PosteAnniversary dinnerMy husband and I ate at Poste while staying at Hotel Monaco for our 8 year anniversary. We loved every minute of it. Our server was excellent, very attentive and checked in frequently. My husband had the braised cheek and I had the rockfish special. It was pan-seared and amazingly well done! But the best part was the truffle frites. I can't figure out what was SO good about them, but they were the best truffle fries we've ever had! Thanks Poste!6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMUnique BrunchThe brunch combinations were, in a word, interesting. Imagine an omelet with butternut squash and feta cheese. We split a traditional eggs Benedict and the waffle with fresh berries and thyme syrup. The brunch as a little pricey but you can't beat the location across from the American Art Museum. I would recommend Poste.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMBottomless Mimosa'sGood location, great service and brunch menu. Courtyard/Patio area beautiful! Great for ladies only event and did I mention the brunch menu has bottomless mimosas!!!6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Outdoor DiningOasis of quiet near Verizon Center; the courtyard of the Monaco makes for pleasant outdoor dining. We asked for an outside table (yes you need to ask) and got friendly attentive service and good food. The roquette salad was OK, but the trout rillettes made a better appetizer. GF liked the veggie crepes, I was not so enamored! But the highlight of my meal was the Arctic Char, very salmon-like, prepared well with nice sides. We shared the cookie plate, as recommended by our server, and it was an intriguing "just sweet enough" interpretation of dessert; in the end we decided it was a nice alternative. Recommend this as a pre-theater option, or anytime you want a relaxed patio experience.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AM5 Star ExperienceThis was a fabulous dining experience. Everything was right. The food was awesome, creative, delicious, and perfectly prepared. And best of all not pretentious. Service went with the food. Great wait staff.
Finally, I love the vibe. It feels like some place you want to be and want to return to. Loved it.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMI have been to Poste twice,I have been to Poste twice, and both times were absolutely wonderful. The staff is very knowledgeable on the menu and wine list, and they are attentive and considerate, and they never rush you. They are very free with their suggestions, but never do you feel like you are pressured into ordering something just because they tell you it's their favorite drink, or their favorite dish. The food is absolutely wonderful, and I have enjoyed every single dish that I have tried so far. I feel that Post is one of those restaurant that I will ALWAYS make an effort to stop by whenever I am in DC, and it will always be one of the first recommendations I make when I hear someone is planning a trip to DC.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely place for a SundayLovely place for a Sunday morning brunch. The omelet with acorn squash and goat cheese was unexpected but very nice and light, and the greens were delicious and healthy. Our booth was super cozy, and the decor and generous amount of natural light made the entire meal pleasant. Would love to come back for dinner.5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMBest in neighborhoodPenn Quarter offers few business-friendly breakfast places. Poste stands out as the only place I would take a client to breakfast in the neighborhood.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMQuiet retreatNot many options for Sunday brunch in this part of town, so we were pleasantly surprised: The food was good, service met our expectations, and - best of all - the noise level was low enough that we could hear ourselves and our brunch companions talk.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMCouldn't have been any better!!We celebrated our 29th Anniversary at Poste last night, having dined there 4 or 5 times over the past few months. While all of our past experiences have been excellent, and we've recommended Poste to many friends, the staff really went out of their way last night to make things extra-special for us. We were greeted at reception with a 'Welcome and Happy Anniversary', then seated in the quiet adjoining room where a beautiful arrangement of red roses had been specially made for us by the receptionist and set as a centerpiece on our table. No fewer than four of the staff, including the on-duty manager, congratulated us, and our server, Iris, was exceptional. The beef bourguignon, as always, was incredible. The whole experience was perfect!5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat BrunchI was a little worried that it was so easy to get a brunch reservation without much notice, as so many other restaurants are packed for Sunday brunch. It's inside the Hotel Monaco, and a little hard to find. They managed to have something for everyone- there were families with little kids, big groups, young couples.
