I was impressed with the food and the service. Our great server, Kyle, recommended the stuffed calamari appetizer which was superb. My entree was the halibut and my husband had the duck and both were excellent. Our visit was early..5:15pm and by 6pm the place was packed.

  • Our table didn't get as good
    OpenTable Diner Since 2012

Our table didn't get as good of service as others around us (we didn't get bread/water right away, nor did we get information about the restaurant) presumably because I'm under 21 and can't order $80 worth of wine. Regardless, I had to come here two days in a row because I fell in love with the beet salad! Lunchtime pain is are delicious and served with home cooked chips while the dinner pastas are both rich and light and feel as fresh as the herb garden at every window. The design is incredibly unique and charming; it's a fun place to be!

Service was excellent! Hostesses were accomodating and friendly! Food was delicious! Variety was fun! More details on location: this one is larger with fewer wall barriers so the noise travels and accumulates more easily. Although it didn't feel too crowded with tables (in the room along the windows), aesthetically it looked to crowded, and some kind of divide would be a plus for the eye. I also arrived early (645pm) when most tables were empty, so that could have been why it was so noticeable. In a more populated hours, I'd say imagine Searsucker, BUT not on steroids, and without the overflowing bar scene (I see Prepkitchen's differences as a good thing.)

The whole entire experience was horrific from start to finish. The waitress, the food, the management all left something to be desired. The space was among the most fun, high-energy spots in San Diego and looks amazing. The food was fine, mthough nothing all that special -- all,of our meals were very salty. Don't worry about all the comments about noise -- had no problems. If you don't like a lively crowd, though, this is not your place. Great bar, choice of beers on tap. Service was amazing with someone attending to us every few minutes - though not in an obtrusive way. Great addition to San Diego. I'll be going back!

We were late for our reservation and the hostess was amazingly helpful and friendly and able to accommodate our tardiness. This was a wonderful start to our dinner. The restaurant was delicious. We got there with just a couple of minutes left on happy hour and got a carafe of delicious mango sangria. The food was amazing as well and super fresh. You could tell that it was farm fresh, just like they said.

Good shrimp bisque and flatbread appetizers gave way to rubbery chicken and squishy halibut. Service was indifferent and sloppy. After 40 minute wait for entrees, server seemed intent on clearing table. Peanut butter cookies and gooey brownies for desert - juvenile comfort food at best. Not recommended.

Food was good. I had been there a few times prior and this was my least favorite experience. Alot of it had to do with our server. He just came across "too cool for school." I asked for a cocktail that i ordered to be on the rocks instead of up & he gave me a disapproving look and said,"Our mixologists would prefer not to, but I can ask to see if they will make this a special request." He also described my friend's cocktail wish & when my friend asked for a different bourbon to be used he told us "No, we don't alter our drinks." Throughout the entire dining experience, I felt like our server had a bit of a snobby attitude. Instead of the great food/beverages - his attitude is what I'll remember. What ever happened to customer service?

I was very disappointed by the food. I tasted all three meals served at my table and I wouldn't order any of them againt. Unfortunately, I'll be back again in a couple of weeks for a group dinner. If it was up to me, I wouldn't go back. I will say though that the service was great - friendly and attentive but not overbearing. The ambiance was also good.

A buddy and I decided to grab some dinner and I saw that the Prep Kitchen had opened up in Little Italy so we decided to give it a try. First off, what a scene, it reminded of me of Japengo's on a Thursday night back in the day. We had a table that was by the bar and we both sat in the booth and watched the show, the place was packed. We ordered a bunch of appetizers; we had the Beet, Tangerine & Goat Cheese Salad, with Watercress, Almonds & Balsamic. The Local Mussels & Frites in a white Wine, Garlic, & Aioli broth. The flatbread of the day, and scallop ceviche and each dish was excellent. What honestly helped the most was our server Colin, he told us a little history about the restaurant and how happy he is working for them.

Sunday night 9:45p reservation (not needed) put us right on the cusp of the late night happy hour, so we ordered the pork belly off the main menu and then several selections from the bar/tapas menu. We were happy to get an Oskar Blues Mama's Little Yella Pilsner at all, and for $5 it was all the better. The tapas were solid. We especially liked the beet salad with goat cheese and walnuts, the bacon wrapped dates, and catalan sizzlin' shrimp. What I will most remember is ordering the pork rillette and being told that it was sold out, but then the bartender (who was our server) came back with a plate of it and said that someone from the kitchen overheard us ordering it and wanted us to have it. And he comped the dish besides. Well played.

Good, fun place that was typically priced for a casual popular place. The alcohol portion of the bill seemed expensive for a Bar/Restaurant hot spot. The one drink per person and a bottle of wine at our table brought the total bill up to the price of an upscale restaurant.

The space, decor, and ambiance were even better than before. The size is much more substantial so it fits larger parties. We decided to try Prepkitchen out after having a very nice dinner at Whisknladle. Overall, the brunch at Prepkitchen was very good. It seemed like a hip restaurant with "green" type decor. The restaurant was playing older music, probably from the 60's or 70's, which was ok, but not what I was expecting. The brunch was not very crowded at all, there were 4 total tables in use while we dined. We pigged out since this was our last nice restaurnt on our trip. My wife had a scone, free coffee and the chilaquiles. All were good. I had the pork belly tacos and the parmesan sausage biscuits and gravy. The pork belly tacos were ok, but were lacking pork flavor surprisingly. The biscuits and gravy were the 2nd best I have had (Lucky's in CLE)

Slow and uninspired service. Waitress didn't know the menu and had a very bad energy about her. Had a sidecar cocktail as an aperitif and it was made wrong which for me is a huge ding because that is such a classic cocktail and should be made right! Ordered a 130$ bottle of wine and had to pour most of it myself. I have been in the service industry for 15 years so I know a little about service and at prep kitchen it fell flat.

Great care was taken, to give us a nice spot near the bar with a great view. Although, the restaurant was a bit loud the service was Great! The atmosphere is comfortable casual cool. The server explained the restaurants food concept and was quite attentive. The cocktails were modern and intriguing. The food was very well prepared, clean simple flavors, yet a hearty delicious meal. The true gem was the cava sent to our table, Thanks

This place is definitely great when it comes to ambiance and mood. It was a great spot to try with my boyfriend. We ordered a bottle of wine and talked for a couple hours. But, I did not feel like I got much food for the price. The meal comes with no accompanying sides. I literally got a piece of chicken. I just wish we would have known to order an appetizer first. Also, the food came out in 10 minutes. It was so fast, but inconvenient as we had ordered wine. The food quality was great and the service was really top notch.

It is awesome to have all these new restaurants opening in Little Italy. I live at the Bayside building on Pacific Hwy and Ash, and the ability to walk to a great dinner is the best. The entire staff is friendly, supportive and responsive. The food was also great--had the swordfish and ravioli. My only complaint is the bank of seats I was in, which are directly behind the bar, would benefit from a plexiglass kind of wall over the framing between these seats and the bar--the noise from the bar made conversation difficult at the table.
