Diner Reviews
  • "I live in the neighborhood and it's really the only place here to get a great steak. Steaks are great quality. Service always super friendly and helpful. Love the sea salt tastings and the little salads that come with the steaks. Been here 3 times within the last 2 months, and visits 2 and 3 within the same week. Lol!"

  • "This place is a real find in the neighborhood for those who love steak and read wine. Can't say the neighborhood has any place of this quality to offer for this specific meal. Highly recommend. Food is great. Service is great."

  • "Prime and Beyond is our favorite place for intimate dinners as a couple or with a group of friends. The food, service, and overall experience is amazing every time. Our friends and colleagues that we've brought here seem to returned on their own, sometimes within a day or two. Bet you can't go just once!"

  • "We went to Prime & Beyond for an early dinner after a matinee to celebrate our son's 18th birthday with some big steaks. The food was fantastic. We had multiple starters and all were top notch, but the pork belly was particularly outstanding. And of course, the steaks were perfectly prepared with a large variety of cuts and preparations to choose from. But it was the service that made our night great. Our waiter was so engaging and helpful. It added an extra layer of fun to an already fun night out. Charming, charming place."

  • "This place is always on point. The service is incredible, and the steak is impeccable. A great spot to bring clients and friends and also go for date night. I've been here many times, and always have a fantastic experience. This is one of those places that is my secret spot, so I'm slightly hesitant to tell others about it. Prime and Beyond is beyond your expectations, they will go the extra distance to make your experience a special one. Enjoy"

  • "Was amazed that i never heard of this steakhouse before. service was good and the food was even better. came here on valentines day so they didn't have the normal full menu. but i was lucky that what i wanted was still there. dry aged porterhouse and lamb chops were fantastic. im no steak expert but ive had my share of meat, and this is possibly the best steak ive had."

  • "Great meat and friendly service highlight this east village steak house. Wet and dry aged steaks headline the menu and once they make it to your plate you will not be disappointed. The waiter will even show you your raw cuts of beef prior to them being cooked up and served. No hard liquor served but a great wine list and plenty of sake based cocktails. Restaurant decor was a bit lacking and with the exception of Kimchi burger accouterments, the fact that this place has Korean roots is somewhat lost . Definitely recommend this for groups, dates or just a night out to get a good steak."

  • "Had dinner the other night and the Korean flair was real interesting. They serve the steak with a scallion and anchovy salad which was real neat. Would definitely try this again."

  • "Interesting, delicious and exotic! On a snowy and cold Tuesday night, not very busy but good crowd - delicious food and presentable wine list."

  • "Bacon strips and spicy tacos for appetizers? Delicious. My son ordered a filet, his friend ordered the strip, and I ordered the Ribeye (all wet aged). Juicy, succulent, and you have to try it with the scallion salad. So yummy. Will definitely go back with the wife someday."

  • "Good food and friendly waitress but service was so bad to the point of being absurd. The time between my dinner being seved and my friends was 10 minutes and there was a similar lag with the dessert They waited until the food started coming to tell one of my friends that they were out of her order"

  • "It was great the first time and they topped it the second time! Server was adorable, attentive, and knew his meat. Preparation was fantastic. the blend of Korean and steak house flavors is divine. Quiet neighborhood street, great evening, great food and fantastic dining experience"

  • "If you are looking for great steaks and attentive service in congenial surroundings this is the place. While it's not inexpensive you'll find all the quality in the steaks of the higher-end steak houses while not breaking the bank. And on top of that, the house-made kimchi, scallions and pork bellies are a huge bonus."

  • "Went to celebrate an anniversary. The duck app was surprisingly good. Definitely didn't think they'd pay much attention to meats here other than their steaks. The small salads that came with our meats were good. If you can't handle spice, let them know. They all came with (what I assume is) the house dressing, which had a strong wasabi component. We ordered the wet-aged ribeye for 2 and the dry-aged strip for one. They were both cooked PERFECTLY. That was the most impressive thing to me. I preferred the dry-aged (it was medium rare but not bleeding!) but both steaks were well-marbled, had great mouth feel, and I loved the sea salt. The mashed potato side was delicious. The service was polite and professional."

  • "Second time there was as good as the first time! We had 2 filets and 2 burgers, all cooked to the point. The sea salt flakes on the steaks are just the icing on the cake! The side salad (with wasabi dressing) is as good as it gets"

  • "Went there and was underwhelmed from moment 1. The bacon was the best part of an otherwise underwhelming, I could cook it better at home meal."

