Diner Reviews
  • "We arrived on Saturday at our reservation time. We made our reservation on opentable. The maitre d' waved his hand at me and said we did not have a reservation. I had my phone so I showed him my confirmation email. He said he would try to fit us in. He then sat us at a tiny table crammed in a corner. We tried this restaurant because it was restaurant week and we wanted to try something new. The tight little corner we were in had no ambiance and was a bit dirty to be honest. The food was ok, the service was ok. I would not go back to this restaurant. Its very dated and needs a good cleaning. The maitre d' needs an attitude adjustment-the experience was ruined at the door."

  • "Went for restaurant week and the food was ok!! The bar however was nice and the bartender made wonderful drinks."

  • "The waiter struggled with his English and had poor communication skills. First off the shrimp appetizer included 4 tiny shrimp that I could by at Harris Teeter for a small handful of pocket change. For a $12 appetizer I could not believe that jumbo prawns were not served. While that alone is not a deal breaker, my steak was delivered well done when ordered medium rare (sent it back) while my girlfriends chicken dish was also overcooked. Further, the mashed spuds that were served as a side appeared and tasted like they were made from a powder. They reminded me of being in the 5th grade at the school cafeteria. This was a special occasion for my girlfriends birthday celebration but we both left disappointed."

  • "While the overall experience left a lot to be desired, certain parts of the evening were fine. We did go during Queen's Feast as we wanted to give the restaurant a try. Absolutely no menu changes were allowed - fair enough - but when I asked if the prosciutto could be omitted from the portobello mushroom and was told no, and then it came out and couldn't have been easier to remove, I was a little annoyed. My ribeye was cooked perfectly; my date's stuffed chicken was a little dry. Service was extremely slow. We felt as though we were a burden rather than guests. This place has the potential to be a great neighborhood restaurant. Based on our first experience, I doubt we'll return."

  • "The restaurant is a bit dated. However, the egg plant parm is excellent. The cheesecake tasted freezer burned and the lobster ravioli was hard on the edges."

  • "It was my first visit to Primo and we went during restaurant week. The food and staff were five star! The interior could use some sprucing up but was fine - the food and service were both great. It's above another restaurant so you do take stairs to get there which could be difficult for older folks possibly. Quaint and in a fun location."

  • "Whether it's restaurant week or a regular Saturday, Primos never dissapoints me. It's always excellent, from the atmosphere at the bar to our table, the food and service are spot on."

  • "The menu and food were very good. Everything was prepared very well. It was very quiet-background music needed. There were probably 5-6 groups dining and they put each party in a differnt corner of the restaurant. Server was a bit impatient when asked any questions about the menu."

  • "The waiter was not attentive to our table. Ordered an incorrect salad, slow response on replacing it which caused a delay in our main course. We had to ask another waiter when we needed other items and refills. This is the third visit to this restaurant and we had service issues two of the three times."

  • "Overall, I would say this was a good dining experience. At 6:30 pm on a Thursday, the place was pretty empty. While I thought the quality of the food was good, the menu seemed old world. Not very contemporary. the Calimari looked like it came from a bag. The stuffed chicken was excellent I was surprised when the check came. Pretty pricey, when our only drink was a bottle of Pellegrino. If it's always this quiet, then it's a great place for a special meal. Other than that, I doubt I will return."

  • "Food was good, not great. Actual menu was much smaller than that on their website. Service was poor. Waiter was frantic (although when we we arrived there were many open tables), any courtesy was perfunctory. He asked about our food after we were finished, he never asked if we would care for another beverage. He literally flung the check on the table as he was walking by. Restaurant was loud. Tables were much too close together. Man at a nearby table got bumped numerous times by patrons walking by. Food was good, but not good enough to put up with everything else that is wrong."

  • "The food was fair to good but the service was very good. There was no bread served, only sesame seed crackers which is unheard of at an Italian restaurant. There are other Italian restaurants in Charlotte that are much better all around (food, price and ambiance) when compared to the Primo Tuscan Grill."

