A word from Posto
Inspired to create a casual Italian restaurant in their own neighborhood, the culinary team behind Washington, DC’s award-winning Ristorante Tosca opened the doors to Posto, “a modern Italian place to meet,” in December 2008. It is located in a beautiful, century-old building (which at one time was a car dealership!) on the newly re-energized 14th St. NW – right next door to The Studio Theater, and just steps away from P St. and its hubbub of activity. As a proud new addition to the Logan Circle neighborhood, Posto serves classic and modern Italian dishes, and is the perfect place to drop in for a cocktail and a quick bite, or a multi-course meal shared with friends. A custom-built, wood-burning oven located in the back of the dining room entices guests with the smells of just-baked Neapolitan style pizzas and focaccia. Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Most restaurants should be measured on the food they serve and here at Posto the food was great. As it was a stormy night and on a Tuesday, the Restaurant appeared to be under-staff. Not withstand a short wait for our food, it was as good as it looked. The staff from the host to the manager to the wait staff were most accommodating - which made the evening that more pleasant. The restaurant also has a corkage policy - which is always a plus for my wife, I and our friends as we are all collectors and enjoy our wines with meals (as opposed to hit and miss with a Restaurant's selections). For a Washington DC Restaurant, the prices were quite reasonable. Without question we and our friends will return . "

  • "My friends and I really enjoyed our meal at Posto. The only downfall was the check. The food was delicious but a bit overpriced on both the food and beverage-side for what you actually receive. Overall, the service was great, food was great, and we were in walking distance of Lincoln Theater where we were seeing a show afterwards. We would return but perhaps be a bit more savvy on the budget end."

  • "The food is very good. The cavatelli and lamb meat balls is one of my favorites. The rock fish was excellent........but the small portion left me hungry! I would still go back, howevert!"

  • "our 10th or 11th dinner here - we were less enthralled this time: the Burrata salad was miniscule (barely enough for one person so don't even think of sharing it), but the pastas were excellent. Posto used to have a parking lot in the same block -- but you'll never find a parking space in the popular 14th Street corridor; the neighborhood has almost NO public garages, so getting there by car is a hassle. More importantly, there are now at least a handful of other superb Italian restaurants downtown (not really true when Posto opened) and given the uninteresting decor, EXCESSIVE noise level and sometimes indifferent or rushed service of Posto...it's frankly not as relatively attractive as it used to be. Still good but no longer exceptional."

  • "We went back within a week of our prior visit. It's a great neighborhood restaurant where the wait staff are attentive and the food is delicious. The portions are more than adequate and the drinks are well made. We'll be back."

  • "Had eaten at Tosca and was excited to try Posto. Had great Italian comfort food on a miserable winter night. Great relaxed atmosphere. Love the developing 14th Street corridor."

  • "The food was wonderful and was very authentic Italian. We went with our two kids and they loved the food but there is not a kids menu. This was not an issue because they have delicious pizza and several types of pasta. My son could not get enough of the salami and procuitto cotto appetizers. I had the gnocchi which absolutely melt in your mouth!! My husband had the short ribs over spinach and mashed potatoes which was to die for!! We will absolutely come back when we visit Washington again. It is a bit on the pricey side but well worth it."

  • "With friends from Seattle, I enjoyed the ambiance very much on Friday as well as a very successful meal for all of us with ample portions too. Auguri."

  • "A perfect place to return to over and over. Great food, relaxed atmosphere but modern and airy. No airs of pretension, perfectly fair prices. If I lived in this particular neighborhood I'd probably be at Posto once a week! Foodies who aren't interested in pretentious food would be very, very happy here."

  • "Food was great and came out quickly. Service was slow, took a while to be greeted so we were ready to order food and wine by the time someone came over. First appetizer (burrata - awesome) came out before the wine... Food followed soon after which was delicious (a pasta dish and a pizza). All in all, a great meal but pretty pricey for the lazy service."

  • "Had a yummy meal before the theater. Limited menu, but still enough variety of choices. Branzino was delicious moist with root vegetable side. Just a small dessert which was perfect. Will definitely go back. Very personal le and knowledgeable waiter."

  • "We met friends for dinner before a show at Studio Theatre. We've been coming here for dinner before shows for years and really appreciate the good service, generally good food, and great proximity to the theatre. I'm a vegetarian, so my food reviews are usually more tightly focused than those of other diners, since there are so few things to critique. Anyway, service was great the night of this review. The vegetarian fare was a little weaker than normal, though - typical squash/pumpkin-stuffed ravioli with butter-sage sauce (the same option offered by I'd guess 30 percent of DC's mostly-carnivorous restaurants), but a little on the dense, pasty side."

