My friend and I stopped in there before we headed to the Opera. The staff was very nice but I thought they seemed annoyed when we told them we were only doing wine and appetizers. Its not like we were holding up a table....there were only 3 other occupied table. Also, we were there maybe 45 minutes and our bill was $60...its not like we didn't spend any money!

We truly enjoyed our evening at Primi Piatti. I had a very hard time deciding between two different pasta dishes and lo and behold, the waiter brought my dinner with BOTH pastas to be enjoyed! Now that is special.

This is our second visit to Primi Piatti and we were not disappointed. Great service with a knowledgeable, experienced waiter and the owner came by as well. Food is excellent. My only quibble was the appetizer of tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella, and asparagus(a special, not on the menu) was overpriced.

This restaurant was such a treat just a couple of years ago. What has happened? Now, it's simply overpriced and un satisfying. The food was bland, dry, and uninspiring. This place should invite Gordon Ramsey to turn it around.

Overall, it was pretty good food. The menu was limited for restaurant week which was a little disappointing since I've been to places that give you your full choice. It was still very good food, and I enjoyed the chocolate cake very much :)

I hadn't been back to Primi Piatti in years, but had a delightful lunch there during Washington's Restaurant Week--a real bargain at $20: Mussells, veal and a semi-freddo dessert. The food was excellent, and sitting in a sunny front window was divine.

I went for dinner during Restaurant Week, and found Primi Piatti okay but nothing special; I've had much better lunches there when ordering from the regular menu. Service was also okay. The main concern was that several parties were bunched up in the front of the restaurant near the windows, where there was very little room for patrons or servers to move between tables-- even while a lot of tables in more spacious parts of the place, farther back, were empty. All in all, acceptable but in no way memorable this time.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2010

I had been to the restaurant once before, so we decided to try it during Restaurant Week. Our so-called quiet table, became quite noisy over the course of the evening. The starter salad was very ordinary, the lasagne quite good, but without any vegetable or side dish, and the dessert way too sweet and not very tasty. We each had two glasses of wine, at $9 each. Thus our $35.09 dinner turned out to be $65 each, including tax and a 15% tip. We agreed that we would have done better to have ordered an entree of our choice and wine, and skip the dessert and salad which weren't very good. We would have enjoyed the meal more, and it would have cost us a lot less. The Prix Fixe menu is a draw, but in our case, a great disappointment.

I must have walked past a thousand times, but never managed to try it until my division at work decided to have lunch together during restaurant week. They put us in the back room, which would be perfect for a business dinner. Food was good, service was good, I'll definitely go back.

The quality of the food wasn't what I had expected. I thought for the price of the food that I paid for, my girlfriend and I would recieve something better tasting and a larger portion. An ok in my book, and wouldn't come back unless the prices were dropped or the portions are increased.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2007
    Dined on 2/14/2009
This restaurant is questionably the most over-rated italian restaurant in DC. The food was ambitious, and failed in introducing new twists on italian staples like gnocchi. The appetizers were no more than two spoonfuls. In addition, the waiter forgot to put in our order, so our food came after about an hour. Not worth the money, poor service, too loud and tables too close for a romantic date.

Even though I indicated that I was gluten-intolerant/celiac when making the reservation, the waiter seemed to be surprised. He also didn't seem to know what it meant. I actually had a much easier time in Italy with this issue. The waiter seemed unwilling or unable to discuss modifications or substitutions with regards to my meal. Luckily I only seemed to experience minor issues, but I am not as sensitive as some.

I used to hear rave reviews about Primi Piatti - ten years or so ago it was all the rage. Today, it's just a good Italian restaurant -- in the league of good. Not great. We had the salami mixed plate and the oysters appetizer. The salami mix was just that - slices of fresh salami, prociutto and ham - no little sauces or mixes or cheese to grace the plate. The oysters could have been frozen or non-existent...couldn't tell because the breading was so very heavy handed. My main course was spaghetti with mussels -- the mussels shells were broken, and had landed in the meat and pasta. It made things awkward and crunchy. Yuck. My date's pasta was duck and portobello mushrooms - dry but tasty. Service was average - ok, but won't go back

Very mediocre, tomato soup was good, I had Red Snapper that was ok with a tomato and caper sauce with potatoes and spinach, the potatoes tasted as if they were out of a box and the spinach was boiled. My dinning partner had Salmon with the same spinach, his comment on the salmon was that the same salmon slices from Costco actually was better. Not what I expect from a restaurant with these prices, $ 130.00 for two with no alcohol