  • "We made dinner reservations 2 weeks out to dine at Primo. We were seated at our table within 10-15 mins as our table wasn't ready on time. We did not mind waiting for the table; however, once we were seated, we never had a waiter approach us. After being seated for THIRTY MINS we decided to leave. Only upon standing up, did a waiter walk up to us and ask us what was wrong. My husband told him we had been sitting at the table for 30 minutes without any assistance. The waiter mumbled something - but no apology - and walked off. Can't review the food because we never had any. We thought we might get a phone call with an apology later since the restaurant had our name/number due to our res, but that didn't happen either. AWFUL customer service."

  • "Dined twice this week. Already had reservations for Valentines Day when we lost our power the day before. Fortunately, Primo was open and we had a wonderful meal after a long cold day. The special menu for Valentines Dinner the next evening was wonderful with both of us selecting the Beef Wellington."

  • "Primo is a terrific restaurant. The staff is always friendly, and food terrific. Always recommended. If restaurant week is your first experience at Primo, be sure to go back. The full menu and specials are great, and it's not so hectic. Reasonably priced for a high end restaurant."

  • "We went during restaurant week. Appetizer was chopped salad. Strange tangy taste. Filet was over cooked and creme' brûlée was cold. Waiter was inattentive but bartender was great."

  • "Primo is an Italian Gem in Eastover. The food and decor are great and so is the service. The only thing I would recommend is bringing your own steak knife as theirs are horrid."

  • "I have wanted to go to Primo for a while now and a friend and I decided to go for Queen's Feast Restaurant Week. We both enjoyed our meals very much. Our waiter did a great job at giving us recommendations for wine and helping us choose between the menu items that we were considering. The atmosphere is cozy and there are beautiful paintings on the walls throughout the restaurant. I would definitely go back to this restaurant based on the food, service, and atmosphere."

  • "The food wasn't horrible, but it wasn't amazing. I ordered the lasagna, and honestly there are better Italian foods out there. Chef Boyarde as more taste and spices, the service was great, the mixed drinks were perfect, the decor, the table and everything was great, just the food was okay."

  • "When we arrived we were greeted and quickly shown to our table. The wait staff was excellent and the atmosphere was nice however, the food was dismal at best. We both ordered fish, hers was the special of the day and it was bland. Mine had some flavor but it looked like a frozen piece that was warmed up in the oven, and the plating was armature at best. I paid over $100 for the dinner and I could have done better with three packages from the frozen section and 40min time with a hot oven and a microwave. Again the service and ambience were great, but was sorely disappointed in the food. I will not recommend this place to any of my friends or return myself because the food was that bad."

  • "I can't recommend this place for anything. The food was horrible and the service was so poor the waiter never greeted us or told us his name. The veal hemingway could have ben cooked when he was alive."

  • "The salad was excellent, and the meat was properly cooked. However, the mashed potatoes had very little flavor and tasted somewhat institutional. The overall meal was not to the standard I expected."

  • "Been there 2 or 3 times before. Food was not nearly as good as before. Did not like the smell of the restaurant to start. The shrimp appetizer was not good...the portobello appetizer was fair. Chopped salad was awful. Wife had the farfelle and sausage..pretty good. I had the lobster ravioli which were so so and so few. They did not have decalf cappucino and its supposed to be an Italian restaurant. Last time we go there."

  • "This is a wonderful & intimate Italian restaurant close to uptown in Myers Park. The crabcakes were the best I've had in Charlotte, though a little skimpy on the vegetable side. They were happy to customize a pasta dish for us and it was delicious also. The bread & large crackers were tasty. They have a nice wine list. The bar area is nice & quiet. Dress to impress. Ladies in dresses, Gents in sportcoats."

  • "As per usual, everything about Primo was a bulls-eye! Keep it up, you are a Meyers Park treasure. JPC P.S. This trip, cheated a bit on noise, ate early when crowd was still small. However, for once I could hear all our table topics without say "What?" once!"
