  • The only time I've walked out!
    OpenTable Diner Since 2012

Promptly seated for our 7pm res on a Sat nt; evening went downhill from there. 8 min after being seated w/our menus, another staffer brought fresh bread &olive tapenade (both v tasty), & I asked for a wine list. My guest & I chatted & enjoyed the bread & water (sat so long that glasses were refilled twice). After *20 minutes* I got up & told hostess that we hadn't yet seen our waiter, that I had had to ask for wine menu, & I was "thisclose" to walking out. She called our waiter over, & he walked me back to table. I sat & looked up, ready to give him my wine order, only to see his back as he walked away! This is 1st time I've walked out of a restaurant. I had given them opportunity to remedy v poor service, & they blew it. NOT recommended!!

  • Food was Great - when it arrived
    Johnny99

Reservation worked great; sat right down. But for a party of 3, they put us at a six person table and they keep coming by all evening taking chairs, plates, silverware from the other spots. It was annoying. They were very prompt with taking our order, but it took FOREVER to actually receive it. We had to ask 3 people as to why it took so long to for our order, and the service staff kept saying, "It's a crazy night - we are doing our best." What does that mean? When the food arrived, it was great. And for the prices they charge, it should have been. There are too many other restaurants near by that I think can do a better job. We probably won't be coming back. Then again, if you don't mind the wait, you'll enjoy the food.

We thought that the pasta dishes were good but not great and the diner pasta prices put us off. Average diner plates were $25-$35 I noticed many patrons buying the 8 inch pizzas because at $15 each they were the least expensive items on the menu.

We remember this as an elegant and friendly restaurant. The menu hasn't changed for many years, and that's not a compliment. Uninspired Italian fare that is overpriced. Comparable food for about the third the price can be had at franchise restaurants like Bertucci's.

Primi Piatti is not participating in D.C.'s Restaurant Week--something we didn't learn until we were seated. The first waiter said the restaurant was offering a substitute--a three-course lunch for $25.95. Not so: the menu said dessert was extra, albeit 50 percent off. Note to self: research before you reserve.

We had been planning on going to a different restaurant nearby, but it had a 75 minute wait. OpenTable to the rescue with a recommendation for a restaurant only 700 feet away Primi Piatti. The host seated us and told us he would tell the chef/owner/magician we were there. We were seated quickly, but it took quite some time for the waiter to come over. The food was delicious, but when we were done the waiter told us the chef had been too busy to do the magic show, the table next to us also had a child and did not get the magic show either. The restaurant was not at all busy, only 4 or 5 other tables had customers and as we were walking out of the restaurant we saw he was doing card tricks for a couple. I would return in the future.

We eat at Primi Piatti fairly regularly because we love the food and it is conveniently located to the Kenney Center and other theaters. But we were thrilled to see they have a new menu with fabulous new dishes. We made meals of salads and appetizers. Hands down favorite was the fava bean with burratta cheese. We are looking forward to a revisit with larger appetites to try some of the new entree offerings. The superb service we have come to expect did not disappoint.

Primi Piatti has very large rats. Last night we were there and a very large rat was in the dining area and bar area. I don't pay $300 for dinner to have rats entertain me. Call me crazy, but rats and Barolo don't mix. Don't eat here .

We have been coming here for years, and it is consistently excellent. There are many interesting menu items, such as wild boar, gnocchi with duck ragu, and seafood risotto. Everything is fresh, from the marinara to the peas and eggplant. Desserts are highly recommended, as well, such as the cannoli, my fave. The service is friendly and attentive, without being intrusive.

I've always liked the Primi Piatti's external terrace, in this part of town an attraction on its own. Sadly, the food is very average and expensive. When you pay $20+ for a dish of pasta you expect bettet than a bit of butter and cream. But that was how the traditional Roman pasta with pepper and pecorino cheese was served. It tasted almost like macaroni and cheese, not even close to the real Italian dish that is light, made only with freshly ground black pepper and fresh pecorino cheese. Pizzas are very small, expensive and not your best choice in town either. If half the price, I would give a better score, for its current prices Primi Piatti is not aligned with the quality it serves.

I hadn't been back to Primi since 2002, but I remember being really impressed by the food & the service. I was not disappointed on my return visit - the weather was perfect for indoor/outdoor seating, the service was excellent and the food delicious. Fish, pasta and the meat specials were all fantastic. The place is a little pricey but given its location and ambiance, not unfairly so.

When I am in town for meetings at GWU, I often have business lunches here. This time, we had a slightly larger group and reserved for dinner. The place was packed, creating a lively and happy atmosphere. The service was excellent, food terrific. The atmosphere encouraged lively conversation. My only complaint is that it can be a bit pricey--but for a high-class meal, in a casual environment, where you feel well taken care of, it's worth the splurge.