The menu covers a big range of brunch options without being overwhelming- standard like waffles or eggs benedict, and some more inventive dishes as well. (Duck fat doughnuts were amazing, but probably best shared by 4+ people)
The Bloody Marys were tasty, generous with the house-infused vodkas, and only $8, which is GREAT for a place like that in DC.
The setting is really beautiful, especially if you can sit outside.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMOverpricedWe chose Poste not only because we had liked it when we visited it for lunch twice before, but also because it was closest to the Sixth and I Synagogue where Ute Lemper was appearing. We liked the restaurant very much on this this third visit, but consider $95 a person too much for a "very good" restaurant. For that price we want an "excellent" restaurant. While we had a bottle of wine, it was only $46, so it was not what inflated the price.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMPoste's secret gardenHad a lovely Friday night dinner after work with the hubby in Poste's garden. Great vibe, nice seating with dining tables in a raised area above the din of the bar crowd, and the music was just the right level. Smoke from patrons in the "carriage archway" was annoying, but that was the only drawback. Also appreciated the vegetarian accomodation for the pre-theatre menu. We'll be coming back soon!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AM10 year anniversaryWe were hoping for outside seating, but we were asked to check in with the hostess inside and were seated inside. I didn't want to raise a stink about it since this was a special occasion. Maybe I didn't look cool enough to be outside? Inside, it was not crowded. Our waitress was nice, but forgetful. Had our wine bottle stored off to the side, presumably to keep it out of the aisle but caused us to keep getting up to pour our wine which was awkward.
The food was very good - I ordered the beef bourgonione (sp) and I enjoyed it. My husband had a veggie crepe that he loved.
Although the food was good - I wouldn't want to sit inside when I can sit outside where all the action is.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat time, responsive staffWe had a great dinner here- tried the fish, Tempranillo wine, and cookie dessert plate. Our food was a bit slow but the service was incredible- they brought us lobster bisque samples and free house frites (fries) to keep us munching while we waited! The bread was warm and delicious. The outside bar scene will be fun next time I come with a younger crowd!5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMThe beef bourguignon is toThe beef bourguignon is to die for. Friends who ordered the pork chop milanese style also loved their meals.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMamazing brunchWow. What a fantastic meal! My friend and I went to Poste with her 2 kids (9 and 4) and we had such a fantastic brunch. We were starving so we ordered the bourbon-glazed doughnuts cooked in duck fat to start along with our coffee. These little gems were so buttery and crisp... and that glaze? Oh. My. Lawd! So good. We (adults) ordered the 2 different "croque" sanwiches (and I can't spell French words, so my stab at it is "mousier and madame"), which were huge and delicious. We ended up later ordering the truffled french fries for the kids, which were ridiculously tasty. Bottomless mimosas are $16, which was a fun treat. I definitely recommend Poste. Service was perfect and the chefs were cute. Thumbs up all around for me.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMBrunch heavenDC outdoor dining with out the hustle and bustle of all the city street noise. The DUCK FAT DOUGHNUTS ARE TO DIE FOR! Brunch fare was outstanding and impeccably presented.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful Pre Theater DinnerWe had dinner at Poste before going to the theater. We were very pleased that the restaurant had noted our plans (thanks to Open Table) and made every effort to provide us with an anxiety free dinner. The Pre-Theater Menu was fantastic featuring the Beef bourguignon, which is their signature dish, as the entrée. The beef was very tender and had a rich and delicious sauce. The dinner also included a very good salad and choice of dessert. We chose the homemade ice cream which was perfect. The service was outstanding, very efficient and friendly. The dinner really added to our enjoyment of the evening and we would highly recommend the restaurant.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious food and drinks! We love Poste so much that we are getting married at Hotel Monaco just so we can have our wedding catered by the restaurant! SUCH good drinks and food, wonderful service, great outdoor space for warmer weather. This time I had the chorizo mussels and the halibut special. My parents had escargot, the bacon and egg salad, and the Arctic Char. Everything was fantastic, as were the cocktails. The only thing that wasn't amazing was the ice cream for dessert, which had tiny little scoops- come on guys. Otherwise, a lovely evening.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMThe steak frite was perfectlyThe steak frite was perfectly cooked and delishous, great service, don't order the hamburger.