Diner Reviews
  • "On my first visit to Proof I was notably impressed with the service provided at all levels; however, I was especially impressed with the young lady tending bar. She made a perfect drink for me after I described a cocktail I'd had at a different restaurant. I will certainly try to replicate it at home. The food was amazing but I did not like the heavy smoked flavor in the kale served with the scallops. The scallops were perfectly prepared and the grapefruit confit added just the right contrast. The cornbread purée was such a great "southern " touch. A truly lovely evening !!"

  • "We had a couple nice meals at Proof. Sometimes they go a little overboard in being "foodie" but the atmosphere is great, great service, and unique food choices. Healthy options would be nice as they tend to be a bit heavy, but that's where a lot of taste is... ;)"

  • "This was my second visit to Proof on Main. Had to come back for the charred octopus (thanks for keeping it on the menu!!). My entree was the Woodland Farm Hog Chop. Oh my!! I wanted to pick the bone up and chew off all that porky goodness! My husband had the Bison T-bone special and had the same comment! We will definitely be back on our next trip through Louisville."

  • "We came into Louisville from out of town for dinner and Thunder. This was our second time at Proof and the food and service were even better than the first. Highly recommend the Roasted Bones starter and the Pork chop. The scallops and salmon were also delicious."

  • "My recent eating experience at Proof on Main was to my expectation for the food. Great flavors and creative combinations. The service was not the best. Our waiter was knowledgable when he came around. There were 10-15 minute intervals from when he would come back to our table for drinks to food, etc. THis would be understandable if it was packed but there were plenty of empty tables."

  • "WONDERFUL! One of the best dining experiences we've had in a very long time. The service is fantastic, the food is really special, and the wine & cocktail lists were great! We had a charcuterie board, brussel sprout salad, chicken, scallops, and a dessert - everything was really delicious. The wine list is huge, with varied prices and styles so there should be something for everyone. I highly recommend this for your next night out in Louisville!"

  • "This was by far one of the best dining experiences we have had in a long time. Everything was perfect: service, food, ambiance. It was not inexpensive, but the experience was so wonderful, we didn't mind."

  • "The menu is great and food delicious. Staff were amazing and the wine list is extensive one of my favorite restaurants anywhere."

  • "From the soup to the salad, main course and dessert, the food was consistently well prepared and nicely presented. The entre portions were generous and flavorful. The service was quite good. The wine list was a disappointment with very few really interesting or different wines by the glass….and not one un-oaked Chardonnay and not one Burgundy white (Chardonnay based) selection, although there was a light and crisp Sauvignon Blanc.) That approach is a missed opportunity to introduce better wines. A short description of each of the wines would also be helpful to the casual wine consumer. Overall, it was a very nice dinner in a clean, attractive and well managed dining room."

  • "Fantastic meal in a great atmosphere.... excellent service, absolutely everything was right. We stayed and had cocktails in the bar after dinner, because it was such a great time!"

  • "I made reservations here for a group of top professionals in my field from across the country -- so, needless to say, I didn't want to disappoint my guests. EVERYONE at the table -- people who dine out in superior restaurants constantly -- all agreed that this was one of the top ten dining experiences that we had ever had. In fact, our only argument was between those who put it "top five" as opposed to "top ten!" Can't wait to return...everything from food to service was truly extraordinary!"

  • "Visitng from Cinci, but we have good experiences with restaurants in the 21C hotel group - Metropole in Cincy and Proof on Main in L'ville. The food was very tasty, well prepared, and the plates visdually pleasing. We did not really get the concept of providing pink cotton candy at the end of the meal, as this in our opinion neither fiits with the food nor is a pallet cleaner. It is whimsical, but detracted from the experience. All in all, we recommend PoM and will return next time we're in town!"

  • "I had heard good things about Proof on Main but it exceeded even high expectations. Lively atmosphere but well-designed to mute noise. Attentive but not intrusive service, impeccably prepared food. Food was very fresh and seasonal and not overly complex but perfectly executed. Foodie or non-foodie could appreciate it! Can't wait to return. Pricey but still felt like a good value because I will remember this meal for a long time. Perfect to celebrate our anniversary."

  • "Outstanding restaurant for young and us not-so-old-married-37 years! Wonderful menu, excellent presentation and outstanding, delicious dinner! Mary and I have been here many times before, and we will return time and time again from Lexington!"

  • "Proof has taken up the challenge of Metropole ( best restaurant in the Midwest) and delivers great flavors. Service can still be relaxes So let them know if you have a curtain they to."

  • "We ate here last Sat before a concert at the Brown Theater. I had the brussel sprout salad and the scallops. The salad had a very refreshing dressing, the cracklings added a nice crunch. The scallops were cooked perfectly. My companions had the chicken and the bison burger. I did try the chicken and it was very tender and juicy. We also shared the grits (which were a little thin and under seasoned- I like mine thick). For dessert, I had the s'mores cookie. I would not recommend it; it was dry and hard and most of the ice cream had melted by the time it reached the table--poorly executed. My friend had the gooey chocolate cake and it was rich and decadent as expected. Our waiter was very sweet and quick with reccomendations."

  • "I am not a foodie, but I know a good restaurant. Proof is excellent. The service is always impeccable and the food is delicious. I love that they source much of their menu from local farms (ok, maybe not the octopus). The only negative is the noise level is pretty intense when the dinner crowd picks up - around 7 pm. It was hard to hear the other person at my table."

