Diner Reviews
  • "Met a friend for dinner here. I was surprised by the inside because the restaraunt is in an office park. It was very pleasant. The food was outstanding. Had tuna and halibut and it was delicious. Ordered a Cosmo and it wasn't great but they had a decent wine list. Service was good. Will definitley return. "

  • "It was so noisy in this restaurant it was difficult to enjoy dinner."

  • "We had a wonderful experience at Prairie Grass! The service was great and so was the food! We started with the vegetarian spring rolls. They were very interesting and tasty. Our table orderd some salads and soup. Next we ordered our main courses. A few of us ordered whitefish.... prepared wonderfully and delicious. Someone ordered the crispy chicken which was great too!! We tried many desserts including a delicious chocolate cake, mango ice cream, some sort of carmel pie all yummy!! What a wonderful evening!!"

  • "A typical Saturday nite that was pretty noisy, and the waiter was efficient w/o personality. The backroom is nothing special. NEVER MIND ALL THAT, SARAH`S FOOD IS GREAT!"

  • "I was underwhelmed. I have been here before and enjoyed it more. Not sure why. Great art work on the walls however!"

  • "Prairie Grass is my go to restaurant and there is a reason. The food is consistently excellent, the service is always good, and there aren't that many excellent choices on the North Shore. I have eaten here for lunch, brunch and dinner, and the menu is outstanding for all meals."

  • "We had a great dinner at prairie grass- I had fish and chips, minus the chips but really enjoyed the fish and the asian slaw. the squash soup was delicious. My husband had tilapia nut crusted special that he really enjoyed. My son had a caesar salad - he said it tasted pretty good but the the romaine wasn't the deep green that is so good. Service was very good. The best dish of the table seemed to be the brussel sprouts roasted with bacon. that was a real hit. I think $13 for a glass of Kim Crawford is pretty steep. I wish I didn't like it so much. Our bill for four was $130 before tip, mostly due to three glasses of wine. I think we'll go back, but will watch what we order so we have a reasonable tab."

  • "This restaurant always provides great food. The selections are diverse. The wine list is quite good, and there are craft beers for the beer drinkers. Our server was perfect. We didn't feel rushed, but never needed anything. A good restaurant on the North Shore."

  • "The food was incredible. The chocolate lava or "muk muk" cake was one of the best I've ever tried, each person in the 4-person party loved their meal from the fresh French bread with butter to the wine and dessert. The brussels sprouts appetizer with basil remoulade (we ordered it without bacon) was UNBELIEVABLE and now tops the list of my favorite food items ever. The vegetable soup and pea shoot salad were good (although the salad came with a few little dirt clods, I assume from uprooting the shoots), the Shepherd's Pie was spectacular, the wine was great, and both the cherry pie and lava cake were amazing. Get the Brussels sprouts."

  • "Dined on a Thursday evening with my manager (visiting from England). We split crispy Brussel sprouts (w/bacon and grated Parm) and the Three Sisters Garden pea shoot salad (solid!). Entrees: crispy half-duck, served with butternut squash mash and poached pears and the roasted char served with Winter slaw and potato mash. Fish was perfectly seasoned and cooked, with the acidic, crunchy slaw served as a nice foil to the fish (potato mash texture was a bit gummy for my liking, but well-seasoned). Food was great, but came out of the kitchen slowly (an hour from seating to entree service, with time between sprouts, then salad, then dinner). LOVE the support for local purveyors (Artic char excepted). We will return!"

  • "Prairie Grass is our go-to place for good food and good times. The menu is creative and well executed. We ordered the brussel sprouts appetizer. Delicious. The salads were fresh and ample and the entrees as expected. Service was exceptional."

  • "Comfortable atmosphere, very nice server who made excellent recommendations. Marinated skirt steak very good, and multiple vegetarian options. Really liked crime brûlée and it is not something I normally like, usually too sweet but Prarie Grass Cafe's version is very good."

  • "We have been to Prairie Grass many times. On this occasion, it was to celebrate a family birthday. The food was good, but the service was less than expected and the dining room was noisier than we have ever experienced previously. So noisy that conversation at a table for four was difficult. I am willing to concede that this may have been an atypical experience, because we have always been satisfied with everything on previous visits."

  • "Always a great dining experience. Terrific peeky toe crabcake appetizer. Outstanding fish quality and flavor. Attentive server. Great dining experience a bit north of Chicago. A lot of families here. Daily specials are always creative. The ambiance is friendly, like dining with good friends. This restaurant deserves Michelin attention."

  • "Dinner was awful. We couldn't get a waiter. We waited 15 mins with menus and water and the wait staff just walked past our table. Finally we asked the bus boy for a waiter and the one who'd walked around the table, helped with the olive oil and pepper (which didn't work) came over and said "I'll be happy to help you. I just didn't know who had this table". Our problem? Apparently. Never going back. Food was cold, tasteless and under cooked on one order of fish. AWFUL"

  • "Prairie Grass is not in the most attractive location, tucked in next to an office building, but once you're inside it's a vibrant atmosphere. The food is gourmet level at very reasonable prices and the service is dependable. It's a little loud, as most restaurants are these days, but overall it's a solid experience. I spent over two hours there with a friend and we weren't hurried to leave in the slightest."

  • "Went because they had a few creative items on the menu, but mostly because they had lamb moussaka -- how great is that? Had the house pate, which was delicious and had just the right accompaniments. The moussaka was rich and satisfying, just great. Nothing special on the ambiance by I myself don't really care, I'm all about the food. Still highly recommend!"

  • "Love the concept behind green city market and would like to see on the Prairie Grass menu which foods are certified organic, non-GMO, and grass fed, etc. I love that Prairie Grass cooks with fresh ingredients and tells us which farmers grow them. Pleasant ambience inside. The service is attentive and accommodating. The crunchy brussels sprout appetizer was the favorite for all of us - five stars for the sprouts. My burger that came with a lovely thick slice of tomato - didn't like the fishy tasting sauce on it. The pasta dish was OK, but we had to ask for parmesan to sprinkle on top - I thought that was odd. Lovely coleslaw with apples....it was good, but the cabbage wasn't shredded finely enough and the apple slices were too big."

  • "You can always depend on prairie grass having good & excellent food. The sticky toffee cake is the best desert on the North Shore."

  • "The whitefish that is served is delicious and it couldn't be fresher unless the restaurant was on the banks of Lake Superior. the salad greens were so sweet and delicious that we didn't need any dressing to inhance the taste. Prairie Grass staff is very accommodating to food issues and that is greatly appreciated. We had a wonderful dinner."

  • "As we've eaten here before I can say some aspects were very good and some not so. My wife and I each had the beet salad and felt the presentation left much to be desired. It was pretty much large pieces of red and yellow beets with a sprinkling of cheese and very little dressing and no greens. I order the salmon and it came cook to a medium well, which is a waste of a good piece of fish. They couldn't replace it as they had run out so I got the skirt steak, which was excellent. My wife had the halibut which she felt was okay. Service was very good, but the room was so loud it was difficult to hear each other. The last time we ate here it was excellent so feel they need to be more consistent."

  • "I want to thank the excellent Prairie Grass Cafe for donating a $50 gift certificate to the Kalo Heritage Foundation in Park Ridge----at their recent fundraiser I was delighted to win the silent auction for the gift certificate, and my husband and I tried this wonderful restaurant for the first time last Saturday. It won't be the last! I am already planning to bring a friend for her birthday brunch next month :) The steak was fork tender, the vegetables were exquisite, and the desserts looked delicious...but after a meal that included an amazing appetizer pizza and two helpings of light, crisp bread, dessert will have to wait for our next visit!"
