch to give it another try.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGood, as expected...I have been to Prospect several times and have never been disappointed. My only surprise, albeit minor, was they changed the hard boiled egg appetizer. No more jalapeno and bacon. The replacement eggs were not bad, but did not live up to expectations and I was not savvy enough to ask if they had changed the eggs before ordering some for my east coast guest. We went out to Prospect and had a lovely evening.
The wine was superb, the appetizers were amazing, and everyone's main dish except for mine was great (it just wasn't as good as others at the table.) Dessert was okay and dessert wine was good. We would come back.
For appetizers we had the : Hawaiian Kampachi Crudo, California Burrata & Eva’s Heirloom Tomatoes, and Maine Lobster & Purple Asparagus
For main entrees we had the: Pork, Kobe and Ribeye
For dessert we had the: cheese plate, banana creme pie sundae and the strawberry surprise

Our table location wasn't the best, near where servers come in and out. But the fantastic service and food made us forget that aspect pretty quickly.
Wine and cocktail list is extensive, including wines by the glass.
One of our dishes was the rib eye. Most places, regardless of price, when you order it medium rare, will deliver it closer to medium. Prospect got it just right.
Duck entree was also great. Portions were a good size, and the duck came deboned.
Appetizers and dessert were also great all around. Everything is well thought out.

Four of us were seated in a very roomy booth. The food is spectacularly good, the service wonderful without being cloying, even the ice cubes in the cocktails were special (no kidding, they hardly melt). Two of us had a duck entree that was delicious, and the other two said the same about a fish dish. We ordered a dessert to share but knowing it was a birthday meal, the waiter presented us with an extra dessert. Bit disappointed to not find the quail on the menu this time (it was SO good last time I came here) but others in our party raved about the duck & my halibut was perfectly cooked. After having been in the wine country all day, everyone was back to hydration mode so we skipped the alcohol though the list is good here. However, I did sense a twinge of disdain from the server when we opted out of booze... Nevertheless, other staff kept our water carafe and glasses full. I went for my anniversary with my wife and both of us were very impressed with the quality of the food and the ambiance. The restaurant also custom made menues for us saying "happy anniversary" at the top and gave us a couple complementary items because of our anniversary. We have been to steak houses like Donovan's and Ruth's Chris before but had never been to a fine dining restaurant like Prospect and it did not disappoint. I ordered the Kobe Bavette and was amazed by the quality of the beef and how well it paired with my side items. My friend and I each had a salad and then fish; I had the local swordfish and she had the sole. So often fish is prepared just so-so, underdone or overdone or just plain without much flavor, but at Prospect our fish was perfect: beautiful presentation, perfect texture and wonderful flavor.
Although the restaurant has a large space with high ceilings and was pretty much filled, the noise level was not a problem; it was easy to have a conversation across the table without straining.
