Proof RestaurantLove the vino and the foodI come here with one of my oenophile friends periodically. We always love the wines we select. The menu changes seasonally and the descriptions always sound divine. The food is great, the desserts are worth the treat. I had a casual business dinner with a friend and the ambiance, noise-level and attentiveness of our server (showed up at the right times, didn't hover or bother) were perfect for it.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Client/Friend DinnerThe Chef's Charcuterie selection is a must for a group of 5 or more - delicious. Our waiter was knowledgeable about each cut without being overly "precious" in the presentation. The cheese selection was yummy as well. Food was varied and delicious. After the "meaty" starter, I had a light-as-air butter lettuce/citrus salad, followed by gnocchi with hen of the woods mushrooms. Delicious. The sommelier was wonderful, I found the wine list a bit overwhelming and expensive...after a brief chat about what sort of red we were looking for, our budget and some of our favorite wines, he suggested a reasonable bottle that.was.AMAZING!
Great on all counts - a tad pricey on the wine selections. Bar area is small and gets crowded.

Our waiter made the evening very enjoyable. He helped navigate the menu and drinks and was all around a pleasant person. The food was just terrific and sharing is the way to go. Proof fits that description. This is one of my all time favorites. The only small blemish is that the lighting is so dim at some tables that it hides how nice the prepared dishes look...and also makes ordering a bit of a challenge. By all means, try this place.

Proof is one of the few restaurants in DC that I would recommend. The food was hands down amazing. All the ingredients were of the highest quality. We enjoyed everything we ordered. Especially great were the meatballs and the goat cheese dip. Also, the toffee cake was off the charts.

Charcuterie, cheese and wine with a small plate and desert; a cocktail, appetizer and entree, many choices at different price levels though what you have them bring up from a great wine cellar will mostly determine your bill. The wine list is unbelievable, both in terms of selection as well as price (spend as much as you want!). We ended up ordering several different two-ounce pours, which were very reasonably priced. This allowed us to sample many wines we would otherwise not get the chance to, including six we checked off our Century Club list.