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMPoste did a wonderful jobPoste did a wonderful job accommodating my nut and dairy allergies.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat service and outstandingGreat service and outstanding food. Very nice overall.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMlovely staff and delicious cuisineWe had a beautiful lunch celebration. Exquisite caring service, with intelligence and class. Great food; reasonably priced. Bargain lunch option. I love this place and depend on it, particularly for breakfast aand lunch. Such lovely service and even recognition with a smile from the open kitchen gang.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a lovely evening atWe had a lovely evening at Poste, celebrating two friends' birthdays. I was happy that the Poste staff acknowleged my note in my Open Table reservation about the birthdays and request to sit outside, both of which the hostess mentioned when we checked in. We each had the pre-theater menu of mixed greens salad, plus two of us had the artic char and one had the flilet mignon. All were very good and nicely presented. Our server was great, friendly and helpful. The service as a whole was very good. For dessert, we had chocolate, three ice creams and the special strawberry rubarb cake. The chocolate and ice creams were very good. The cake was inedible. It was extrememly dry and hard as a rock. Except for that one slip up, Poste was great.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was our wedding anniversaryIt was our wedding anniversary and Poste really provided and exceptional experience for us. It was altogether superb, and once again confirmed for us why Poste is our favorite DC restaurant. We ALWAYS fo there for pre-Shakespeare theatre dinners and look forward to many more wonderful dining experiences there!4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGood but too large the portions! Some of the portions are too big! But the food is delicious. We had a great brunch yesterday!4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMOnce again we reconfirmedOnce again we reconfirmed why Poste is one of our favorite in-town restaurants...always worth the trip. The house smoked and grilled diver scallops on a bed of celery puree was a taste delight, as was the crisp skinned Artic char farmed raised in West - by God - Virginia. The Pork chop pounded thin but with bone in still then treated like a Weinersnitzel was also extraordinary. We shared the homemade cookie board for a birthday celebration which was enough for all 6 of us. Our lovely table in a nook in the back room lent to great conversations and privacy. True it was a Sunday afternoon which is a bit more leisurely, but we have never felt rushed while dining here, just well attended.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMA Favorite I love to come back toGreat brunch - build your own bloody mary bar, and bottomless mimosas.
Stopped here recently again for a weekday lunch. Just really enjoy the vibe. Was hoping to eat outside, but for mid-april - may not be prepared for that, or it isn't available during the week? Still haven't had a burger, but they always smell amazing!4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMAlas, the patio doesn't openAlas, the patio doesn't open for dining until May 1 -- and that's particularly pleasant at Poste.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMWorth becoming a regular ...Awesome - we are now regulars - they actually remember us and they take great care of us each time.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways fabulous! This is simply one of the most consistently exceptional restaurants in DC, much less Penn Qtr. We actually dined here two consecutive Sundays. The service, management, food quality and preparation are always spot-on!3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was my first time hereThis was my first time here and I came with a friend from out town (New York City). The waitress was excellent, friendly with a great sense of humor. The food also was very good. The only problem was there was not enough of it. My friend and I are very thin and don't eat a lot but the portion of the scallops that she chose which was a special that night was no bigger than an appetizer and it was supposed to be an entrée. A $30 entrée to be exact. Two scallops, for an entrée? Please...that's a little over the top and believe me we're used to eating in New York City at nouvelle cuisine places. For this reason, I hesitate to recommend it and would think twice or three times about coming back. Fair is fair3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMSpecial family occasion.Special family occasion. Excellent food. Good service. Portions were fairly small, but tasty. Dessert was amazing (pot de creme - yum). Only problem was that when I tried to call to increase our reservation, no one answered and didn't get a call back when I left a message. Hope this is a problem that can be solved. Otherwise a very pleasant experience.3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMIf you have the money, goIf you have the money, go to Poste!
