I'm usually overjoyed w/ the service & overall experience. It's one of the few places I bother to spend money eating out. This past time was a work group lunch. It started off well w/ manager taking appetizer order & bringing out an extra app (free) bc he overheard someone. After, I had to get up to get the waiter's (bartender) attention to order, and to request more water for the table. The meals all came out except mine & no one came to the table to inform me so I again got up to check what happened, he said he made a mistake & they were making me a salad & comping my meal. The manager apologized too. We were there on a Monday by 11:45 so the waiter should have been able to be more attentive. I'll still go back but it was dissapointing

The food was unusual and outstanding - blends of flavored with an end result that was truly delicious. Server and chef were totally and pleasantly accommodating of a (pain in the a**) "no garlic" need. Only the dessert was mediocre; the texture of the texture of the bottom of the chocolate Budino (I think that was the name) was strangely gritty. The space was very loud, but the food made up for all.

Another great meal at Prepkitchen, this time in Little Italy instead of Del Mar. Very good and creative craft cocktails and wine with our favorite small plates of blue cheese stuffed dates wrapped in bacon, and a plate of figs and burrata topped with prosciutto. For main courses I had pork schnitzel with a nice sauce of fennel puree and caramelized onions. My wife had roasted butternut squash soup and a roasted beet and spinach salad. My son and his wife each had the Pasta alla Norma with caramelized eggplant and burrata. (They said it was not the best dish they had had there, but still good). Our server was very knowledgeable about the craft cocktails and wines. She was attentive without being a bother. An enjoyable evening.

Went there to celebrate our anniversary because we wanted something casual and nothing fancy and this place definitely fit the bill for that. Been here a few times and as always, their food is amazing! I go into a food coma after finishing up at this place, it's so good. Ambiance-wise, it's definitely not romantic but is lively and seems like a hipster joint but there were all kinds of people there from all walks of life so you'll fit in whether you dress up fancy or go California casual :) Honestly, you can't go wrong with this place so give it a try!

Modern rustic décor and good variety on the menu. Energetic, positive atmosphere. Table receives carafe of cucumber water which is very tasty and refreshing. Appetizers called "small plates" and flatbreads and salads are big enough for two and delicious. However main course snapper was over-salted and tepid in temperature. Other mains were all good. Service varied throughout night. It was great in the beginning and through main course but we had to wait 10-15 min for plates to be cleared to receive dessert menus and 20 min for a check because the server was no where to be found.

food was very good, not outstanding in my opinion but definitely good. the issue I had was with the happy hour menu-confusing in that not everything on the menu is at happy hour prices although it's on the bar/happy hour menu. huh? and then our waitress was obviously new and didn't know that either. bottom line, I chose a wine that was apparently not included at the $5 happy hour price and they wanted to charge me $12! was not happy about that at all. forewarned, I would go and have happy hour there again but spoiled a perfectly good evening.

The waiter was very nice and attentive but the wait time for the food to arrive was horrendous. We were there for over an hour and 45 minutes. The place was pretty empty so I quite don't comprehend how come it took them so long to bring our food. The food was delicious and I'm so glad I came during restaurant week, but if I ever go back I know I'll have to spend at least two hours to eat. We were impressed with their flatbread appetizer. I had the fried chicken sandwich and it was delicious. Their dessert was very good and easy to share with someone else.

Service and food at Prepkitchen was outstanding all around. Our bar server went out of his way to make us comfortable and was still incredibly hospitable even after we decided we wanted to private table for dinner. He even brought us one of his favorite appetizers. Service was amazing, we were checked on constantly and the recommendations were spot on. Lively scene but still warm and inviting. Looking forward to many more dinners there, ahead.

It just happened to be restaurant week. That turned out to be a great deal to try all of the apps, and practically everyone got a different entree. Really great food, really great service. Steak Tartar completely melts in your mouth, Fig crud o fantastic, just all of the small bites were so creative and yummy. My little sis and brother think that our Mom makes the best braised short ribs anywhere, they are short rib snobs if you will. They were both so pleased. Great job in the kitchen and in the front. The Brother is a SF bay area foodie and very particular, and he was impressed.

Have never had a bad experience at Prep Kitchen. They change the menu just enough to keep it interesting while keeping the best dishes available all the time. It was restaurant week so they had a great deal of an appetizer, entree, and a dessert for just $35. And the whole menu was available for the restaurant week which was cool. The bartenders are knowledgable not just with their own restaurant but on the whole restaurant scene in San Diego. Just a good spot to have in Little Italy.

Enjoyed this place the other night for Restaurant Week, an they let you choose from the regular menu an Appetizer, Entree an Dessert. The place has got a good vibe to it, but somehow we were placed in a back room with the curtain drawn and a little kid who was playing a distracting game with the Volume up. So it was a little difficult to talk and visit, but we made the best of it Why they take a little kid to Restuarant Week, who would rather not be there, I don't know. Anyway, enjoyed the Service very much and the food was different but good. I understand their Menu is always changing, so will enjoy trying it another time also.

Went there on a busy Saturday night. The Scottish Salmon was the best salmon I've ever had. Food portions were just right, not too much but enough to leave me satisfied. It was a couple minutes after we were seated that the waitress showed up. A little longer than I expected but not horrible. I was pleasantly surprised when the manager came over to our table and apologized and offered to pay for the drinks we had ordered.

Picked my {adult} son at the airport and immediately hit PK-LI and again, simply amazing -- everything you'd expect! I had the smoked salmon bennie, and didn't get past that to realize it was served on hashbrowns!! It's the perfect vehicle to drench up hollandaise! Son had a burger {fried egg included} & fries which he devoured; we all shared the fries. Wife had Huevos Rancheros and I can't tell you how it was, she wouldn't share a bite. :-) The wife LOVES their fresh made lemonade & they always have a great well rounded beer selection. The staff are always happy, welcoming & attentive. PK-LI isn't a gem, it's a DIAMOND and any chance we get to swing by from north county we're there!

We own a vacation condo in downtown at Treo, so we walked to our reservation at Prep Kitchen. Seat right away which was great. The table was a bit small but was ok. My husband ordered the half chicken which he really liked and I ordered a fig and burrata salad. My burrata was good but my fig was as they called it" pounded" , where all you see was skin. I asked the manager about it and he was wonderful about it and took care of it. Bravo to their management!

I've eaten at PrepKitchen in Little Italy 6 or 7 times. The first 4 times I loved it. The last two times have been very inconsistent. The flatbread was undercooked, soggy on the bottom with too much cheese and no flavor. The salads were boring and underseasoned. Some menu items were very good but hard to say if they'll be the same next time. Service too, for the second time running, was slow and unfriendly. Our server took forever and seemed disinterested in helping us. The prices seem higher than I last recall too. I think I'll head for La Jolla or Del Mar's locations next. Reviews to follow...
