  • "The habit of changing menues has produced winners in the last few years. The currnet lunch menue has some very fine dishes, developments of all time favorites. Well plated, inspired post nouvelle dishes and reasonable servings have promted me to take friends and family five times to lunch and brunch in the last two weeks. The incredibly friendly service, to be more precise, the entire floor end of the staff, make it a truly enjoyable occasion, whether for business or entertainment purpose. A very appropriate wine selection and cooks and chef willing to accommodate the occasional special request, (time permitting of course) make this restaurant unique in the best sense of that term."

  • "I picked Preston's from OT as the "nice" dinner after we settled my VT grad-student into her new apartment. We had a most enjoyable time. The pork tenderloin was exceptional (good) though the side-dish green beans were exceptional the other way. The jalepeno crab cakes were very interesting, good, but not great. The blue-cheese salad dressing served with the Romaine wedge was some of the best I ever recall. I don't like deviled eggs in general, but my wife said the one that came with my salad was wonderful. The wine list was a pleasant surprise including excellent Virginia selections. The entree prices are incredibly reasonable given the apparent effort put into the food. We will visit again."

  • "Asked for a table by a window for the view and least noise as am elderly guest had challenges hearing. Also picked a time when there would be few other guests. We arrived first and were placed by window. With the rest of the tables empty the next guests were seated next to us and asked that the curtains be drawn - ridiculous! Server rarely checked on us. Guests at next table were loud and should have been seated elsewhere."

  • "Nice variety of foods including shrimp, fried chicken with papaya, salads, hand carved roast beef and a wonderful assortment of desserts made this a good choice for our party when we did not want to wait a long time at a table after graduation at a restaurant that did not take reservations. The ballroom setting did make it seem a bit institutional/conference/cavernous rather than a smaller restaurant setting would have. Overall-a good setting for dinner on a very busy Blacksburg weekend. The live music was a nice touch-unfortunately we were seated in the hall-brighter with a window, but not accessable to music. "

  • "The food as usual was very good. Unfortunately all other categories fell short. The service was average at best with college students replacing the typical, professional staff. This alternate location was okay if you were attending a wedding or a seminar rather than a family gathering for Mother's Day! I will ask in the future if the brunch is being moved from Preston's dining area and if so, will not make reservations in the future. I was well aware that the per person cost was increased and was more than willing to pay the amount but I expected something extra for that added charge. I was surprised that each mother did not receive even a flower or a small gift! "

  • "We ate at Preston's prior to a concert at the Moss Art Center. They were offering a special for the concert and I had received an email advertising it. The concert menu included a wonderful arugula salad then a choice of 8 different main courses from Filet to Salmon to Short Ribs. We had the Filet and Short Rib which was perfectly done and with creative sides! Dessert was included as well. We were in and out in about an hour. Delicious and great wine! This will be our place before any concerts! All reasonably priced too! "

  • "Our office has dined at Preston's for Hoilday lunches as well as busienss meetings/lunches and never have we been disappointed. The food is excellent and the choices are varied. There has never been a time that the food has been below our expectations. The service at this visit was not up to its usual as we were seated by the hostess and the server took our drink order and brought our check but did not offer refills this is not the normal from our past dining experiences. Great and we will return whenever the opportunity arises."

  • "We had a 1:30 reservation. We were not seated until at least 2:15. There were plenty of open tables and food, there must not have been enough servers. They said they had a computer problem. The food was decent, but there was not much of a selection. Roasted lamb and pork both dry. Shrimp cocktail and quinoa salad both very good. Dessert seemed out of a box, not home made. Being Easter brunch they were set up in a large function room instead of the normal restaurant. I would not go again for Easter brunch."

  • "I made reservations for my family to have Easter brunch over a month ago. Most of the food items were very good and there was plenty of variety. The seating was horrible and made our experience less than enjoyable on a major family holiday. We were seated directly in front of a main access door to the kitchen, and had to endure the constant noise of wait staff going in and out of the kitchen directly in front of our table. The poor waitress told us that other guests had refused to be seated in her section as a result. The restaurant had moved all the seating to a large banquet room and made a very poor choice of placing the table we were sat. They should gone with a few less tables. This pretty much ruined our family experience."

The high ceilings and restaurant size made conversations "carry" easily since there were not many diners - another surprise since it was a Friday evening during high school Spring Break, and the hotel was sold out."

Although, we would appreciate a different variety of desserts, we have been enjoying this buffet since 3 years and we found almost the same desserts every time we go. Maybe we are too into sweets and we expect something different but pecan pie, apple pie, mini cheesecakes, cheese cake, a kind of hot bread and chcolate cake are constants. Wish you could change this variety and surprise us the same way as with the rest of the wonderful food. Suggestions: pastries, ice cream, chocolate truffles, lemon pie, crepes Thanks!"

  • "Open Table lists only this restaurant in Blacksburg. That worked fine for us for two reasons: (1) Preston's was the restaurant at the conference center/hotel where we were located -- so convenient, and (2) it's darn good food and service. There were two in our party. Over the three days there we tried several dishes: chicken thighs, steak, pork belly, mix of appetizers. All of the food was prepared well; the kitchen allowed us to substitute sides; the service was excellent; the wine list provided good choices. All in all, a solid restaurant in a college town."

  • "We arrived 40 minutes early for a 7;00 p.m. reservation. There appeared to be (not certain) open tables but the specific table reserved for our 4 people was busy. We were seated at that specific table at about 6:50. I just wondered if we were required to wait for that one specific table, maybe not, but if we were you might consider reviewing the policy. It was a busy night and our waiter did a good job. I"m sure the kitchen was really busy The Chicken was excellent/."
