Diner Reviews
  • "Place was very noisy. Hard to hear my dinner companion. The liver does not need all that gloppy sauce. Order it on the side. The pasta special, orchietta with chicken, was pedestrian. The price of the oysters -- $18 for six --- is obscene. All the parking slots were filled when we arrived at 6:30. The restaurant should be prepareds to offer alternative spots. "

  • "Dinner was delicious: juicy roast chicken, awesome tuna poke. Service was excellent. Servers were attentive but discreet. Every meal that I've had here has been spot on."

  • "We split a full rack of ribs, eagerly ate all we could and brought home enough for an ample lunch. The roast chicken was also a hit, as was the fried fish with tempura veggies. Wine list featured a blend of CA favorites and boutiques as well as some solid international choices. Wine prices were a tad excessive for my taste, but their glass prices were a very fair percentage of the bottle price - Here's what I mean: There are ~25 ounces in a bottle of wine, or about five 5-oz pours. So you'd think the bottle price divided by five would be the glass price, and at PSC, it is. You'd be surprised how rare that is. Tip - bring a group and split the dessert of beignets filled with chocolate accompanied by the creme anglais dipping sauce!"

  • "The food was fine, just fine. Cost was high- over $100 for 2 meatloaf dinners. We had 2 cocktails and a glass of wine. Still thought the cost was way too high for what we had."

  • "We met friends who stuck us for lunch and in spite of that we liked most of our dishes just not all. It is not cheap. Great spot in the Presido and on a warm day it is very nice."

  • "Presidio Social Club has changed their menu. A bit too eclectic for me. Servers and hostess seemed overwhelmed and snippy. Soup tasted good but served barely warm. Two people in our party ordered tea which consisted of hot water and a tea bag. Tea arrived half way thru the meal. Reserved thru open table two weeks in advance & requested a window table for friends from Norway's goodbye lunch. Were seated in back room with no ambiance or charm. Seems as tho making reservations directly with restaurant is better than open table for requests. Used to be a favorite place. Won't go back. Staff very pompous, food not so good, extremely noisy room! Noise level not energic, just shout to be heard due to acoustics."

  • "When you are in a unique place such as the Presidio You can't beat this special place for a great meal. I highly recommend this former military barracks turned retro vibe Eatery. The menu and food match the interesting environment. We enjoyed the Kale salad and chicken noodle soup along with the steak plate. All was well presented by excellent and friendly service.we will make it a point to return!"

  • "We had dinner there with friends because we were staying in the Presidio. The food was good (although the menu was a little limited) and the building was lovely. It would have been a very enjoyable dinner, but for the incredible noise level. We were in a smaller room - the bigger room might have been even worse. We had been warned by friends that it was noisy, but it was worse than we expected. It was a Friday night, so maybe it would be quieter at other times. If that doesn't bother you, then I would give it a try."

  • "The food is good enough. My friends and I love the setting in the Presidio and the vintage, historic, simple feel of the building, enhanced by heavy cotton napkins and solid tables and chairs. We go early and order from the appetizer menu to make it affordable. The full dinner entrees are a bit pricey with many options over $30. Our waitress was delightful: pleasant, prompt and accommodating, even when it was clear we wouldn't order dinner entrees. (We do leave a large tip, usually over 20%.) Especially good are the chicken soup and the kale salad as well as the grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup (listed as appetizers) and great fries. The ample free, nearby parking is another plus."

  • "I love what PSC can be on a good night -- great bar, friendly service, warm ambience. But people go there despite the food. The other night was an all-time low: meatballs that tasted like dog food, overdone broccolini and mac-and-cheese overloaded with some sort of overpowering blue cheese. We ended up just picking at our food. With a great chef and a new commitment to your food quality, PSC could be truly superb -- instead of a restaurant that frankly leans heavily on its location and friendly vibe to get by."

  • "The food was very tasty and the service impeccable. Lots of people celebrating birthdays and other events filled the restaurant with happy noise but the noise level made it hard to have a conversation."

  • "Should make serious acoustic remodeling changes to bring down the noise level when the restaurant is full of customers. Thank you"

  • "Professional, well run, excellent service, great breakfast breads/cinnamon rolls/beignets/donut holes. Diverse interesting menu & drink choices...something for everyone including non alcoholic. Made the birthday event special by bringing a dessert, no charge, honoring the birthday person. Kathi was our wait person and she was superb and attentive and made sure we were very well taken care of!"

  • "We go here a lot and find that the attitudes of the always changing hostesses vary a lot. Some are very friendly and try to accommodate our requests for seating, others are not friendly and seem to ignore our requests. Sometimes the service is excellent and other times we wait a long time for our food or it comes lukewarm. Still like going often. Fun easy place for us since we live in the Presidio."

