It just happened to be restaurant week. That turned out to be a great deal to try all of the apps, and practically everyone got a different entree. Really great food, really great service. Steak Tartar completely melts in your mouth, Fig crud o fantastic, just all of the small bites were so creative and yummy. My little sis and brother think that our Mom makes the best braised short ribs anywhere, they are short rib snobs if you will. They were both so pleased. Great job in the kitchen and in the front. The Brother is a SF bay area foodie and very particular, and he was impressed.

Have never had a bad experience at Prep Kitchen. They change the menu just enough to keep it interesting while keeping the best dishes available all the time. It was restaurant week so they had a great deal of an appetizer, entree, and a dessert for just $35. And the whole menu was available for the restaurant week which was cool. The bartenders are knowledgable not just with their own restaurant but on the whole restaurant scene in San Diego. Just a good spot to have in Little Italy.

Went there on a busy Saturday night. The Scottish Salmon was the best salmon I've ever had. Food portions were just right, not too much but enough to leave me satisfied. It was a couple minutes after we were seated that the waitress showed up. A little longer than I expected but not horrible. I was pleasantly surprised when the manager came over to our table and apologized and offered to pay for the drinks we had ordered.

Enjoyed an early dinner with a long time friend and while we caught up, our server was attentive, but did not rush our evening in any way, allowing us to enjoy each other's company and ordering later on. They also honored my request of a corner table which I thought was terrific!

Picked my {adult} son at the airport and immediately hit PK-LI and again, simply amazing -- everything you'd expect! I had the smoked salmon bennie, and didn't get past that to realize it was served on hashbrowns!! It's the perfect vehicle to drench up hollandaise! Son had a burger {fried egg included} & fries which he devoured; we all shared the fries. Wife had Huevos Rancheros and I can't tell you how it was, she wouldn't share a bite. :-) The wife LOVES their fresh made lemonade & they always have a great well rounded beer selection. The staff are always happy, welcoming & attentive. PK-LI isn't a gem, it's a DIAMOND and any chance we get to swing by from north county we're there!

This place was great, had a party of 3 and we did small plates and shared 1 main dish. Service was great, food was delicious, over all experience was good. Went for a birthday and they did not bring out a desert for the birthday boy, they were aware when the reservations were made that their was a birthday being celebrated. I would recommend this restaurant and would go back.

We own a vacation condo in downtown at Treo, so we walked to our reservation at Prep Kitchen. Seat right away which was great. The table was a bit small but was ok. My husband ordered the half chicken which he really liked and I ordered a fig and burrata salad. My burrata was good but my fig was as they called it" pounded" , where all you see was skin. I asked the manager about it and he was wonderful about it and took care of it. Bravo to their management!

I've eaten at PrepKitchen in Little Italy 6 or 7 times. The first 4 times I loved it. The last two times have been very inconsistent. The flatbread was undercooked, soggy on the bottom with too much cheese and no flavor. The salads were boring and underseasoned. Some menu items were very good but hard to say if they'll be the same next time. Service too, for the second time running, was slow and unfriendly. Our server took forever and seemed disinterested in helping us. The prices seem higher than I last recall too. I think I'll head for La Jolla or Del Mar's locations next. Reviews to follow...

We go to the Del Mar Prep Kitchen pretty regularly-we think it's great. This is our second time at the Prep Kitchen in Little Italy and the second time we have had Claire as our server. There is no one better! She always knows what to suggest-she knows what you want better than you do. The service in general is great-all staff appear to enjoy working there. And the food is incredibly good. Makes dining a great experience. We also talked to the manager of their new restaurant in La Jolla and look forward to going there.

I went here with a long time friend. Service was a bit uneven at the start (need a minute tended to stretch into 5+), but our server was quite good with us. Starters were very strong. The bacon wrapped dates are outstanding as was the ahi crudo (the former one for heavy appetites; the latter for those wanting a light touch). My friend's short ribs were outstanding. Unfortunately, the tagliatelle was a bit thick and so was grainy in its texture. The bologonese that accompanied it was delicious Looks like a good wine list. I started with a glass of Albariño and finished with Pape Rocks (a California Rhone style blend--try it if you like Chateauneuf de Pape).

