Executive Chef, Peter Chastain, changes the menu daily, using the freshest of nature's bounty - creating a dazzling mix of the finest ingredients, resulting in authentic Italian cuisine that is exquisitely pure and immaculately simple.
Of course, dining at PRIMA wouldn't be complete without a choice of over 1,600 wines from international "artisan" producers. With PRIMA VINI retail wine shop adjacent to the restaurant, guests may purchase their favorite vintage to take home, or special order wines through PRIMA VINI's wine clubs.

  • "Had a wonderful time at Prima's. The pot roast was the best I have ever had and my wife loved her pasta. Service was good. The only small complaint I have (and it may seem petty) is it was my birthday and they didn't bring me a small complimentary birthday dessert as all other restaurants seem to do. We hadn't been there in a long time but will go back soon."

  • "This was our first visit to Prima but it won't be our last! Everything about this evening was first class. The food and the service at Prima are as good as you will find anywhere in the Bay Area, but especially in the East Bay. We were lucky to be seated on the covered patio which made for a nice 'European-style' dining experience. The food was wonderful. We especially recommend the Linguini Alle Vongole which we split as a side dish along with our main course. The best we have ever eaten! The service was perfect: we were always taken care of but never rushed. The Valet parking was a nice bonus as parking is often difficult in Walnut Creek."

  • "Everything was good except we ordered an appetizer of various cured meats (delicious) which was priced at $16 on the menu. when the bill came it was $32, they said $16 was only for a half order???? if that was true it was very misleading and misrepresented. I would give a higher rating for the restaraunt but at $320 for 4 of us (including tax, tip, one drink apiece and a $25 corkage fee) everything needs to be perfect and feeling overcharged for an appetizer takes away from the rating. Its still a very nice place to have a good italian meal, my pork chop was outstanding, the fish (halibut) was great, I would pass on the veal as it was a bit to rich for my taste."

  • "We had not dined here for several years until last weekend, when we met our friends there for a celebration dinner. The food, service and wine were all 5 stars. If you enjoy meat, I highly recommend the Steak Florentine, split for two. Medium rare Porterhouse, marinated in olive oil and herbs, sliced off the bone, served on a bed of arugula. Absolutely delicious! My wife had the ravioli stuffed with beef short ribs in a savory sauce; she loved it, I had a taste and it was excellent. Pricey, especially for wine, but well worth it if you want a really special evening."

  • "Table was set and ready for our party of 5 and they accommodated the request to be near a wall and still had the European ambiance of the Italian outdoor feel. The waiter suggested some great aperitif's and the wine for the meal. Three of us tried the chef's recommended dinner and one tried the wonderful pork chop with the large Cesar salad and the waiter suggested a half order of Ravioli which were highly recommended. The other guest has a great salad and the pasta with clams. That guest also ordered the chocolate cake and the three had the olive oil/rosemary cake which was good and different very Italian in nature. If you are a beer drinker, there is only imported beer."

Prepare to spend a few extra minutes if you like wine with you meal, as the Wine List is voluminous. Service was available, but not in our way. PRIMA has been and remains one of Walnut Creek's true gems."

Although we were painfully late for our reservation, they quickly found us a great table without a blink of an eye. It was the start of another perfect night of service. The food was absolutely wonderful. From the warm olive & Proscuitto di San Daniele starters all the way through desert and espresso, every option we tried was wonderful. In the past, I've primarily experienced Prima as a private dining experience with my spouse, family or close friends. This time, as an important business dinner, the experience was perfect.   • "My boyfriend and I had dinner here for a second time and the experience was wonderful. The manager who greeted us when we came in the door was warm and welcoming as if inviting us into her home. We got a great little table next to the fireplace that was perfect. James was our waiter and now every time we go we will ask him. He was the perfect combination of friendly and professional. When we asked him to help us pick a wine based on our wine style he didn't just pick a good one he HIT IT OUT OF THE PARK!!!! He worked with us on every request and he was what made the experience go from enjoyable to heavenly. Of course the food also played a very important part to this and all of our dishes were wonderful without a wrong choice."

  • "sat on the outdoor patio which is enclosed but feels like you are outside....excellent service and wonderful greeting upon our arrival. Food was wonderful...my grilled calamari and prawns was just the right size portion and delicious....excellent if you are mindful of carbs and wheat. My friend had risotto with wild boar meat and he thoroughly enjoyed it. No dessert but I did have a wonderful cappuccino which was perfectly made. Then went next door to their outstanding wine shop and got the latest wine preserver that I have been hunting for! You will find the top wines here and very good service. All in all, a wonderful lunch and we would definitely go back. Try it!"

  • "Eaten at this lovely restaurant many times, and this was the least fulfilling. Food was awesome, the service slow. On a very slow Sunday, unacceptable to be left unattended. Got a curt "back in a minute" when he finally brought our long-ago- ordered wine. Took 10 minutes for him to return. I am only guessing but perhaps had some even more regular clients he was fawning over outside patio. Or, management went cheap on the number of servers though this didn't seem to be the case. Leave the "not worth the expense" taste in my mouth. We will not return, given other options. John"

It has to be one of the top 5 restaurants in the County. I would have to add that this all does not come without a price. It's a winner though. Zinman"

  • "We went as a family for a birthday celebration. We all enjoyed our food and the wine we selected but the group behind us was very loud and obnoxious. If we had realized sooner, we would have moved tables. Next time, we are going to sit in the back of the restaurant, not the front where you can see the road. But over all good meal!"

  • "This restaurant is way off our beaten track but worth the 1 hour drive to get there. Food is just marvelous and service is the best. the home made pasta, octopus salad and lamb was to die for. I would strongly recommend to anyone who loves good food. A bit pricey but I don't mind paying the price for a really excellent meal"

  • "Most of the restaurants in Walnut Creek are overrated and expensive. Prima was pricey but tasty and an overall good experience. We went as a group of 6 before a show at the Lesher Center and they didn't rush us, maintained a good distance but were responsive when we said we needed to high tail it out. I would go again and that is saying a lot!"

  • "Shall I be really picky? We sat in the little front room, which was way too noisy with several loud groups there. The wait staff were a bit too talkative, and does the water person and a different bread delivery person all have to try and be chatty? I like a wait staff that is in the background, not chatting me up. The salad was really good, but a bit too much dressing (inexcusable in a pricey place). We both had dishes with lemon in the sauces ( did not say it on menu), I guess they had a sale on lemons and had . My risotto had really tough mushrooms which weren't good. pork chop was just ok, but had a lot of meat on it. All in all it was good, but not great. Do like the large wine list."

The selection of cabernets by the glass was limited (only two, both from Napa), but the Hess was acceptable (somewhat pricey at $16). The swordfish was a savory delight, with roasted polenta and brussel sprouts. Service during the meal was excellent, until dessert/coffee time. It took a while to get waited on, and getting coffee refills was very slow. However, all in all it was a very good meal."
