Diner Reviews
  • "Proof is perfect for a night out. We started out with a couple cocktails at the bar where the atmosphere is lively. Then we moved on to dinner which is always a treat. My husband had the tagliatelle which was creamy and delicious with the freshest veggies. I had the bison burger and it never disappoints!"

  • "Bison burger and truffle fries with Jezebel sauce one of my favorites. Fru fru quality food but not fru fru portions."

  • "We came for an anniversary dinner and were very satisfied. The wait staff was friendly and attentive but not overbearing, and made good recommendations. Different courses of our meals were delivered promptly. Since our server was aware that it was our anniversary he did some "special" things that we might not expect. Everything was perfect, except perhaps the place was somewhat noisy. Parking was close, convenient and inexpensive. We were able to tour the hotel for the art before and after the meal. We'll be back for other special events."

  • "Had dinner here on a Sunday night at 8 and it was still fairly busy. I had the death's door drink which was really good. We had the charred octupus and just as everyone says it was amazing. For entrees we had the burger and hog chop. Both were great and the fries were nice and crispy. The chocolate goo cake was one of the best chocolate cakes I've ever had. It has some crunch to it and adds to the texture. Overall really great dinner in a very interesting artistic setting."

  • "Very nice. The best pork chop I have ever had. Nice wine selection. Highly recomend."

  • "Worst service my husband and i have ever had, which is a shame because the food was outstanding. In 7 years with my husband, this was the first time he has ever tipped at less than 15%. It was a shame to spend $130 on a delicious dinner (and drinks) for two, only to leave feeling so unpleasant because of our waiter."

  • "I make a reservation here for a one-night stay-over about three times a year to provide an escape for my wife and I. A walk about town, a tour of the contemporary art displayed in the adjacent museum and an outstanding dinner for two completes a wonderful weekend!"

  • "The charred octopus appetizer was a show stealer. The pork chop was also among the best I have had I will definitely recommend this spot to friends."

  • "The service was impeccable from host to server to busboys - great selection of starters and mains all well prepared - wine list and liquor selection broad and well priced - innovative desserts"

  • "We arrived around 7pm and were seated in an empty half of the dining room. By 7:45, things began to pick up and we finally began to embrace the energy that is to be expected from a restaurant deemed one of Louisville's "hot spots." My wife and I are self proclaimed non-foodies but we love great food and great experiences. We did out best to piece together a delicious meal but, in the end, weren't wowed. The waiter didn't have the energy I have come to expect from restaurants on the same level as Proof, but that very well could have been due to the lack of energy throughout the restaurant. I would have loved a bit more help and recommendations navigating the menu. I'd recommend Proof, but make sure you arrive post 7:30."

  • "Proof On Main was recommended by our good friend Jon Carlofftis and his recommendation was spot on. We arrived early for our dinner reservation and were directed to the bar where the wait was relaxing. We were promptly seated when we reported for dinner and the waiter was extremely helpful when we had questions regarding the menu choices. We will dine there again and will recommend Proof On Main to our friends."

  • "My brother had suggested we stay at the Museum hotel and have dinner at Proof when we were visiting from California. While I have enjoyed amazing meals across the US, I was absolutely blown away by this dinner. The hot item on the 'shared' menu is the roasted octopus - don't miss it! I had a wonderful grouper entree but my husband ordered the dish of the evening. I believe it was called "hog chop" and it was unbelievably delicious - moist, succulent, sweet, not salty but clearly brined - fabulous! Wish we lived closer, would love to visit often."

  • "The food was great and the service was awesome as well. We would definitely go there again. Very vibrant place. Extensive wine and bourbon lists."

  • "One of my favorite spots in Louisville, the formula steak restaurants should take note this place can hold its own with the meat/potato crowd and the foodie!!!"

  • "Wonderful dining experience! We were there on a Sunday night and had the pre fixe Sunday supper. It was an outstanding meal. A highlight of the meal was having the chef come out to describe the main dishes to us personally. Recommended the restaurant to friends, and they also had a fabulous experience. Must-go-to restaurant when in Louisville!"

  • "Were hotel guests & had dinner here. We were initially seated in the dining room kitchen-side, which was darker and noisier than the main room. Our hostess was very, very kind to re-seat us in the main room upon our request. Our server was wonderful, as was the food (roasted bones, scallops, hog chop). Of course we'll be back, especially if the service is as good."