  • "We have had dinner at Proof many times. We continue to be amazed at the quality and variety of the menu choices. The special entree was a bison tenderloin and it was outstanding. Also, the servers always make you feel like a valued guest."

  • "I've eaten at Proof on Main many times and have always enjoyed the food. In fact, in my humble opinion it was some of the best in town. However, the bison was the worst I've ever had at any restaurant and unfortunately 3 of 4 people ordered the Bison. I'm not sure what has changed. But, you are headed in the wrong direction on food quality."

  • "My wife and I went for our 5th anniversary and it was one of the best restaurants we have been to. The staff was polite, friendly, and some of the most professional people I have seen in my dining experience. First, we had cocktails. My wife had the Barely Know Her which was a bit on the sweeter side and I had the Bricks and Ivy which was a little more stout but very tasteful. My wife and I both had the bison burger with the truffle oil fries. Those fries......so good. The maitre d stopped by our table and asked how things were and what the occasion was and we told her it was our anniversary. She surprised us at the end of the meal with a complimentary order of cotton candy. If you are looking for a classy night out, this is your place."

  • "A repeat visit to 21C and Proof on Main. Food, as always, was fantastic. Loved the bone in Bison steak - prepared to perfection. My wife enjoyed her gnocchi. Splurged on Sea Spray Pinot, which I rarely see on a list. Service was excellent. I will be back again."

  • "Greeted well. Hostess and others underdressed. With a group who wanted to try different things. Octopus is a don't miss fantastic option for appetizer. Entree wise, we ordered scallops, salmon, porkchops, bison burger, gnocchi, and chicken. Pork chop was surprisingly the best. The sauce with the fries was terrible. The wine sommelier was fantastic. The waitress rushed through the menu and we barely understood. They were already out of their special at 8:30. Overall, we are glad we tried it, but we wouldn't recommend it. Barely average."

  • "I had the pleasure of dining at Proof on Main just the other evening. From start to finish, this was one of the most amazing sining experiences I have ever had. The cocktails were sublime. The Roasted Bones was heaven, we may have licked the board clean. Salads were simple and fresh. The Cassolet was a Southern spin on the classic and hit al the marks. Even though we probably didn't need the dessert, I'm glad we indulged. I highly reccommend this restaurant for any occassion. Thank you!"

  • "We were looking forward to our dinner at Proof on Main for weeks. Everything was great, well, except, we aren't very adventurous eaters and maybe we should have looked at the menu beforehand. The brussel sprout salad was very good - minus the "heavenly" (as described) fried chicken skins on it. The appetizer gnocchi with ricotta and brussel sprouts was amazing - no complaints what-so-ever. But then we had to pick a dinner. Usually there is always a steak option and we're safe, but not on this menu. Bison. That's what they raise and cook. I'm not opposed to Bison, but I don't particularly like it either. I opted for the Valentines special of the beat ravioli. It was good, but for the price, I was disappointed to get only 3 small raviolis."

  • "Fantastic, gourmet food in an energetic atmosphere. Loved the art. Unusual and superb, hand-crafted cocktails. We enjoyed all courses from beginning with ricotta cheese for the table and ending with the Goo Goo Pie dessert!"

  • "We had a mixed group of 6 adults. Half were adventuresome eaters and half were not. The menu at first appeared to intimidate with what I would say was a creative above average selection (said by one of the non-adventuresome eaters), but when you got into it there is something for everyone. Every one of us thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the wait staff was outstanding. The entree took a little longer to arrive than anticipated, however they were most apologetic and it was a very busy night. Their bar is always "hopping" and their mixologiests are expert at preparation. Fun, upscale decor, friendly staff and superb food."

  • "Stopped here on a business trip for dinner on the recommendation of a friend who had been for brunch. I will go here every time I'm in Louisville - it was a meal I won't forget. Rabbit sausage, fois gras, duck fat cornbread crumbles and veggies to die for. Had a flight of whiskey that also put the bow on my evening. Amazing food, extremely pleasant/attentive service and the manager stopped by my table to ask for me feedback. A well run restaurant with a cool, artsy, funky vibe. Highly recommended."

  • "To celebrate a birthday had dinner and brunch at Proof on Main. We specifically love this restaurant for the unique and daring artwork, food and cocktails. It's stimulates conversation and is somehow relaxing for hyper people like us who's brains just don't stop when they should. Many people showed up around 8 pm dressed in everything from trendy blue jeans all the way up to evening formal wear . Our server was very professional, drinks were strong and the food was excellently prepared. I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. It's more expensive than we usually go but it's perfect for a celebration."

  • "Three of us dined at Proofs on a Wednesday evening. After a pre-dinner drink at their wonderful bar, we were seated promptly at our table and ordered different items off their small, but unique menu. All our dishes were wonderful and our server did a great job. Since we were staying at the 21c hotel, we had decided to eat at their own restaurant instead of going elsewhere - we were happy we did!"

  • "Go. to. the. bathroom. Really. You walk through a museum! With interactive awesome art! There's also art all around the restaurant (walls, hanging from ceiling, at the bar). And the food is also delish, drinks great. The service was only okay, but a small blip in an otherwise amazing meal."

  • "I have eaten here before and appreciate the "farm to table" concept that they are trying to develop. Many Kentucky produced products were featured, and the Ky buffalo was outstanding. I would go again in a heartbeat."
