Diner Reviews
  • "We go to Prime46forty for special occasions and have never been disappointed. As I will be gone through both Easter and Mother's Day this was a combination. Chef Tim outdid himself yet again. We'll be back."

  • "I initially visited Prime with my son and we absolutely loved everything about it. I told my husband about it and he wanted to try it as well. We invited another couple to join us. We made reservations and I'm really glad we did. Within 30 minutes, Prime was packed. The food once again was outstanding. Thanks Prime!"

  • "It's great to have a terrific restaurant literally w/i 5 minutes of home. It would be worthwhile however even if you had to drive 20 miles to get there."

  • "Happy hour is excellent at the bar (appetizers are great and good wine reasonable). Ask about the appetizer specials. The filet was the most tender and delicious I've had, anywhere."

  • "The food was very good. The appetizer choices were unique and impressive, especially the cheeses. We were disappointed our server did not recognize the member of our party who was celebrating a birthday. I had confirmed with the hostess that the information was on our reservation. We had also been told his dessert would be comped, but it was not."

  • "Great meal but poor desserts. Service was poor as server did not serve my wife's me before anyone at the table but actually served her last. As well he ask for her order second at the table even though she was the only female. It was VERY loud and dessert menu changes as they make them in house. I thought that would be good. We were all disappointed with the three we ordered. As well there is no desert menu! With the noise and the several items on the menu it was frustrating to have to keep requesting our server to repeat items. Overall main meal was excellent so would go there again."

  • "Several of our guests had steaks and all were very pleased. I tried 2 appetizers - the mussels and the scallops - both were delicious. We had a very professional waitperson, who knew when to ask how we were doing and when to stay away. All in all a delightful evening."

  • "My wife and I have eaten at Prime46forty several times and the food, service and ambience are consistently excellent. They have a long list of appetizers (Starters) encompassing salads, vegetables, fish and meat. The main courses include several kinds of fish, crab cakes, duck breast, chicken, veal, pork chops and steak. They always have several specials. On our last visit we had a Romaine salad and Tilefish in a crabmeat sauce with potatoes and asparagus. Everything was delicious. The portions are generous and we always share a meal rather than ordering two dinners and taking half of it home."

  • "A little over priced for location and ambiance but the food and wine list are very good."

  • "We tried this restaurant after reading the reviews and learning that the chef had been at Cafe Provencial prior to opening his own restaurant. The restaurant is very well done with lots of care taken to the soft lighting and intimate feeling. The food was delicious. My husband had the pork chop and I enjoyed the rockfish after a scallop appetizer. Service was very attentive without being intrusive. This is now our number one restaurant to visit while in Wiliamsburg."

  • "This restaurant offers an elegant dining experience . Everything we ordered was delicious. I would highly recommend Prime to anyone looking for a restaurant with class and a unique menu selection. This is a pricey place, but it is well worth it for that special occasion ."

  • "Located in a strip shopping center with Target and Walmart, we were very surprised to find an upscale, exquisite restaurant of this high quality. Superb menu and execution. Presentations spot on. Don't live in the area, but will certainly try to eat here when we visit in the future."

  • "Prime serves delectable cuisine in an unlikely setting in a strip mall slightly outside the restored area in Williamsburg. The setting is relaxed & modern with interesting art & color. The food, whether the daily specials or off the menu shows innovative cuisine with gourmet touches. The duck is quite good & the wild boar is different from the usual restaurant fare. The hostess & owner knows how to time meals & contribute to guests' comfort. Servers are attentive without being intrusive. The bar scene includes small batch tonics & a good wine selection. Locals have discovered Prime & tourists looking for quality food should adhere also."

  • "We really enjoyed our dinner at Prime Forty-six Forty. The steaks were fantastic, service was great. It was a 3 hour food adventure. The ONLY down side was the noise level."

  • "Very impressed with the customer service, ambiance and food. The filet mignon was excellent. I did not like one of the appetizers that I ordered and they took it off of my tab (i was not expecting that). The wine was wonderful! A great place for a special occasion. A little pricey but worth the price!"

  • "Wine was totally overpriced. Food was fabulous. So for a wine lover like me, the experience was overpriced."

  • "can't wait to return to one of the best restaurants in Williamsburg. the cocktails are unique, the appetizer was elegant and the main course, I chose the pan roasted organic chicken, was delicate and delicious. the creme brûlée was apple caramel...yes, it's as good as it sounds."

  • "A wonderful surprise on the Williamsburg restaurant scene...up to big city expectations! The food and wine were reasonably priced; appetizers and entrees were creative and delicious. The mussels appetizer beats any I have had anywhere! The service was prompt, friendly, and attentive without being the least bit intrusive, the decor modern and appealing. I will be back on my next visit to Williamsburg."