  • "Terrific steak house, around for a few years but new to me. The owner/butcher is Korean and has added welcome elements of his native cuisine (such as a tasty scallion salad and excellent kimchi) the a classic steak menu. The meat is hand-selected and lovingly and carefully dry-aged (wet-aged too, but i didn't try that and am not sure what it is) - my bone-in rib eye was superb! some excellent gems on the wines list too. highly recommend!"

  • "Having dined at most of the city's premier steakhouses, this is my favorite. Their dry-aged steaks are consistently the most flavorful. This is not a typical NYC steakhouse - they have a minimal bar and beer and wine only. Because of their Korean influences, they have a different set of sides and apps. That can be a negative if you are part of a big group of traders, but is a huge positive if you are part of a more intimate gathering."

  • "The food is good. But the service is inconsistent. Sometimes attentive other times it seems like family members who work there like to sit around and laugh and forget their customers are waiting 30 minutes for their dinner."

  • "I went with a good friend to get dinner on NYE. Though it is run by Korean guys and there are some Korean options on the menu, the steaks are very much traditional. We ordered the Porterhouse for two, and they brought out the raw steak on a plat for us to see before they cooked it. We also ordered the brussels sprouts and french fries with truffle, both of which were great. They steak also comes with scallion salad and complimentary grilled vegetables, which are simple but good. The salad's dressing is quite light and flavorful and the freshness of the veggies balances the rich, heavy steak. Both the tenderloin and strip steak parts were excellent. We ordered medium, which I would highly recommend."

  • "consistently excellent experience which starts with fab steaks. But this place is more than a steakhouse, it is so much more!"

  • "Our party of six enjoyed a memorable steak feast on Christmas Eve. We went for the family plan and we're not disappointed. The salad and variety of small plates were fresh and tasty. The steaks that followed were succulent and desserts sampler was just right. Highly recommend."

  • "The steak and selection of steak at this restaurant is incredible. The Korean bent is neat, and the scallion salad they gave us on the house was spectacular. However, I think the scallion salad was an apology for the fact that the four of us spent the entire night literally shouting across our table to be heard. To be fair, I'm sure they don't have a 16-person birthday party in the restaurant every night, but the space did nothing to baffle the sound. But the steaks (and potatoes and brussels sprouts) are really really good."

  • "If you're a steak eater, you're probably not too interested in some wild and trendy fusion variations. This place does just enough, with the Korean accents, to add some fresh twists without compromising a great steak. They also have "wet-aged" steaks that were delicious."

  • "Second time in this low-key dare say undiscovered spot. Steaks get better every time. Everything is just outstanding. Came this time with the intention of trying something other than the steak but couldn't do it since the smells when one arrives is just intoxicatingly delicious. Will be back again next week. It’s become our go to steak house."

  • "Food and service was great! Got a tour of the beef room as well. Try the filet for three! Oh yes and the bacon!"
    Dined on 12/9/2013
  • "The food was delicious as usual. Wonderful lamb chops masterfully grilled. Great salad starter. Amazing ribeye. I like the fact that they show up the steak before it is prepared. I'd highly recommend Prime and beyond although there was a live jazz band in a relatively small space it did not ruin the meal. Rests need to really consider the dining experience when booking bands. This was not a lounge or bar. I wanted a good meal and yo catch up with friends. Hard to have dinner conversation over a wailing sax."

  • "A meatlovers paradise and definitely not a traditional stuffy steakhouse. Creative selection, excellent execution and world class presentation of well-known favorites. Cuts are out of this world. A must try and a definite return!"

  • "I'm not a huge steakhouse person, but Prime & Beyond managed to deliver the best steak I've ever had without all of the stuffiness of a traditional steakhouse. We each tried a different cut; the ribeye had incredible flavor, the filet was melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the strip had the perfect balance. Side-wise, the scallion salad and kimchi were both excellent. It was late on a Wednesday night, so I have no idea how loud the place gets, but it seems quite laid-back in a subterranean East Village kind of way. Beer and wine list were not expansive, but featured plenty of good options for multiple palettes."

  • "All around a good experience. Perhaps a bit pricey for the atmosphere it is in. Restaurant could use a bit more maintenance. We were seated in the front, perhaps the back by the kitchen is better? Seemed a little cramped up by the bar."
    Dined on 6/29/2013
  • "Excellent steak restaurant (Korean inspired). Choices of beef (and lamb and pork) are wide. You can't beat the steaks; they're cooked just perfectly. And they come with sides included. Appetizers also stunning: smoked bacon (real), etc. Good beer; moderate wine list. For all of this, the price is definitely a breath of fresh air! (3rd visit)"
