  • "My wife and I love this place we feel at home with the staff and the food is outstanding "

  • "I find the food here to be really great. Very unique and creative flavored dishes with a Mexican flare. The atmosphere is nice with an interesting water view and pleasant outdoor seating. Service is consistently excellent. Favorite main dishes include Pollo Horneado, Fillete de Hierro. Favorite appetizer is Tostadas de Tinga. "

  • "The food was excellent, however the service was very slow, especially for check backs, refills, dessert, check, etc."

  • "We went to prickly pear on saturday night as a way to cap off a great day. After a short wait, we were able to sit outside and enjoy the views of lake norman, which were gorgeous as was the sunset that soon followed. The biggest downside of our trip was the lack of service - it appeared the restaurant was short staffed but we only got a half hearted apology at best. After ordering taking forever and the food being really slow in coming out we were disappointed in the overall experience despite the food tasting delicious (at that point we didn't quite have an appetite for it anymore). Additionally, at the end of our meal we weren't offered anything as an apology for the horrendous service we had received."

  • "First time there just moved into area first of year. Purchased groupon for this rest. Made res. for tabel with lake view. Never got it wasn't even asked if I wanted to wait at bar till one opened. Groupon included one appetizer which was awful. A globe of motzerella cheese and peppers added. . We were entitled to any dinner on menus. All dinners came with a SMALL salad however we were refused because we had a groupon. We ordered two margettas. when we received our bill. 36.00 for 2 margettas. I guess it was made with liquid gold. . The filet. Steak was full of veins and gristle. Very inferior for a price of $28.00. We will never go back. Will not return."

  • "So the food was perfect and great as always. Our server from this past experience was clueless. He was inattentive, short (borderline rude) and apathetic towards us guests. This is the only time we've had this experience, so this is a reflection of an individual not the restaurant."

  • "The taste of the food was excellent. The price for what we received at the table was another issue. Salsa portion was a few tablespoons for an order and more money for more salsa. I ordered the fajitas and while the taste of the meat was good the portions were small. My beautiful bride ordered the chicken which was tough and had a bone in it and a very small portion. The service was excellent."

  • "First rate Mexican restaurant. Excellent dishes and superb service."

  • "Went away from traditional Mexican type food to steak and shrimp and another order for a shrimp dish---both were excellent. Calamari appetizer was also very good."

  • "Prickly Pear offers unique dishes that are tasty, classy and will keep you coming back again & again! The camarones tropicales and the queso fundido with mushrooms -- out of this world. The Prickly Pear margarita - the best there is. Go ahead & get it giant size. The corn soup that precedes the meal - amazing (I only wish the bowls were bigger!) The ambiance & views from this waterfront restaurant are great, too, as well as the friendly service. The only drawback to this restaurant is that the menu never changes, but, then again, what they make is so delicious, anything they eliminate would be sorely missed!"

  • "I have gone to Prickly Pear numerous times over the years, both in its old location and its new. The food is always great, but the last few times I have gone - the service has been terrible. This past time we had a reservation for 7:30, didn't get seated until 8:10 and didn't finish dinner until after 9:30. I have had similar experiences the last 2 or 3 times I have gone. I was hoping the slow service was just an one-off occurrence the first time it happened, but now that it has happend several times in a a row I am concerned it isn't. I am hoping the service improves because the food is great and the location and atmosphere are great for those in the Lake Norman area area. I would still recommend it, but not if you are in a hurry."

  • "We enjoyed our meal at Prickly Pear. The appetizers were imaginative, and the lamb shank in mole for dinner was unbelievably flavorful and luscious. A choice of desserts was offered on a tray and all looked beautiful; we chose the flan and were very happy. The service was polite, but spotty, and a little slow delivering drinks. The view of the lake/river was a nice perk. This one is worth a try! We did have a little trouble with our reservation, since it apparently got cancelled by the restaurant accidentally. There was no problem seating us, however, since it was so early in the evening."

  • "The Prickly Pear certainly exceeded my expectations. My reservation was for Valentine's Day. When we first arrived, the place seemed to be in what looks like a condo next to the lake and was assumed it would be small. Inside, they have a lot of seating available (more than you would probably expect) without being too crowded. Low lighting with the aid of many windows to give a view of the lake makes it a romantic spot to enjoy an evening. Now to the food. I ordered a shrimp entree (Carbonares Mango-mojo) that was wonderful. The only criticism I had would be it was way too sweet with all the sauce it came with. All in all, the restaurant is unique, well priced, and certainly a place where I would return."

  • "The prickly pear was one if the best dining experiences ever. I requested a table by the window on my reservation and that was done for me. My meal was one of the best meals I've ever had and I'm known to be picky. There was a violinist that was awesome. Service was ok although I believe it was intended to not be bothersome to our dining experience. Only negative is that there were people from Mary Kay there bothering the tables about a contest now my wife is bein constantly called by these people. Should mention that the guy who made our guac table side was great. I've heard of that sort of thing but never experienced it myself. We will def be back with family and friends."

  • "Two of us did and it was wonderful! Trout with a cream sauce over grilled vegetables and a pesto rice. The beef fajitas sizzled and looked beautiful and fresh; the vegetables were still crisp but tender. Plus, it's always great to have your guacamole fixed fresh right next to the table, especially since you can have it tailored for the one person who doesn't like anything spicy."

