Great food and service. Seated at window table with excellent view, but right where the kitchen door was and it was quite distracting at times. Would definitely have given a 5 star rating if not sitting by kitchen. Overall this is a wonderful opportunity to taste fantastic food prepared by Chef Chris Olsen and have wine included. Will definitely try Wine and Dine again.

Based on the good reviews of the Prairie Star we went there during the Albuquerque Balloon Festia. Even considering that it was a Sunday night, we were surprised to see only 6 other guests in the place. Perhaps that should have told us something. We started with the Mu Shu Pork Cheeks flavored with Hoisin BBQ. The Hoisin was flavorful, so flavorful that we couldn’t taste the pork. The waitress told us that the $29 Sea Scallops Parisienne might not be filling. And she didn’t lie. For the money we got 3, count them, 3 medium sized scallops, prepared in a rather off-handed manner. We also ordered the $26 Lamb Confit Enchilada. It came swimming in a dish of oily red chile-prune jus. We didn’t hang around for dessert.

The ambience and the view of the Sandias at sundown through the large windows was outstanding. Service was very competent, though not especially friendly. The "New Mexico strip steak" included numerous tough tendons. The asparagus, though fat and juicy in appearance, was hard. If the food is more important than the appearance, there are choices with better value in nearby Bernalillo.

We were married at Prairie Star and took our kids last weekend for an anniversary dinner. The upside of Prairie Star: you cannot beat that view. Alas, that's about all there is to compliment. The food was mediocre, at best. The wait staff was nice but clearly had no clue abut the wine list and there were lots of little goofs (like bringing the butter but not the bread) and our server seemed like he was perhaps still half-asleep. But most disappointing of all was the food. The meals served at our wedding 10 years ago to a crowd of 200 were tastier and fresher than what we received for our table of four. Overall, just really disappointing. Next time, we'll go for just a cocktail and the sunset, then head elsewhere for dinner.

All tasted very good. We have never had bad food, wine or service at the Prairie Star and will be visiting them again soon.

Last time we were here, everything was terrific: food, service, table at the window. Due to that great experience, we decided to take in the view of the Rio Grande trees AND the Sandia Mtns from the bar. Good! Early service- good..... after that -- did we insult someone? Everything -"have to request", finally asked Stone, busser. for more coffee. Waiter and others (incl a manager-type) seemed to purposely ignore us -- serving tables nearby but ignoring us. Not so sure about recommendation?!? Re wine: a local winery "table wine" -- right on the bottle. Not a rave review for highly touted Wednesday "dine for 2 including bottle of wine" Bottom line: food good both times. Service great last time; now - good/beginning -- poor/end.

Recommended for those who choose eateries with emphasis on the wine list. It is a good place to entertain those guests you would like to impress - if you pick time near sunset and insist on window seating. Expensive. Decent variety of menu items. Working to compete with Bien Shur. Succeeds with price and minimal menu. Misses with view and ambiance, comfort of seating, and sense of being part of a room full of diners rather than privately dining with my group. Service was excellent. That actually was the most outstanding part of the experience. Food was alright, but salads, overall, were voted best item on menu by our group- in flavor, serving size, value for your money.

After dining at Prairie Star for nearly a decade, we found that the food and service had fallen off during our last few visits. As a result, we decided to "take a break" and haven't returned in nearly a year. But recently, we heard that some changes had been made, so we thought why not give PS another try. We're so glad that we did. The new menu (a tough choice ... everything sounded terrific), the service (the wait staff was pleasant, knowledgeable and efficient), the food (all four different entrees were delicious), along with the always lovely views of the Sandia Mountains, convinced all of us that we will return again soon. So glad to see that the Prairie Star is back and even better.

When we were presented with a much abbreviated wine list with nothing on it from France, it was very concerning. And only when we asked was the former, full list brought. The message that the cellar was to be reduced was not a welcome one, and the absence of the long/time somalier even more concerning. A notable wine list has long been Prairie Star's strength. If that's going away, it will be a significant loss.

Overall we had a nice dining experience for our anniversary. The ambiance was top-notch. Service was very friendly albeit a little on the slow side. The food overall was fair. I ordered a sirloin that had a taste I did not like and sent it back. The waiter was nice enough to take it off my bill without my asking. The mushroom soup and salad before the meal was not great, and I would not order either again. Overall, we love coming here because of the atmosphere and will be back again sometime in the future, but the food has taken a turn for the worse.

We opted to sit in the bar since the dining room isn't anything special and so we would be the only patrons. Service was good (had to be, once again we were the only customers). Food was okay. $29 for 3 scallops and a half a cup of rice won't bring me back. My husband ordered a burger, no pink. There was definitely some pink but he said it was pretty good nonetheless. Like the title, dinner was just okay....

Picked this place for a 32 year anniversary dinner and drove an hr from where we live to go there. Dinner portions are small and pathetic. It's all about presentation at this place, not quality or quantity. Yes everything looked real pretty but looked way better than it tasted. 4 scallops on a bed of rice with some greens and green sauce that tasted like I was eating my fresh cut lawn. My wife's filet was sized for a child. More like a medallion than a filet. Spent $149 (including tip) and left hungry and disappointed. The two entre's, 2 salads, 2 margaritas, one beer and desert is what we paid $149 for. Won't ever be back and won't refer to anyone I like.

Problems with service. The waitress did not write down our orders and there were several mistakes. She brought us utensils for the soup appetizer when we ordered calamari. Our entrées were cross served. The most serious was the steak I ordered medium rare came medium well done. It was a good piece of meat for the price, but it wasn't cooked to order. Service has slipped since our previous visits. Orders should be written down. It needs work.

This was the third time we've celebrated our anniversary at Prairie Star and this was one of the more impressive times. The food was excellent - the elk medallions were outstanding and the lamb enchiladas were exceptionally flavorful. The breads were also addictive. A table-for-two at the window is the way to go if you want to enjoy the view the most. From what we could tell, there were at least three couples celebrating anniversaries the same evening.

The setting is very nice. The service was spectacular. Our server was very attentive and gracious, as was another gentlemen - perhaps the manager. Most of the food was very good - we had the brie appetizer and the beet salad. Both were great. We shared the salmon and it was ok - not great. A bit salty. Was cooked well though. All in all, we would definitely go back.

Prairie Star Restaurant is our favorite restaurant. We are long time residents in Albuquerque and have known the history of the Brooks home and the transformation into our favorite place. While we do not dine out frequently Prairie Star is our place of choice. I think the only time we did not celebrate our anniversary in the past 13 years was when our anniversary fell on a Monday when you were closed. Our favorite server is Dennis. He is an accomplished server and we ask to be at his station especially on our anniversary. We had a lovely time, the food was outstanding and the service was impeccable.

We were a party of four. It had been a number of years since we had dined at the restaurant -- it is a 45-minute drive from where we live. However, the Wednesday night 3-course dinner intrigued us and, oh, we were so pleased. The food was to perfection, the wait staff was attentive but not interferring, and the views overlooking the golf course toward the Sandias were spectacular. A lovely evening and well worth the drive.