  • "I think it would help you add business if you could put large groups together by pushing two tables together from time to time. Our sign language class would have liked to have all been together with all our new friends, so that we could converse. On the other hand, the lighting was adequate. For me, the pasta was a little stale, the meat/sausage had an "off" flavor, and the salad was slightly wilted, so my rating of the food is based on my dish. I also felt the dish was over-priced for the portion size. Other diners at the table commented that their dishes were tasty. I was a little put off by the bathroom. One square of toilet paper available when I got there. A positive: it's a good location to get to the theatre in a minute."

  • "Posto had great food, and I had a great time. However, our server (who never told us her name) only came to our table probably 4 times throughout the night, and one of those because we fetched her. We had to use another server working tables by us 3 times for service (he asked when he didn't have to and was very nice). When she did speak to us, she was very short with us. As I said, the food was fantastic. The martinis we had were also made very well."

  • "Food was mostly mediocre with the exception of very good bread and good spinach meat ravioli . Service was perfunctory. Difficult to flag someone down for more wine, pepper etc. and no opportunity when food arrived - server slapped it down and turned on his heel. Space feels tired and unremarkable. Won't go back with so many other restaurants in the area."

  • "We come here once a month before the theatre and it's always great. Seasonal changes to the menu. The other night, we needed two dinners that were gluten-free, dairy-free, meat-free, sugar-free, alcohol-free. "No problem" said our waiter, who suggested the halibut special and the grilled branzino. He came back from the kitchen to alert us that the branzino came with a side that had a little cream in it, so he offered us a tempting variety of alternatives. So great, as always. Can't wait to go back to have meat, bread and wine!"

  • "Pesto's location right next to the Studio Theater makes it the perfect choice for dinner before a play. The menu offers variety, the food is fantastic. Highly recommended."

  • "My family and I had an amazing dinner at posto the other night. The food was amazing. I live in NYC and have visted Italy a few times, and I have been looking for a place that does Italian pizza RIGHT! And this place is it. The pizzas taste like those that I've eaten in Rome. So delicious. Not just the pizzas, but the appetizers, pastas, and main courses were also delicious. I brought my 4 month old baby, and felt so comfortable and well taken care of. The staff was awesome. I totally recommend this place for its service and its food."

  • "We had only a short time to eat before going to the theater. Service was great, the food was delicious, and we ended up at the show 15 min early without feeling rushed during our meal. We regularly go to Posto on our theater nights; this meal was particularly good and efficient."

  • "I enjoy Posto -- the food is great and the service is always good -- but the ambience always seems rather cold to me. Concrete floors? Wide open spaces without decoration? Maybe it's nicer during the day when the light filters through the windows, but at night it's a bit non-descript if not off-putting. I know it's supposed to be hip, but you can be both hip and warm."

  • "I can't say enough good things about the food at Posto - it's one of my go-to places when I have out-of-town guests, and it's a worthy "little sister" to Tosca, a restaurant in the same group that I very much enjoy for special occasions. That said, the service at Posto was a bit rushed and aloof, with the server constantly interrupting our conversation just to keep things moving along - and that's why I'm giving Posto four stars instead of five. While I do like the busy vibe, it shouldn't come at the expense of guests' dining experience, especially at this price point. There's much, much more competition on 14th Street now, and the management needs to be mindful of that."

  • "Great food at Posto. Nice "vibe" to the place. And, despite all the new restaurants in the area, Posto still packed on a Saturday night. We've eaten there several times and love the food. Service was just a bit off in minor ways. In fact, at most restaurants would not even notice it but since Posto sets such high standards in food and service, these minor lapses caught our attention. That said, we'll be returning."

  • "Fantastic service. I cannot understand the menu because I am a tourist. However, the waiter gave me very good recommendation. I enjoy the salad, pasta and the dessert with black coffee. I am not sure about if it is cheap or not to spend 45USD for this. I think it is worth of it. Great!"

  • "If you're tired of the current DC trend of upscale American comfort food, Posto offers creative Italian, with interesting preparations but not of the trying-too-hard variety. Both of us are sensitive to gluten, and had no trouble finding options on the menu, although we would have liked to sample the pasta. The portions are on the delicate side, so you'll want to get appetizers if you're very hungry, but you should sample them anyway. We liked everything we ordered. The vegetables were particularly good. The service was attentive without being intrusive. Not inexpensive, but the quality of ingredients and preparation was good. We were there on a slow night - Monday, very cold - but we could have a conversation without shouting."

  • "Food was pretty good (not amazing but solid) but the service was poor, ruining the whole night. The waiter was rushed. We received incorrect information about an appetizer. We didn't get a spoon for our fisherman's stew. We had to flag down someone for water twice and more drinks. The waiter never came over to check on us to ask how the appetizer or entrees were or if we needed anything (like a spoon). The welcome to the restaurant wasn't particularly warm.As we left the restaurant there were 3 employees, including the manager, at the front.None bothered to stop and say a simple have a nice night. We wouldn't normally care, but we had just spent an hour and 15 minutes with extremely lacking service. An inattentive end to an inattentive evening."