  • "Our waitress made a point to return to our table and let us know about a special cheese tray, which we shared as an appetizer -- oh, three lovely Cowgirl Creamery cheese, nuts, jam, and some delicious house made toasts -- very special. Our grilled swordfish was perfectly, simply prepared, and my friend nearly licked his bowl with the osso bucco with polenta. We will return!"

  • "Had been there for a great burger at lunch; dinner not so successful. Great pork chop, however. The half of a duck had a delicious thigh, but the breast and leg were very dry. The "slaw" that came with it had no dressing on it, and the server said that was how it was supposed to be--really? Petrale sole delicious, except for a couple bites near the bone, where it hadn't been cleaned properly and was bitter. Delicious desserts were generously sized. Very expensive drinks and food. Would go back for burger."

  • "I'm a picky San Francisco diner who's been many times to Presidio Social Club. I'm pleased to say the food and service on my latest visit were really quite outstanding. I had swordfish steak that was perfectly cooked (nice and tender) and served on a bed of white beans and aromatic vegetables; my dinner companion had petrale sole that came whole and was expertly boned at the table by our server. As a first course we both had cauliflower soup, which might have been heated a bit more but was really quite good nonetheless."

  • "The menu continues to be limited and the value not favorable. We sometimes go because it is close but never really love it."

  • "Great location, easy parking but service was SLOW and food was terribly salty and I like salt. Definitely has gone down hill in the last year."

  • "the ginger tea was not good, not enough tea and more tea...should have added soda instead and made ginger ale or something"

  • "Hard to find good liver and onions - but they nailed it! Lemon cake was superb! Service wonderful! Little on the loud side - hard to carry on a pleasant conversation."

  • "I'm never disappointed when I eat at the Presidio Social Club. This time I tried the Fried Chicken Liver with Fried Pickles appetizer. Excellent! Then had my old stand by because I cannot get past it- the Chopped Kale Salad. The service was great, as per usual.and although I had the Strawberry Lemonade (made fresh) the array of beverages they offer is amazing."

  • "A great place to go on an easy Sunday. We found parking quickly in a neighboring lot. The food wasn't amazing, but very good - especially considering the prices. Would certainly go back."

  • "I've only ever been here for lunch, which has always been great. I can't speak to the dinner ambiance, but I bet the brunch experience is also really special and would highly recommend it. The food is of a consistent high quality and the location in the Presidio can't be beat."

  • "Very memorable. We decided to sit at the bar as we were 30 minutes early for our reservation. Bartender was attentive and able to make god recommendations. Excellent Champagne Cocktail, we'll balanced and good pour. We then indulged in the French Toast which was cooked perfectly and loved the spiced pecans. The other dish was the crab Louie with a light creamy dressing and was we'll balance with Romaine lettuce and finely chopped egg. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves."

  • "This is a popular place, because the setting is fun. But service and food were sub-par. I went for Sunday brunch and had chilaquiles, which was inedible."

  • "Food and service here very, very good. We went on a Saturday night. Place was full, therefore very noisy. Hard to carry on a conversation. If we went back we would go during the week - maybe not as crowded and noisy? Or maybe next time dine at the bar where you can talk without shouting to each other."

  • "It's nice when a restaurant you like keeps getting better and better. My wife was a professional chef, and I'm a winemaker and a serious foodie, and we are both continually impressed with jPresidio Social Club. Don't let the apparent simplicity of the menu deter you: in a city with a ton of good and great restaurants, PSC really stands out."

  • "The Presidio Social Club is my go to SF lunch place, especially when I am visiting Fort Mason. I have tried many items on their menu, and everything has been very delicious, especially the beignets. Don't miss the Vietnamese sandwich with the duck confit, totally yummy!"

  • "PSC is located just inside the Lombard St gate of The Presidio of San Francisco, former home of the US Sixth Army. The restaurant occupies an old enlisted men's barracks directly across the street from George Lucas' Industrial Light and Magic. And, magical the restaurant is. I'm a San Franciscan. This is is where we take CEOs and other important visiting firemen. It's unique. And wonderful. Full of bursting energy from the creative types from across the street, tempered by the ever serious suits. The menu is quirky, as is the wait staff. Exactly what the spot calls for."

  • "I am sorry to write this as we need good restaurants in the Presidio. But Social Club has the worst food and is so overpriced. A friend and I were in for lunch last week and we ordered the chicken lives appetizer and there were two of them with some yucky fried pickles and a couple of onion rings. Then we had the deviled eggs which were just awful. I had to send those back. We split a chicken sandwich and it was ok but the prices were so high for what you get. The atmosphere is fun and the restaurant light and airy. But I would not go back. This is the third time that I have not liked the food and found it really pricey for what you get. Have no plans to go back."

  • "I've eaten here many times and I will continue to do so. Their Menu, while limited in offerings, is fine for those who want to eat healthy...and those that don't. Their mixology here is stupendous. The staff is always friendly and attentive and I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone....And did I mention the scrumptious desserts? lol. Enjoy!"
