Preservation KitchenEverything Great but the NoiseThe appearance, menu options, food preparation and service all were great, but the noise level was terrible. We were in a medium size partially divided dining area with a party of six seated in a corner with a windows. They were loud and there was nothing soft in the room to absorb the noise. Even normal conversation would vibrate, but this was extreme.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMPotential For 5-StarsWe loved the service, loved the feel of the place but the tiny amount of accoutrements served with the duck rillette and cheese platter prevented us from giving the food 5-stars.
We had the boar ragu, the filet mignon, the red snapper, and the spare ribs. We all loved our dishes and there was plenty to share. So, it seems in direct opposition to the portions on the appetizer menu.
Finally, they need to turn the lights up just a smidge. I love ambience but we couldn't read the menu.
We will be back and I hope they fine tune things just a bit so they can get their 5-star review from us!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was very good ifThe food was very good if not excellent, seasonally fresh and well-prepared. We ordered three courses and the kitchen/staff timing was seamless. Our needs were met without being interrupted, perfect place for date night.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat date place! My husband, 8-year old daughter and I went on a "family date" here. The atmosphere was very interesting and comfortable. The food was amazing. My husband ordered a Filet Mignon that was so tender and flavorful you could almost cut it with your fork. I got the grilled salmon with asparagus, lemon cous cous and a strawberry/basil garnish. I didn't care for the garnish. the flavor didnt' seem to match the rest of the dish, but the fish was cooked very well and the cous cous was fantastic. They have a small, affordable children's menu, making the place kid-friendly if you can't find a sitter when you want to go out and have a special meal. The three of us had a wonderfully relaxing and romantic dinner. We will definitely be back!5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMLove the BrunchWe come here often for brunch, which is only on weekends. Reservations are needed or you might end up on the ale house side of the restaurant. The smoked duck omelet is fantastic. Good variety of eye opener cocktails.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMworth the waitLiving in the area we planned on eating here on several occasions but plans would fall through. So, I made reservations for our anniversary and held to them. We were sat next to a cozy corner window, the server was attentive and friendly, and the wine was excellent. My wife had the salmon and I had the duck, both were amazing. Although there was a large family seated near us, the volume in the dining room never became intrusive. We had a wonderful time and will definitely be back. The bar is also fairly large and looks like a good time we'll be checking out. Definitely worth the wait.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMA hidden treasure!I love Preservation Kitchen. Unique menu selections, outstanding flavors, great drinks, lovely location. Went there last week for my 15th anniversary last week; my husband and I truly enjoyed one of the best meals we've had.
We've had an amazing brunch (on Mother's Day, scheduled last minute and was a HUGE success with some really picky eaters - thank you for making ME look good.) I'm also a frequent lunch patron. All are great options, but dinner is.. wow.
The buildling was once the Mayor's residence (early 1900's, I believe?) - it's a beautiful brick building with wood all through the interior. It maintains that 'house' feel in a way that's very comfortable. The wood makes it noisy at times but it's very charming - worth it!5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMAbsolutely deliciousFrankly, this was just a fantastic meal. I took my girlfriend for her birthday, and we enjoyed everything we had. The smoked duck rillettes was a great starter, my girlfriend thoroughly enjoyed her red snapper and wine that paired brilliantly, and I absolutely loved the filet with wild mushroom risotto. Prices are what you would expect to pay for food of this caliber, and I couldn't have been happier with the service and quality.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat BrunchI went for brunch with my boyfriend and we were seated right away (we had reservations). He ordered Eggs Benedict (the best we've ever had) and I ordered the pancakes. The blueberry jam on the pancakes was a bit too tart, but I do have to give credit to Preservation Kitchen for amazing Bloody Mary's!!