My friend and I went to Poste for dinner prior to a concert at the Verizon Center. We were seated promptly at a very comfortable and roomy table. The servers immediately appeared to take our drink orders. The wine selections were excellent, albeit expensive. Our appetizer, an assortment of cheeses, was delicious. Our server asked us if we were going to the concert because of the time. We told her that we were, but were skipping the warm-up band. That was great of her to ask.
I ordered the vegetable crepes. Two were stuffed with goat cheese and beets. The other two were stuffed with vegetables and a tangy sauce. They were creative and delicious. My friend had the scallops and loved them!3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMI met a friend at Poste forI met a friend at Poste for drinks and apps before a concert at Verizon Center. You must get the truffle fries and saffron mussels! Featured drink menu for HH was also fun. Staff was very friendly and attentive. I also found the clientele to be an eclectic crowd of folks that get along which is just my scene. I'll be back.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a great meal at Poste. We had a great meal at Poste. Most of us had the pre-theater menu, which was very good, though the choices were limited. (Otherwise it is quite expensive.) Also loved the brussel sprouts. The service was especially good.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMChef Dennis Marron is a star.Chef Dennis Marron is a star. Highly recommend this restaurant, conveniently located next to Verizon Center at the Hotel Monaco.3/9/2013 12:00:00 AMAn ambitious menu, warm andAn ambitious menu, warm and attentive service and reasonable prices--nothing wanting, in short. We asked for and received a table quiet enough where we could talk, despite the noisy bar scene in the other room; also wanted to have a full meal in an hour so we could make a theater performance. Poste delivered on both counts without breaking a sweat.2/19/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic best place in DC so far.Fantastic, this is the best venue I have eaten in in DC so far. The server was polite, attentive without being over bearing and knew all about the menu and the wine list, she gave great advice. I loved the fact that although it was busy in there, it was quiet. Its the first place I've been where you can actually hold a conversation and not have to listen to everyone elses around you. Thats how dining out should be. Starters are a generous portion, we shared the Chicken liver pate which was wonderful and the Moule Mariner was a good entree size and delicious, and my husband said his steak was cooked to perfection ( med-rare). Next time I will save some room for dessert ;) My only comment to them would be add a couple of veggie dishes.1/19/2013 12:00:00 AMA very nice evening. TheA very nice evening. The food was very good. The service was excellent, without the waiter's seeming to hover over us.1/5/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for a quick lunch1st time at this restaurant. The salads are incredible. My mom and I shared the cobb salad for lunch, was plenty. Decor is more on the cold, contemporary side, which I love. Service was excellent, bustling of the servers from the open kitchen concept to the tables was a unique experience. Walk through the restaurant and check out the hotel, spectacular holiday decorations.12/14/2012 12:00:00 AMGreat dinner. The bourgignonGreat dinner. The bourgignon was perfect. Hot and perfectly medium inside. The veggie and chèvre crepes were also very tasty with firm veggies and creamy cheese. The staff was great to ensure we got out in time for the show. Will definitely go again.12/12/2012 12:00:00 AMWe go to Poste all the timeWe go to Poste all the time with high expectations and always go home very happy.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was great .. Tommy Muzayan3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMAnniversary Night DelightMy husband and I went for our third wedding anniversary & were sufficiently stuffed! We started w/turnip soup (tasty, mild alternative to gooey french onion), and the escargot (good, but wish they were still in shells). For entrees we ordered the vegetable crepes (imaginative flavor combinations, fantastic) & the new york strip (superb). TIP: upgrade your fries to "truffle" fries & ask for them extra crispy, you won't be sorry, it "makes" them! Very accommodating staff, I called ahead, picked out a good Nebbiolo bottle of red wine and had them open it for us prior to our arrival so it could breathe. Our waitress checked on us frequently and we even got a free dessert and free soup shooter from the chef. Very sweet and satisfying evening.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMGo!The ambiance and design were fantastic, food was great and our server just made the entire experience!
