  • "Amazing dinner with all fresh local and mostly grown on property meats and greens. Upstairs is very hip and happening, while downstairs is more traditional. Excellent!!"

  • "We made our semi annual visit to Primo and were amazed by Chef Kelly's lamb ravioli and her home made hot Italian sausage. Her presentation was flawless and her staff was outstanding. Primo is still a magical place after ten years of visits."

  • "Began with 3 delicious breads, focaccia and 2 crusty breads. I could've made a meal on the breads. The appetizer was a trio of shell fish i.e. stuffed clams, fried scallops in a yummy sauce and shelled shrimp grilled perfectly although we all would've preferred if the shrimp had been peeled. A delightful chicken pate was the chef's complimentary amuse bouche. I had the best roast lamb ever and order lamb often. I doubt I'll ever have lamb as delicious until I dine again at Primo. My husband thought his swordfish was the best he'd ever had and our guest raved about the sturgeon-lobster combo. Gelato all around for dessert. The Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc were lovely. Service was impeccable. Can't wait to return to Primo."

  • "Given the price I was quite disappointed in the food. This was my second trip to Primo ... first time was outstanding, not sure what happened."

  • "Primo never disappoints. It deserves all the awards for excellent. Food, wine, and ambience are wonderful. The wait staff is quietly attentive, making sure everything is as it should be."

  • "Absolutely fabulous. Primo's never fails to amaze us with their fresh food and wonderful presentation. Unfortunately, it is not a place we can afford to go to every week but when we go it is always special. . We consider it a destination restaurant and usually spend the night in Rockland. Melissa Kelly is a miracle worker with fresh ingredients. The octopus and squid appetizers are always favorites. (Primos is the only place where I eat those fish - who knew you didn't have to chew for minutes and when cooked properly the fish would just melt in your mouth) I like the fish main courses but the pasta, pork and everything else is equally good. The desserts are all exquisite."

  • "We have tried to experience Primo for many years. Finally made & well worth wait. Fresh greens in interesting combinations made salads amazing and seafood was delicious!! Looking forward to returning soon."

  • "Love touring the gardens before dining to guess what will be on the menu for the evening."

  • "The food was excellent and the timing of service was also good-no rush despite the amount of people waiting for tables. Large space but did not feel that way because of the way the rooms are broken into small sections. Still a little on the noisy side but that is the customer being loud not the fault of the restaurant Wine list VERY pricey-there was no bottle of wine that was less expensive than the entrees which adds a lot to the cost of the meals. Portion sizes good but not so much that you cannot finish it in one sitting. Being able to walk the grounds and see the food you will be eating is also great Would go again and bring 'foodie' friends along-PRIMO definitely warrants their reputation."

  • "Try the fried oysters. Amazing. Flavor, texture, presentation! This is our monthly two hour round trip to eat and we love it. Packed on this Wednesday night. Service, excellent. Shared pasta, excellent. My seared scallops may be the best I ever had. Very good wine choice for the night. We have to eat early (?) because of our drive home so look out for the kids(?!) here before the eight o'clock tables arrive and shift to adults. This may well be Maine's best restaurant."

  • "Really wonderful cuisine; all five dishes we had were either excellent or truly outstanding. Best were two pasta options, for which half-size appetizer portions were available. Portions ranged from sane (the pastas, a tuna entree) to frustratingly gargantuan (the duck and scallop and swordfish dishes observed at an adjacent table). Our server was not able to help us select a wine, and promised assistance from a sommelier, but that guy never did show up. We did end up with a very satisfactory wine, but it was a special occasion and with assistance would have stretched for something more soecial. Bussing was erratic; at one point we were eating a course while three dirty plates remained on the table."

  • "For a number of years Primo has been my favorite restaurant anywhere...and we enjoy many visits as seasonal residents. The food is fresh and inventive. We have tried, and loved, most of the items on the menu in the 12-13 years we've dined there. It's difficult for me to say it, but the service seems to be slipping this season. Polite, but inattentive waitstaff, botched orders, half the table getting their order and very long delays for the rest of the table to be served, then delays again between courses, have been frequent recently. I can't imagine the difficulty of maintaining the high level of excellence we came to expect through the years, but I really hope whatever needs to happen to make the necessary improvements isn't far off."

  • "Our dinner last Sunday evening was one of our best in recent memory. It was superb in every category. She had the swordfish, I had the pork Saltimbocca (described as the chef/owner's specialty). Sadly, our Maine vacation came to an end or we'd have been back for seconds. I recommend this place enthusiastically! If you go, go early to tour the grounds. Exquisite!"

  • "Primo is an exceptional dining treat: food, service ambiance. Though not an inexpensive restaurant, the phrase is, "You get what you pay for". At Primo you pay a lot, you get a lot. I'm an artist, not a stock broker, therefore very discerning about how I appropriate my funds. For me dining at Primo is an unbelievable, intoxicating experience not to be missed if one is able. Additionally, it's located in central coastal Maine, a gem in itself."