  • "Visiting Louisville for the first time and so pleased to have found this fantastic place. Lively crowd and bar scene inside a cool hotel, delicious locavore fare."
    Dined on 7/4/2014
  • "We stopped by for lunch and shared the grilled cheese and BLT with avocado sandwiches. This is fare you can find anywhere but no where is the attention to detail and product nearly as perfect. The ingredients and combination of flavors are a bit different from your dive or diner but not so avant garde that it's pretentious like at a lot of other establishments. Highly recommended!"

  • "Brunched at Proof Sunday June 30. The spicy Bloody Marys were prepared just right..spicy and delicious. Everyone's entree was as ordered and tasty and delicious. I had the Egg White Frittata. We even ordered the French Toast Casserole as a shared appetizer. Highly recommend this brunch experience!!"

  • "This past weekend served as my mother's first trip to the state of Kentucky and I wanted to take her to dinner somewhere nice that not only featured great food and beverage options, but also provided a dining experience that helps showcase a lovely city. Proof did all that and more."

  • "Great food, service, and atmosphere! Our wait person Patty was personable & attentive. The good selection changed the 2 different nights we were there and all of the choices including dessert were fantastic!"

  • "On summer Sunday nights, this restaurant has a fixed price meal composed with local ingredients. Very creative meal - just delicious. The restaurant has interesting artwork because it's located in a museum hotel. A real find in Louisville!"

  • "We had a wonderful, delicious late dinner. The food was exquisite. My husband wished his scallops had been twice the size, but that is normal. We will happily go back when visiting Louisville again, which we will be doing next year."

  • "Good place to bring visitors to the Louisville area for fine dining."

  • "This was the first time for my wife and me @ Proof. The food was good but overpriced. Value was not there. Service was good but we waited too long for our entrees. We arrived @ 6:30pm and there were few people there at that time. Tables are a bit too close. Young man next to us dining alone almost fell across our table as he left to use the restroom. We were a bit disappointed overall."
    Dined on 6/15/2014
  • "We were visiting from out of town and Proof had been recommended to us. Our wait staff was gracious and attentive. However, the noise level of the restaurant was nearly unbearable. The food was average at best. It's obvious they are trying for a NYC edgey menu -- but it was pedestrian at best."

  • "This was my second time to Proof on Main, and they didn't disappoint. The food, service and atmosphere is fantastic. This is a must go to restaurant in Louisville."

  • "Consistently unusual and very well-prepared dishes. This time I had the bison tartare, which was both delicious and original in presentation."
    Dined on 6/14/2014
  • "The food was exciting prepared and interesting with refreshing and creative cocktails. Great service and beautiful ambience, even for a late reservation. Really enjoyed strolling through the galleries at 21c next door late after dinner."

  • "When we made the reservation we stated that we were celebrating a birthday and wedding anniversary in our party. There was no recognition on behalf of the restaurant greeter. We were assigned a table in the street window and after much prodding were able to change our table. Food was excellent. Wait staff was helpful but dressed in very casual clothes. Servers in fast food restaurants are more identifiable as to who they work for."

  • "The menu changes frequently, and the food is always great. This time was not exception. We were joined by an out-of-state friend, and it is fun to show off Proof on Main, as well as 21C."

  • "We ate Sunday brunch at Proof before seeing The Book of Mormon and we're very excited to finally be dining at this establishment. We were very impressed with the whole experience and look forward to coming back for lunch and dinner."

  • "I always choose Proof when we have a special celebration (Including after my high school graduation!). It has not let me down yet. I typically hate choosing restaurants for my friends and I to eat (what if they don't like it!?) but I never worry about Proof. Everyone always loves it, the food is divine, and they are always surprised by how unpretentious it is. It's the only restaurant that keeps me driving back to louisville after I moved to lexington. "

  • "My third visit, but the first for the rest of our group. Service was excellent & we were asked immediately if going to a show (we were) & we had plenty of time to relax, eat and get to our show. Servers had excellent recommendations & answered questions perfectly. The menu is varied with a little bit of everything, which is one of the reason we chose it..another very good meal for all of us! Many 'foodie' options with interesting combinations. I chose the newly added Black Bass, which I had never tried before, a mild fish, but with an interesting 'sauce' with watermelon & coriander. Soft shell crab appetizer was excellent as well. If you have never tried grits, try a sid of them here--great texture & a bit cheesy--very yummy!"