I honestly would go back every Sunday for brunch and order Eggs Benedict and Bloody Mary's.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMother's Day @ Preservation KitchenCompletely delicious food and great atmosphere. It was a wonderful place to go for Mother's Day Brunch. The front dining area was super noisy though so I am glad that we were seated in on of the back rooms. Really neat to see the private dining rooms on the second floor as well! I may want to book those for a special event and try their dinner menu.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMHighway hideawayThis ended up being the perfect brunch spot for an early Mother's Day. The staff was great with our 15-month-old tagalong, the food was good, and the setting--a large old house set on a lovely property--was quite nice. Biggest drawback: it's right on the highway and the view from the front porch is of the parking lot. But it looks like they might be working on that (construction was evident)--I just hope they add some giant bamboo stands to cover the noise and look. Great service and a perfect setting--plus it was just the right distance for three people meeting from Whidbey, Seattle and Renton.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMmy favorite place to eatI love your restaurant - the service and food is always fantastic! All the food is fresh and tasty and the drinks are strong :)5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent restaurant for localsExcellent restaurant for locals and for our distant neighbors far away like Ballard, well worth the drive. Casually elegant dining room, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and a menu that offers the variety and cuisine that doesn't overwhelm but allows for the perfection and innovation of master chefs!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent all around! We triedExcellent all around! We tried this for the first time with a friend from out of town, so it was a gamble, but everything was perfect!! We will definately be returning!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMVery nice place, a littleVery nice place, a little tough to find if you don't know the area. Food was great and the wait staff was helpful and friendly. The Hostess was a little brusque. She seemed a little disinterested. Perhaps her youth was the reason!?4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMA truly different experience. The PK recently merged with their Alehouse property so is a bit of a hybrid. The downstairs Alehouse provides a great place to wait for your table, and is more welcoming than the old lounge area which always felt a little claustrophobic. The restaurant side (PK) is pretty much the same layout. In the past we've always eaten downstairs, which has been "energetic" to downright noisy. For our most recent visit, our party of four was seated in a private room upstairs. The upside was it was quiet and we could converse easily. The downside was we occasionally felt as if we'd been forgotten. But overall the service was good, and the food was as great as always. Take chances and select something you are not familiar with!4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMInteresting optionsWe liked it. The appetizers were interesting and tasty -especially the artichoke and feta cakes - very unusual. Salads were very good. The risotto served with the pork as excellent, but the pork was over-seasoned and tough. Room goes from quiet to noisy pretty quickly.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went for restaurant weekWe went for restaurant week and the portions were very generous. The setting was a super cute cottage. My favorite dish was the dark ceasar salad with kale and swiss chard instead of romaine. I had some of the red snapper and that was delicious with a dry rub. My pork loin with risotto had good flavor but the plating was not too appealing. I4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMOur meal was delicious andOur meal was delicious and Preservation Kitchen always has a great selection of local Washington wines which we enjoy! The only negative feedback I would mention is that the menu posted on the Seattle Restaurant week was out of date and when we visited the restaurant there was about 50% of the items listed through the restaurant week website. I had my heart set on scallops but ended up going with the seared pork, which was delicious and may have been better than the scallops!4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMvery friendly and good service.very friendly and good service. nice facility, very pleasant atmosphere and not too loud4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were there for Easter brunchWe were there for Easter brunch and ordered from their special holiday brunch menu. Everything was delicious and fresh. Very nice. Ambiance was nice, the restaurant is in an 100 year old home. Upstairs they offer private rooms. We like to try their dinners and happy hour.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMMy family of eight had EasterMy family of eight had Easter dinner here. The food was great, service was attentive. We will definitely go back another time.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent dandelion saladExcellent dandelion salad & Guinness lamb stew (it was St Patrick's Day). Table next to the fireplace was warm & cheerful on a raw March day.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMMy family and I enjoyed StMy family and I enjoyed St Patricks Day supper at the Preservation Kitch. The wait staff was friendly, courteous, and energetic. The atmosphere was "homey". The assortment of beers and ales was very nice. The valet service was excellent. We'll be back!3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMhad never been there beforehad never been there before and had not even noticed it tucked way back from the road.
Had decided to try them because of the Dine out Seattle and thier prefix menu. So glad we did. the whole experience was excellent and beyond our expectations. We will definitely be back!3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good. Sat us by niceVery good. Sat us by nice fireplace. Food was excellent. Server was great, but a little forgetful. Waited 15 minutes for check and had to go get it myself, but other than that, it was very good and I'll be back.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGem in the Neighborhood (Who Knew?!The food was great, very light and flavourful. Ambience is nice--if the could provide more of a sound barrier between dining room and the pub-side, it would be quieter and therefore more pleasant for dining. I would definitely return for dinner, special occasion, or with friends.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMLove, love, love the 3 forLove, love, love the 3 for $15 deals. I opted for a simple dish for lunch, because my friend and I had a lot of talking to do. The Thai penne pasta was simply wonderful. And the spinach salad was really amazingly good. Preservation Kitchen never fails to please. Thanks!3/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