Our return to the Prep Kitchen was as enjoyable as the initial experience. The food was tasty and the service was both pleasant and appropriately efficient. The decor is interesting, maybe shabby chic or maybe funky. Either way it is unique and pleasant. We took advantage of the "early bird" special, a three course meal with your order in before 6:30 for $35. My mixed green salad with a variety of cheese, nuts and fruit in it was excellent and my wife enjoyed the tomato and watermelon gazpacho. Roast chicken and salmon main courses were also good. The desserts, chocolate budino with salted caramel ice cream and a stone fruit tart were excellent.

The food was good, but not necessarily a good value. Yes, pasta made fresh, but $21 for a plate of pasta and meat sauce (bolognese) is not a draw for me. The corkage fee is excessive - $20. Why? Because I only bring very special wines to a restaurant; ones that 99% of restaurants would not be able to obtain or would not have available. It is not to avoid paying for wine. Besides, we consumed both cocktails and champagne here. Location is challenging on a weekend. Little Italy is woefully lacking in available parking. Take a taxi, Uber, or Lyft.

had a great meal. starters were fun and delicious, unexpected combinations that were wonderful. main course was the short rib and it conjured up childhood memories of comfort food that mom used to make but with a foodie touch. cocktails were fun and fresh, beer selection was out of the ordinary craft styles. desert was the bread pudding and i'm glad we decided to splurge the calories for it.

Outstanding food combinations and flavors. Salads were balanced and interesting, and the deserts are described as sin, past venial I suspect they were so good. Gelato that was close to the best we had in Rome. And they worked hard to accommodate my wife's food allergies, but with fixed menus choices were limited there. Overall, a wonderful experience we hope to have again in the future. Prices were reasonable for what we received.

We ate here on a hot and humid Saturday night in San Diego. It was a bit warm in the restaurant but the windows were open so it wasn't stifling. Thankfully, the waitress set down some refreshing lemon-cucumber water...yes spa water! Apparently, some people aren't fans but it really hit the spot. I ordered two, cold appetizers: Suzie's Farm Greens & Stone Fruit Salad which had House-Made Ricotta, Pancetta, Candied Pecans & Burnt Peach Vinaigrette and Albacore Crudo with Nepitella & Thyme Compressed Watermelon, Lemon, Micro Celery & Chili Oil. Both were heavenly! Flavors were subtle at first, then exploded on my tongue. I chased it down with a white sangria which was good but the red sangria was outstanding! I highly recommend this place.

Best darn tuna melt I have had in my entire life. I am not exaggerating. My date and I split our dishes and I also had the meatloaf sandwich. The meatloaf sandwich was terrific, but we both agreed that the tuna was amazing. Good microbrew selection. The hostess did an excellent job and was friendly and checked in our our table periodically which helped to make up for the fact that our server wasn't exactly charismatic, nor the best.

My business dinner was handled expertly by the wait staff and the kitchen prepared up some delicious dishes. We were seated promptly, our waitress was backed up by hosts, hostess and buss boys superbly. Drinks were prompt, appetizers were given plenty of time to leisurely consume without the feeling of being rushed. The homemade charcuterie was full of delightful tastes and textures. Dinner only came out after we were ready to eat (not forced out because it was ready). The Yellowfin fish special was delicious and cooked to perfection as was the flat-iron steak. Short ribs melted. Overall the experience and restaurant was appreciated both by myself and my dinner guests. Kudos overall

Prepkitchen Little Italy is a restaurant others should look up to. Aside from the apparently ever-changing menu with well-conceived dishes prepared to perfection, their level of customer service it a cut above the rest. You don't see this high level of service anymore; their attention to detail, friendliness, providing additional dishes on the house as a "welcome" dish and as an apology for the main course taking longer than they would like. Suffice it to say we were well taken care of, and left happy and impressed. Well done, Prepkitchen. Well done, indeed.

.. But based on all the recommendations I received, chose Prep Kitchen for a dinner out with friends.. And what a great choice it was! We were lucky enough to get there before 6:30pm so not only did we get the advantage of the meters ending their tolls, but we got in on the early prix-fit for $35 of appetizer, entree & dessert. The tempura beans & stuffed dates wrapped in bacon rocked. All the food choices were great, along w/ the sangria.. The chocolate dessert w/Carmel salted gelato was a great ending.. And SUPERB service. I would definitely eat here again.