  • "Every summer we vacation in Boothbay Harbor and every summer we make our reservations way in advance to dine at Primo. The food is always fresh, creative, and consistent. The wait staff is very attentive, making sure everything is as it should be. We always enjoy our dining experience at Primo while visiting Maine."

  • "We have been to Primo many times. This trip was great but not it's best. The waiter was new, noisy upstairs setting due to Bar area and the service was slow due to it being Oyster night. This restaurant is still the best but was off it's game on our visit."

  • "Our meal was everything we had hoped for and more! Holly was an amazing server who had great knowledge about everything good and great, pairings and just some good local tips. We loved the laid-back feel of everything, but appreciated the love and craft that went into our meal from start to finish. One of the best dining experiences we've ever had!"

  • "Primo is in the tiny town of Rockland, Maine. My husband and I were fortunate to dine at Primo on our driving tour of New England. A friend who is a follower of Chef Melissa Kelly encouraged us to include this in our trip. The evening was lovely! The setting is a beautiful farm with produce growing in sight of our windowside table. Starters of escarole salad with anchovy dressing and cold turnip soup with lovage oil segued into pork saltimbocca and dourade with white beans and greens. This is a special event for those fortunate enough to be in this part of Maine. Experience it if you have the chance."

  • "Over our years visiting Primo for intimate family celebrations, we have always been delighted with food and service. We are now vegan for health reasons and wondered if that could be accommodated. The Chef delivered an entree worthy of the most exclusively vegan friendly reataurants along with a presentation one comes to anticipate from the specials featured. The menu was varied eniugh to meet the preferences of meat, fish, or pasta lovers. It was an exceptional experience to ask about a soecial dietary request and be met with, "Certainly, let me ask the chef what she recommends." Highly recommended."

  • "We had an early dinner here last Saturday night, lovely gardens as you walk in. We were lucky enough to get Ed as our waiter, (we get to the Rockland area about once a summer and make it a point to try to get a reservation at Primo and had Ed as our waiter last year) Ordered a Spring Blossom house drink, been thinking about that since last year. I had the deep fried Squash Blossom stuffed with mozzarella and anchovy for an appetizer and the Rouget (or red mullet stuffed with crab on a bed of corn) Both excellent dessert was the Pistachio pudding with creme brûlée topping. Ed recommended a nice white wine with the fish and all the staff made it a memorable evening."

  • "We loved our first meal at Primo. The food was creatively presented, fresh and tasted wonderful. Our server, Kevyn, was helpful and unpretentious. We'll definitely try the Tucson Primo when we get home."

  • "Food: Fresh, well prepared, creative and interesting! Very competent and friendly wait staff. This is a restaurant that you want to go back whenever you get a chance. We drove one hour to go there and it was worth it."

  • "The service was excellent, ambience beautiful and food outstanding. We have also visited the restaurant in Tucson, Arizona and I must admit that I am more fond of the east coast restaurant in Maine. It is sure worth the visit. Make sure you make reservations!"

  • "Everything we'd heard about this place -- food, service, ambience -- was true. Don't miss the Zeppole for dessert (fresh fried donuts that make the best beignets seem like lead weights)."

  • "Wonderful fresh food prepared by an award winning chef"

  • "This restaurant should be more concerned with the customer experience. We were finally seated at 8:30pm for an 8pm reservation for which we arrived 20 minutes early. We weren't offered drinks or an apology. The menu is limited and the restaurant is very loud. We had much better meals and service at other restaurants during our stay in Maine, which is unfortunate since Primo came highly recommended. We will not go back."

  • "There is not much bad one can say about Primo. We had a really lovely evening. Although the menu changes each day, highlights of our meal was the Chicken Milanese and the stuffed zucchini blossom."
    Dined on 7/4/2014
  • "The food was fabulous as always. Our waitress was wonderful and attentive but there seemed to be a lot of new staff and the food runners were serving to the wrong tables and not serving all meals at the same time. But overall I would highly recommend and I will be going again!!!!"

  • "Myself and my wife both felt the food was great however we were sat upstairs and it was way to loud for a romantic night alone. I would go back however I would definitely asked to be sat downstairs in the formal dinning area."

  • "We visited Primo for our 30th anniversary. The farm to table concept provided exceedingly fresh and interesting fare. The selections were not your average dishes. Staff were incredibly knowledgeable, responsive and professional. Cocktails were delicious and incorporated local herbs. Beer and wine selections were well chosen and the staff's recommedations demonstrated great familiarity with them and how to pair them. Our food was overall outstanding. The sirloin we chose was not cooked to order, but was close and still delicious. The waiter immediately offered to take it back, though we declined for overall timing of the meal. Dessert was comped, however and an additional (heavenly) dessert added so the staff did well in making things right."

  • "the food was amazing, creative, unique, delicious, memorable but the service was slow. Too many long moments in between servings, lack of attention. Our waiter was training a new waitress. I cancelled our second reservation later in the week. We'd go back but will wait for our next trip north."
