A word from Prepkitchen - La Jolla
When it first opened in 2009, Prepkitchen La Jolla was the first in what would become a string of casual, farm-to-table style restaurants from the minds behind Whisknladle restaurant in La Jolla. Inspired by cooks for cooks, Prepkitchen serves artisanal, farm-to-table cuisine at an everyday-eats price at all three of its locations - La Jolla, Del Mar & in San Diego’s historic Little Italy.

Guests will enjoy a casual, intimate dining experience whether seated inside Prepkitchen’s quaint dining room or outside under a covered, candlelit patio. Prepkitchen serves lunch and dinner daily, as well as breakfast and brunch menus on the weekend, which includes happy hour priced mimosas and $1 coffee.

  • "Prekitchen La Jolla and all of their restaurants are just simply Fabulous! Everything is wonderful and flawless execution. Nice job everyone!"

  • "Great restaurant and incredible food. The staff was very attentive and ambience very good. Would definitely eat here again next time in town."

  • "The location is nice, with a breeze and some umbrella coverage of the outside space. All staff were welcoming and helpful. The menu is fresh and the food was tasty. Occasionally we were waiting for a while, but if we flagged someone down, they were flagable and the response was immediate. The one downside was that while the tables weren't full, the kitchen seemed backed up. We got one pancake that looked perfect on the outside, but was raw inside. Getting a replacement took a while, and while the middle was perfect, the outside was overdone. So it seems the griddle was too hot. We had a lovely breakfast to finish up our trip to San Diego."

  • "We are from out of town and with Father's Day and graduation weekend we wanted to find somewhere that took reservations for brunch. The food was good. We don't usually eat very big meals but the portions were not very big and the fruit bowl I thought we could share was very small. The food had good flavor."

  • "When we walked over the restaurant, I thought we were at some outdoor sandwich shop. It was definitely a surprise to find the food very tasty and all home grown or organic. This is a beer and wine restaurant but they have great choices. I would go back again. Their Beet Salad was delicious and so was the roasted Chicken."

  • "Went for lunch. Arugula/white bean salad fresh and flavorful. Great basil dressing. Fish tacos crispy and cabbage added a nice tang. Wait staff and host very friendly and accommodating All in all a great casual dining experience with an enticing dinner menu. "

  • "Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and helped my mom and I pick our entrees that were veg friendly. My dad and uncle got the WNL burger and absolutely loved it. Pleases both veg and omnis. Wish the beer list was a little more robust, only 750mL bottles for some of the less hoppy/IPA styles. But the place is small so I don't expect them to carry a huge variety. "

  • "Perfection from beginning to end! We visited for Mothers Day dinner and my mom couldn't have been happier. Prep Kitchen is one of my favorite restaurants in San Diego and it didn't disappoint. I decided to make the reservations for 5:15pm so we were able to enjoy their happy hour that included $5 sangria and tapas. By doing so our dinner felt more like a multi course meal. It was so enjoyable to sit on their new deck patio and fully enjoy the sunny San Diego day. The service was amazing as always and I can not wait to return for lunch, brunch, dinner tapas & wine or any reason at all. Thanks PKLJ!"

  • "The service is spectacular the outdoor seating fantastic! The food was excellent. I don't usually go to a restaurant I haven't been to when I am taking a client to lunch. But they exceeded my expectations from food, outdoor dining to customer service. Thank you."

  • "Prepkitchen was an relaxed spot to have my 30th Birthday dinner date with my boyfriend. We requested a table on their outdoor, covered patio, which was excellent. The tables are a bit close together because they are a pretty popular spot, but we didn't mind. I believe our server's name was Mathias & he was AWESOME! Get the Shrimp Salpicon as an appetizer - good for 2 to share. I also had them do a 1/2 Caeser salad to start, which had amazing dressing too. We fought over who had the better dish - Porter Braised Short Rib or Taglitelle Bolognese - the chefs really know what they're doing!! Great wine list too! And you HAVE to get the Warm Chocolate Budino for dessert. All around a new favorite!"

  • "We visited Torrey Pines from North Carolina on business and were delighted to find this outstanding locals' spot for dinner with my daughter and her boyfriend. Although we had reservations for 7:15, we were not seated until 7:45, after checking in 15 minutes early. The restaurant is small, but very intimate and perfect for date-nite or a private dinner. The farm to table food was absolutely excellent, the servers were highly attentive, the ambiance was very sweet and quaint. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would highly recommend Prepkitchen to visitors. Sorry locals, but this one will be hard for you to keep a secret."

  • "Prep kitchen just expanded their patio seating. I was in tshirt and shorts, but didnt find it cold at all due to the heat lamps. Food was great, their menu changes/rotates from time to time. Got the mussels, pork belly, and short ribs and were good portions for two people to share. Mussels came with this sweet sauce/soup mixure that didnt make the mussels taste salty at all. Short ribs were easy to cut into. Pork belly had crispy skin on the outside but nice chewy texture on the inside. Cant decide on my favorite dish. "

  • "Everything we had was delicious - the mussels (yum!), salads, burger, pasta. Went to celebrate a birthday and it was the perfect spot. A little pricey but great quality."

