Diner Reviews
  • "Been to Postino twice and very pleased both times. The place has a nice feel, well-prepared and interesting dishes, and both times our waitperson was fantastic. "

  • "Excellent food and service. But , we waited awhile to get our drinks at the bar. "

  • "Enjoyed a great meal here last Friday night. The service was attentive without hovering and the food was perfect. I also would add the venue is well-suited for a date/birthday/anniversary/or casual night out as there are several different dining areas, each with varying levels of noise/ambiance. This was my second visit, and I highly recommend reservations for the weekend."

  • "This is a place that has always done what I've asked. If I want some quiet time with my date, I get it. If I need service, it's always there. Always great food, comfortable surroundings and super patio."

  • "Menu changes with season and is interesting Outdoor dining area very cozy Addition of fire pit area for casual hang out Is fun and relaxing Service always friendly and accommodation, Especially tuned into needs of children in an adult setting A "never miss" for foo excellence Miss the lamb"

  • "This was our second time and the food quality was not very good. The steak was very fatty and the chicken was overlooked and rubbery. Our server was good. The desserts were stale especially the key Lime pie."

  • "Service: attentive, quick, polite yet engaging and fun. Food: probably excellent overall. I ordered a dish I wasn't familiar with (duck breast) and found it a little rare, thus the 4 stars. Had I ordered something else, it might have been 5 stars. My guests were very pleased with their dishes. Wine List: pages and pages of California and Italian wines. Ambience: beautiful surroundings in the restaurant."

  • "Steve wanted to go back to Postino for this birthday to have the short ribs. We finally made it 3 months after his actual birthday. We started with cocktails, then had a wonderfully fresh green salad. We ordered the fabulous short ribs, veal scallopini, and salmon. Everything was perfect! Special thanks for adjusting our reservation, since we were running a little late!"

  • "Great spot for ambience and good food. Enjoy a special evening or Birthday/Anniversary celebration."

  • "We made an early reservation, 5:30. There was on site parking at that time, plus free valet available. We were greeted warmly, and service was lovely and attentive throughout our meal. We shared the Burrata, then each selected a different entree intending to share with each other. We all agreed the short ribs with polenta was the best. Beautiful space, great food, great service. We will be back."

  • "Postino is a favorite restaurant in the East Bay and they continue to surprise and delight. While we waited for our fireside table to be ready, we enjoyed a glass of chardonnay by the fire pit, a very lovely way to begin the evening. I love white table cloth dining for those special dates and Postino delivers on class and service. The beet salad with citrus, although beautiful, was heavy on the orange slices with only a few bites of red beets. The duck breast over spaetzle was divine and the fish choices excellent. A dessert was split four ways ending a lovely meal celebration. This is a 4-5 Star establishment."

  • "Our food was delicious! It's the best restaurant around! We're so tired of paying good money for mediocre food, but Postino did not fall into this category. We had the short ribs, veal and fried chicken and all were great."

  • "The best bottle of Zin and Rib Eye I have had in recent memory. Great outdoor fire pit drinks, attentive, but not obtrusive service... Simply one of the best dining experiences in the East Bay. $1,000 later for our party and we all left very very satisfied. A perfect 5 star evening."

  • "This is a lovely spot in Lafayette. The food is good but not great. You have to go through the tunnel for that."

  • "The food and ambience is wonderful. The short ribs are a must have and listening to the guitarist while dining out is great. Either dining with friends or that special someone, this is the place to go."

  • "Great food, great service. It's a fail-safe choice for special occasions and never disappointed."

  • "My friend and I spent 4 hours catching up and sharing travel photos over a wonderful lunch at Postino's. The food was delicious, beautifully presented, and the wine list interesting. The service was prompt, but we never felt hurried."

  • "Short Ribs served contained a large amount of fat. While the fat had been melted well, it was not appealing. Also the favor was weak. Otherwise everything else was excellent."

  • "It was difficult to hold a conversation as the evening went on--it was quiet early but very noisy by 7:00. Not a place to go if you want to have a quiet conversation with a friend unless you go very early."

  • "I love the ambience of Postinos and the servers are always friendly, efficient and song seem hurried. I have to admit, I always have to have the short ribs!! They melt in your mouth and the flavor is delicious. Postinos is one of my favorite..special occasion or not. Jacqueline Clark"

  • "I have been to Postino several times before and wanted my fiancé to have the opportunity to dine there and experience how much I love Postino! We had a 5:30 reservation and spent some time walking around the restaurant as we are considering holding our rehearsal dinner there in October. Everyone was truly friendly and helpful! Our server was incredible and very attentive to my dietary restrictions (I have Celiac Disease and he made sure to check on everything in regards to what was safe for me to eat). Our dishes were absolutely delicious and we loved our dining experience! We look forward to our next time at Postino!"