  • "When in a new place, finding food can be a challenge--especially when one's significant other has a gifted pallet. I traveled to Williamsburg this weekend from DC and let me say: this restaurant is on par with any celebrity chef owned restaurant I've eaten at in the big city. It's amazing! Their menu is chock full of originality without being experimental or pretentious, and service went above and beyond. I got the ribeye and not only was it cooked to a perfect medium-rare, it was one of the best cuts and most flavorful pieces of meat I've ever had. On the side the potatoes were excellent, and grilled asparagus was served at its perfect level of ripeness and tasted amazing. It was so good we went back the next night!"

  • "It was perhaps "noisy" during dinner, but only because of OUR large group. The service was fabulous, from the hostess, to the bartender, to our fabulous waitress. The food was beautifully presented and deliciously yummy! Love the lighting in this place. Just an all around treat."

  • "The food at Prime46Forty was absolutely outstanding. Service was quick and each course was delicious. The conversation level was a little loud, but that was to be expected on Valentine's Day with so many diners. We would enjoy returning."

  • "The menu was shortened considerably for the holiday. A standard four course meal was offered at a set price per person. The courses were expertly prepared and presented, and nicely spaced so we didn't feel rushed to leave. The highlights were the on-bone lamb chops prepared french style. I had the filet prepared medium rare. It was perfectly cooked and placed with fingerling potatoes on a reduced sauce. It was all perfectly cooked, very tasty, and aesthetically appealing. If there was a downside, the atmosphere and decoration is a bit confusing. The walls still bear the decor from the Asian restaurant it replaced, although they attempted to cover it with various pieces of art. The food is a bit pricey, but it was a delicious experience."

  • "We had dinner with friends on a Sunday night. It was absolutely delicious. The service is exceptional. It has the feel of a very sophisticated restaurant. I really like the décor, it is unique and fun. I can see that the noise level could get high because of the hard surfaces and the ceiling; but on a Sunday night it was quiet and wonderful."

  • "Amazing menu from the starters thru the main entrees, and into the desserts. Knowledgeable staff explained the entrees with a thorough amount of detail on the sauces(marvelous) and the accompanying veggies and starches. Wine list seemed to offer a good range of choices, but we went on a Sunday evening and they offer a no corkage fee if you bring your own wine. Had a wonderful visit with the owner."

  • "My favorite new restaurant in Williamsburg! Our server was so attentive and pleasant!"

  • "This is a very nice high end restaurant that is "almost there". We were greeted by a friendly staff and the place was tastefully decorated and seemed very clean. I would have to take away a point or so for the noise level. The waiter immediately came to the table and took drink orders, however the bar was quite slow in filling the order---especially for what seemed like a slow night. The amuse bouche was outstanding as was the appetizer plate. The sea bass was perfectly cooked but rested on a bed of almost raw beans. The chicken dish my wife had was close to really good but the broth was way too salty. The chef has some great ideas, but needs to improve a little on technique."

  • "From the greeting at the door all the way to picking up our coats to leave, we were blown away. It was a ladies weekend away and this was the perfect place to celebrate. Excellent food service and knowledgeable staff (thanks Pagan), outstanding meals and great drinks made our night one to remember. It's worth the 60 minute drive to go back again soon."

  • "This is truly a fantastic addition to the Williamsburg, VA dining scene. Tucked away in a busy shopping mall, it offers a great menu of dishes expertly prepared and reasonably priced. The steaks are fabulous, the specials are creative and delicious and the wait staff is courteous and attentive. A must go to place for special occasions, wine and dine groups and foodies!"

  • "The lack of partitions means the noise level is a loud for the price of the restaurant. Otherwise, I would recommend it."

  • "I need to give this palce another shot after they've been open longer. At the time I went, they were only a couple of months old. The food was very good and makes it worth another shot. What wasn't good? Having a server who was 18 or 19 years old and no experience. He read from three different lists (cheeses, daily special and desserts) and had a difficulty talking in fluid sentences - he seemed genuinely scared. Fine dining restaurants should have the best trained and most experienced servers not using notes. The ceiling were high, the building large and nothing to buffer sound. I chose energetic in the rating but it was just loud. I could hear the conversations at other tables even when they whsipered."

  • "Visiting in Williamsburg for a conference and had the best dinner ever at Prime46forty. The decor and lighting are awesome and the food was absolutely delicious. Everything was the freshest from the grilled grouper to the crab cakes. In fact, the best crab cakes we have ever had. The place was packed which reflected a successful new dining venture for Williamsburg. Kudos to the chef- Tim Wesby- Gibson! Williamsburg has a new dining gem!"