  • "When I think Mexican, I think chips, guac, and cheesy yumminess. So, I was not overly impressed with my food.. especially making the trek to Mooresville from Charlotte. The Prickly Pear margaritas were tasty but weak. The shrimp fritters were soggy but had good flavor. The beef medallions were cooked perfectly with rice and spicy veggies. The tres leche dessert was ok but nothing special. That's my take away from the Queensfeast menu there -Ok but nothing special. I could have ordered this meal from most any restaurant. Guess I wanted more of Mexican culinary experience. If I'm in the area, however, I would go there again and try something from the regular menu. The staff was great and it's a lovely place."

  • "Another trip to The Prickly Pear. The food is always consistent and of higher quality. Good spice, served hot and with style. The pork dishes stand out and is the way to go. They have a few good wines by the glass and many good choices by the bottle."

  • "We went here with another couple and each got something different to try. Every dish was outstanding!! The portions were perfect - not too big or small. The entrees we ordered were the scallops, filet, crusted flat iron, and I forget the fourth. The crusted flat iron was definitely the biggest hit, but the others were right up there with it. We had the prickly pear margarita pitchers, also a must if you done here! The tres leches cake was ok, but the mango cheesecake was amazing. :) Over all, we can't WAIT to go back to this place! YUMM!!!!"

  • "Overall, our experience was good. What put us off was that we made reservations and had to wait 30 minutes to be seated. That in itself wouldn't have been so bad had the hosts/owner given us a wait time or said anything at all to us. They were not extremely welcoming (no smiles, no hello, no welcome to our restaurant). It was New Year's Eve, but surely they were prepared for that? We also watched as a party of 7 that did not have reservations was seated first. I know they didn't have a reservation because I heard the hostess say "no" to the waitress who requested the table. However, the waitress persisted, and they were seated. That made me pretty angry and may have colored the evening for me. We did get a good table."

  • "Gourmet Mexican at its finest with superb wait staff. Expect to pay more than your average Mexican but well worth it."

  • "When they were in the Old Church Food was excellant. Since moving to Lake location (been to this location 3 times) they seemed to have lost not only the Ambience, the food quality and taste has gone downhill!!! We have decided that was our last visit."
    Dined on 12/19/2013
  • "unique dishes, well prepared. we could have spent more time between courses, but one of our party chose the regular menu, and it was definitely better for him that we moved briskly. even though some of the items were novel, the child amongst us ate everything because the flavors were friendly, not obscure."
    Dined on 12/19/2013
  • "The menu selections are modern Mexican cuisine whatever that is. This is not a restaurant for a true Mexican cuisine. Prices are out of line also."
    Dined on 12/15/2013
  • "Service was very slow. They had several large parties and this may have been the issue with the service. Food was average and expensive...the others with us seemed to really enjoy their food"
    Dined on 12/14/2013
  • "The food was really good, the service was excellent, and with a table of six, we could still all hear each other and have a conversation. What a great experience!"
    Dined on 11/30/2013
  • "The service was very good, it was not very busy, but the waiter was very attentive. The food was good, the corn chowder is one of my faves and the Marbella is always good. The prickly pear margarita was also very good. I prefer the other location much more. It is what keeps us from going more often."
    Dined on 11/30/2013
  • "I only gave this a 3 start overall due to the fact that 8 of us went and 6 out of the 8 had margarita's and clearly they do not put much alcohol at all in them and load it with ice. They used to be known for having great margarita's and usually 2 was plenty but some of the ladies had 6 and it was clear there wasn't anything in the drinks. Also the fajita's need other vegetables other than onions. Stop skimping on the peppers, etc."

  • "We went here for me daughter's 17th birthday - she loves Mexican food. We had been to Prickly Pear at it's former location and now the one on Lake Norman. We preferred the former location - much better ambience. However, the food is of the same quality and very good "high-end" Mexican. The house-made guacamole and chips are outstanding. Also, we always get the corn chowder - very tasty. Some issues - we sat at a four-top table and it is very tight. Our waiter kept trying to remove dishes before we were done to make room for more dishes. Also, he seemed very confused about special requests - i.e. my younger daughter likes her food very plain (chicken, tortillas, and cheese) and it took us several tries to explain that is all she wanted."

  • "Rating was lower than before due to being seated beside a large probably twenty person group which raised the noise level pretty high. If offered booth or table, we will choose the table in the future as they are larger."

  • "Made a reservation which they received but didn't have a table still had to wait 30 minutes. Lots of wait staff wandering around took a long time for server to take our order. The food was very good."

  • "This was our second time dining at Prickly Pear and we were not disappointed. The service couldn't be any better and our entrees (the special, red snapper) were attractive and flavorful. We shall return!!!!!"

  • "We are repeated customers. LOVED the tres-leche cake. It was not served at freezing cold temperature (unlike other restaurants), which was a huge plus. Tilapia was a bit spicy for me, but our sons thought it was just right spiciness, and we all loved the cilantro rice. My husband's brisket was very tender with nice sauce. But the best part was the chips and salsa. Wish we can buy the chips in a bag. Wish the big screen TV was not there above the bar counter. It ruins the atmosphere."

  • "Nothing groundbreaking on the menu but lots of comfort. It's Mexican with a continental twist. They have a nice before 6, after 9 appetizer menu that is reminiscent of a tapas bar. Highlights: the Sangria was very tasty. Next time I'll try the white. The Bloody Mary I had there was one of the better ones I've had. That's coming from a Bloody Mary snob. Don't miss the Calamari steak. The squid they cut these from must be huge but they are very tender. This is the only place I've been to that serves them this way. Pricing falls in the middle, not cheap but reasonable. There is a nice balance between portion size and quality. I'm planning on trying the Sunday brunch next. Give this place a shot."