  • "Great food and incredible service. Originally had made reservations, but showed up early, and they were able to get us in within 10 minutes anyway. Very attentive waitstaff and very accommodating (we were seated in the sun and they were able to move us). Food is always great, but was very impressed by their service this time around"

  • "Loved PrepKitchen! My parents are in town this weekend and it's hard to find restaurants for everyone because my mom and I love everything, but my dad can't eat any sugar or dairy and he doesn't like seafood. Came to PrepKitchen and everyone absolutely loved everything they had. We had a pitcher of sangria, the artichokes and mussels for appetizers, the WNL burger and a couple Mary's Chickens. I would recommend everything we had. It was all very delicious. Our server was also very knowledgeable and super friendly. All of it made for one of the best dining experiences my parents had while there were here in San Diego."

  • "We both had the fresh catch which was mahi & it was delicious! The mussel appetizer was just OK & the beet salad was very good but a little pricey. We loved the intimate atmosphere & will definitely go back!"

  • "The food is always wonderful altho we prefer the Brick chicken to Mary's. The service was spotty: our server did not tell us about any specials…we only found out about them when we heard him tell the adjacent table….maybe an off night. The new patio is a terrific addition."

  • "This was grabbing a quick bite with a coworker after a long day in OC and San Diego. Service was great frenulum was nice and tight so not too many decisions. Had the bacon wrapped dates and the bolognese.....tasty!"

  • "I took my girlfriend here for her birthday dinner. As dined at Whiskenladel before, I was expecting the same vibrant flavors that the owners of the restaurants provide. And I was not disappointed with the quality of the food served. The flavors were fresh and delicious. The only negatives included the limited bar menu with serving only beer or wine, no cocktails. In addition, the seating was a bit crammed as we sat outside on the patio. The server was very nice; however she seem to be a distraction in my conversation with my girlfriend. I would come here again for a lunch and beer spot, but not for a special dinner experience like I was hoping."

  • "So, Prepkitchen isn't a bad place to eat. It's a bit tiny, and in a weird location, but it's cute and adorable. Their brunch is -amazing-. Probably the best French Toast I've had in my life. The desserts are always tasty as well. The problem I have with Prepkitchen is their entrees. They aren't ever bad, but for the pricing of the menu, I never feel like I get my money's worth. Their burger, which by all accounts is a great burger, is not however an $18 burger. And I feel like that the several times I've gone there for a meal. This feeling that, it's good, but the pricing is off from what I seem to be eating. At least for lunch/dinner. Sadly, I'll probably be going elsewhere if it's not for brunch."

  • "We had brunch there on Saturday and it was great! The host and all of the servers were very nice and accommodating, especially with the stroller and high chair I needed. There is not a lot of space, but it's not a big deal. I wish I lived in San Diego... I would go there every weekend for breakfast!"

  • "Great little restaurant with excellent food. Chicken under a brick is yummy, lamb shank was tender, wonderfully sauced. Waiter staff was knowledgeable and engaging as was the chef. Would go back and would try their 2 other locations."

  • "Went there a second time and they have proven again that they have delicious food. Besides the fact that the servers are very knowledgeable, they look after you all the time. We shared two appetizers and both were amazing. Our main courses were delicious and unfortunately wee didn't have room for dessert but they were looking very good too."

  • "After a week of top-level dining in La Jolla, my girlfriend and I ventured to Prepkitchen for our final dinner of our vacation. What a treat! We were so intrigued by the menu -- we shared 3 appetizers (Vietnamese wings, stuffed calamari, and shrimp w/ fermented chili paste) and split one entree (WNL Burger). All dishes were phenomenal. We sat outside in the heated area on a chilly night -- we were comfortable, impressed, and full when we left. Great concept, perfect execution."

  • "This is our second time here I have had the Chicken both times and it is tender and scrumptious it is a healthy portion. We also ordered the homemade pasta and it was to die for rich and full of flavor. We have had all the salads and they are super as well. Prepkitchen in La Jolla was the best kept secret but the word is out make a reservation because there was a waiting list when we left. Love this palce"

  • "Warm indoor and outdoor seating. We reserved a table on OpenTable and only had a very brief wait upon arrival. Despite the fact that we in no way felt inconvenienced, the restaurant brought us two free appetizers. Amazing service. The food was fantastic as well. Tre bacon wrapped dates and the potatoes are a must try appetizer."

  • "It is a small & intimate outdoor dining option. Service is great, food is outstanding & the good wine/beer options. Overall options are limited, but that is what gives it the charm of a neighborhood gem. Great for on the go or even to go. Consistently great!"

  • "This is a great little kitchen with maybe 20 tables indoors and out. The outdoor patio abuts a brightly lit juice bar and is across from a VONS parking lot, so it's perhaps not the most romantic location. But the food is fantastic and the price is right. Definite recommend."

  • "Self serve coffee for $1 .... great deal. Blueberry and banana pancakes with toasted sweet sliced almonds... fluffy and melts in your mouth! Real crab in the crab eggs Benedict. Mussels with pomme frites... let's just say perfectly cooked and tender mussels; and you can taste the sweet wine that was cooked with. The biscuit and gravy was savory and the fried green tomato was a nice touch to keep you going back for more. Well... needless to say... we ordered all these meals for 3 people and we ate it all. I did make a reservation and I'm glad I did because this place gets busy around 11:15am."

  • "A pasta dish was full of red peppers - not explained in menue. When expressed to waitress, she offered no remedy other than I will tell the chef. This was a terrible decision as we are in the neighborhood and she lost oportunity for repeat visitors. Beet salad great except dressing too heavy, ask for it on the side."