  • "Aside from sticker shock on my call whiskey I enjoyed at the bar before being seated, it was a great dining experience. The outdoors seating looked nice but we sat indoors. Brick walls make me nervous and you will be surrounded by them. The place overall is a bit crowded and it's a little noisy but the food rocked. I enjoyed a kale and broth soup and LOVED the clam linguini. My guest had a large portion of perfectly seasoned salmon on a bed of tender kale (what's the deal with all this kale everywhere?) We had a nice bottle of wine for a reasonable price and the entire staff was excellent - the hostess, the bartender, waitperson and busboy - everyone. Good time. Good place."

  • "The Postino building is gorgeous, and the darker rooms are cozy in the winter. We were seated in the cooler bar area and the sun beamed right in the face of one of us. This was completely unnoticed by the hostess and the table staff, though ultimately rectified at our request. We all ordered the special sandwich, some with french fries which were greasy, limp and lukewarm. Sorry to say, but this visit was a disappointment."

  • "To be honest, I was a little disappointed. I've heard such great things about this restaurant, and having been there once before, I remembered the ambiance as much more romantic. My husband and I went for a post-Valentines dinner on Sunday evening sans children, and found our dining area included several young children, including a crying baby. I had hoped for a quieter, more romantic meal at such an upscale venue. Our service was good, but the food was not as spectacular as I'd expected. I ordered the thin-sliced prime rib special with risotto, and found it nice but not particularly flavorful. My husband ordered the seared ahi tuna, a treat, but again it was ho-hum rather than spectacular. We enjoyed the caramel pot au creme for dessert."

  • "We went on 2/16, Sunday, which was 2 days after Valentine's Day. We both ordered pastas for our mains and we enjoyed the dishes. The calamari appetizer was good too. The only set back was we felt rushed even though we had an early reservation. The bus person literally emptied the remaining calamari on one of the plates. We felt that was rude! We ordered one apple something for dessert and that was cold and dry. Other than the bus person and the dessert, we had a good evening and we will most likely go back and give it another try."

  • "my hubby and i just dined at Postino - our first real date night since having baby #3 last May so a belated affair. we enjoyed the burrata mozzarella appetizer, tuna and duck main courses and the pot de creme dessert - along with wine and bubbles. our waiter Bryan was the real treat of the experience - attentive, knowledgable (sharing the history of the building and restaurant) - and a real pro. we will certainly dine there again!"

  • "Brought my wife here for our anniversary. Very nice service, attentive but not annoying. We shared a bruusel sprout salad, she had Risotto and I had the beef short ribs. A very enjoyable evening."

  • "Our wine was served in glasses that had been washed but not dried. There was a visible water sheen on the inside of the glasses and a skimpy pour of wine. My view was of the entryway to the restaurant was an arched hallway lined on both sides with wine bottles. Sadly, this was also where the restaurant stored extra chairs and the amplifier for a nonexistent musician. The clams appetizer was very good, my veal was good, and my wife's eggplant was good but none were great. For dessert, we shared the beet and blood orange sorbet. Unfortunately the blood orange played a very minor role--the sorbet tasted like frozen beets. For a $100.00 lunch we expect great food and service and superb attention to detail. Postino missed on all counts"

  • "This is the second time my wife and I went to Postino for Valentine's Day and we were not disappointed. The food was excellent as well as the service and the ambience has always been perfect at this Lafayette Italian restaurant. I had the risotto topped with prime rib and horseradish that was a little different than expected but very good. We had the fried misto appetizer that is a mixture of calamari and shrimp which was excellent. My wife had her favorite - the shortribs which once again was wonderful."

  • "This was one of the rare occasions that we were able to get out for a date night and leave the baby at home. Everything was absolutely perfect and the burrata, short ribs and duck were wonderful! The service was amazing and our server was very sweet and knowledgeable. The outdoor patio with the lights and fire pot were a great romantic spot to have an after dinner drink. Thank you!"

  • "Postino is excellent for dining. The wine list is phenomenal. They even have my favorite Pinot Noir - Belle Glos!!! So yummy! It's got a romantic feel to it as well, especially at night when they have the fireplace going. Don't ask to be seated in front of the fireplace though because it can get very hot! Other than that, we had a fantastic experience and would definitely go back there again."

  • "No one would make/offer a special dessert for my 92 year old Mother and wife whose significant birthdays we celebrated at Postino on Feb. 7th. The Receptionist, who took my reservation, was very matter-of-fact about saying: "We don't do that". No suggestion...nothing. If I had more time I would have made a reservation at another restaurant. I've been to Postino at least 4 times in the past. Feb. 7, 2014 was my last time. Next time I have a special occasion I'll go to "Prima"."

  • "An old favorite if residents of Lafayette. Consistency whether a lounging lunch, or a full house for dinners. Service is always very attentive and never overbearing. I attended a large luncheon recently with a buffet style service, that was amazingly great food. Pasta and fish dishes never fail to please the palate. Great for date nights as well."
