Chef Chris Olsen masterfully creates stunning Contemporary New American cuisine with global influences and changes our menu seasonally to reflect the time and freshest ingredients at hand.   • "I was hoping for a little less activity in the dining room: babies, a large party, two anniversary celebrations. The service was really good, so that made up for it, and we really enjoyed the food. I recommend the lamb "enchiladas" -- delicious!"

  • "Two of us had eaten here quite a few years ago and felt the quality had declined, so we were delighted to experience a meal that was excellent for everyone. Two of us had the catch of the day, wild-caught salmon, and it was served precisely as requested, cooked just enough not to be raw inside. Another had the sea scallops with watercress puree, which were exquisite, and the fourth had the Niman ranch sirloin and pronounced it excellent. Portions were ample but not excessive. My husband pronounced his martini, an important indicator for him, perfect. We will be back soon."

  • "I always forget how good Prairie Star is. The menu has a relatively modest set of choices that doesn't change a lot, and no one dish seems to stand out above the others. But everything there is done amazingly well. Steak and grilled asparagus were fantastic, and I don't even like asparagus! It's not particularly cheap ($130 for 4 of us), but definitely worth the trip whenever possible. I don't understand why this place isn't always packed to the gills--it must the the slightly out-of-the-way location. Since Casa Vieja closed, I'd have to give this restaurant the nod as the best place to eat in the Albuquerque area, at least anywhere north of Vernon's. We will happily be back."

  • "This was our "go to" celebration restaurant when we lived here the first time (1981-92). Since we've returned we find that this is still an excellent choice for a celebration. The food is aways excellent, service good, great view, good wine--what else could you want? I gave it only 4 stars because there are a couple of other restaurants in town now where the food is a little better, but I don't think anyone would be disappointed in selecting this restaurant. There is also a lovely patio overlooking the golf course with a view of the Sandias that is a wonderful spot for pre dinner drinks if the weather cooperates."

  • "We came a bit early for our reservation and were seated immediately at a cozy table by the window. The view was great. Watched hummingbirds flit about the three feeders and a pair of Canadian geese escorting their 2 young over the grounds. The meal was exceptional. The sirloin steak benedict was exquisite; melted in your mouth like a fine piece of tenderloin. The trout was light, flaky, and tastefully seasoned. The price for appetizer, salad, entree and dessert was more than reasonable on the prix fix menu. There was not a bite taken that wasn't top-notch. Kudos to the Chef and the very highest compliments to the wait staff. We just loved it and will always return. "

The special I had was something from a cafeteria with breades and fried trout. The grilled chicken was a better choice. The waiter was inattentive and did not clean the table while we were deciding on desert. We may try again but not for a while . "

  • "It's always a pleasure dining at Prairie Star. Saturday night before Mother's Day was especially good with the best prepared trout I've ever had. Enjoyed delicious brussels sprouts on the side, and there was no problem with my request to substitute sauteed spinach for potatoes. The signature romaine salad is always the perfect starter. With the stunning view of the Sandia Mountains reflecting sunset and great cuisine, Prairie Star is a wonderful place to dine for dinner. "

  • "Wouldn't have gone to Prairie Star had I not wanted to hear the band playing on the patio. And I won't go back without some similar incentive. Nothing special to report in the food I had. The first glass of wine was on the verge of turning. But there is a picture postcard view of the Sandia Mountains looking across the golf course and the bosque."

  • "Started with the foie gras french toast which was very good. Mummy had the NM Lamb "Enchiladas". The were also quite good. Lamb confit cooked in red chile. All the flavors blended well you could still tell you were eating lamb. Instead of a corn tortilla, the lamb was stacked between two crepes. I had a wagyu burger. Could have used a bit more maytag blue cheese, but the burger was cooked to a medium-rare perfection. Juicy and nicely seared on the outside. Dessert was the turtle cheesecake as Mum loves caramel. She also had a glass of Malbec which she enjoyed as recommended by our waiter. Nice view of the mountains in the early evening. Quite a few humming birds playing/eating/squabbling near the feeder on the patio. We dined inside. "

  • "This is one of our favorite places to dine but it didn't measure up to our visits in the past. We invited visitors from Florida who had fond memories of Prairie Star when they lived here. Unfortunately, all but one of the dishes were sub par - two of the steaks were badly overcooked. While both the manager and server were very helpful and apologetic, our dining experience was ruined as the others had to wait while our food was redone."

  • "Good selection on the menu and the food was really good and well displayed on the plate. The salmon was done just right - not dry at all. Great selection of wines with descriptions to aid in choice. Service was excellent and timed perfectly - we didn't have to rush eating at all. Water glasses kept filled without having to request more water. Always a great place to go as the atmosphere is so peaceful and the view is great. Will definitely go back again and have also invited friends to try it out."
