Diner Reviews
  • "I enjoyed the pizza and the service only. The Apple was very bad."

  • "We went for lunch and had the catfish. It was among the best I have ever eaten. Mac and cheese was excellent however the greens were a little bland and needed more seasoning. Our server was great and the support staff was very helpful. A special treat was meeting and shaking hands with Chef Govind Armstrong. I got a chance to tell him how I enjoyed seeing him on Recipe Rehab on TV and how we enjoyed our meal. He was very charming and very handsome too. We will come again in the future."

  • "I love this place. Everything was delicious and the staff was friendly. Joe the waiter is a gem."

  • "Wonderful ambience, attentive (and attractive!) servers and most of all great food make this place a special treat. I went for Sunday brunch and everything was so delicious we could barely bring ourselves to leave. Shrimp & grits are highly recommended. Do not miss the biscuits, not like any others I have seen (and I had a Southern grandmother!). Like everything else at Post & Beam, the biscuits show an attention to detail and a level of caring that are way above the norm."

  • "Indoors was quite noisy, especially for lunchtime, so we sat on the quiet patio. Enjoyed the catfish, kale, and mac & cheese. Delicious sweet potato pie. Very friendly and gracious service."

  • "Most of the food was very good. The best version of exactly what you thought it was going to be. The brussel sprouts and green beans were especially outstanding, as were the angus short rib large plate. The pizza was a bit of a let down. The dough tasted rather "commercial" to me- hand stretched- but sourced from a commercial supply house."

  • "lunch menu well thoughtout all good. the baked pasta was excellent but not enough for the men in out party but not a problem we have gone on a weekend night and the place was packed the grilled cheese with shortrib was fantastic and the veggie pizza was also excellent great outdoor seating we will return for lunch as it was so pleasant and loved the menu"

  • "Great evening out food was Awesome. Server (Sara) was simply the best, attentive, friendly and make great recommendations on dinner, drinks and desert."

  • "Not great, just good. Deviled eggs w/ smoked catfish appetizer was bland. Had the fried chicken - needed pepper in the flour mix. Greens were well cooked but a little bland. Black eyed peas were good but putting small cubes of yam in didn't work for me. Wife's short rib was huge & very tender, but again a little bland. Her green beens were good. I wouldn't rush back over there."

  • "Brought my mom here. This place is an amazing gem in the neighborhood. Really nice modern decor. Server was slow but other than that we had a terrific evening. The chili was spicy but really good."

  • "The experience was great Valentines/Anniversary lunch just me and hubby. We were there at 12 which is the time they open for lunch we were greeted and the order taken drinks and appetizer was a long time coming. The cornbread which was smallish for the price (3) should have been complementary. My Business burger was superb with salad greens that was so fresh the catfish was also so fresh and crispy and arrived hot"

  • "Post & Beam is definitely a neighborhood gem! The prices are very good for what you receive (taste and portion size). The hostess was nice and our waitress was fantastic. She was really personable and friendly and checked on us just the right amount. I got the deviled eggs and fried chicken. They are both fantastic, must try's! My friend got the burratta and arugula (spiciest arugula ever grown) salad. It was really good, nothing unique about it though. Opt for the eggs. The meatballs she got were also really good, but opt for the fried chicken. The skin is tasty and crisp. The meat is juicy and tender. Sooooo gooood! For dessert I had an oatmeal cookie sandwich, which was heavenly. Unfortunately, it's not on the regular menu."

  • "Post & Beam is a very upscale restaurant with reasonable prices in the Crenshaw district. I recommend it to all of my friends in the area. They make great cocktails also."

  • "I have dined at Post and Beam before and really enjoyed my meal. The portions were a little small but the food was very tasty. Our service was slow and it took a long time for us to receive our food."

  • "Post and Beam is fresh, delicious and absolutely a neighborhood gem. I love the shrimp and grits and the fried chicken is the best anywhere. Check out the fresh, hot cornbread and be sure to not miss the mac and cheese! YUM. I've been many many times and always am happy. The service is friendly but erratic - sometimes it's terrific, but more often than not there is a long wait for the food. But I love it and will be back over and over."

  • "Enjoyed dinner at PostandBeam recently for Dine in LA . Nice selection of their most popular dishes, all delicous and nice portions. Also had good wine selections and selected pairings with the menu. I would recommend this restaurant for their food and special prices during Dine in LA."

  • "Out of the mainstream dishes that are tasty and different with great service!"

  • "I've been wanting to come here since they opened and really glad I finally made it despite horrible LA traffic. Wonderful, tasty upscale comfort food. Deviled eggs you wish your momma made.... Perfectly roasted Brussels sprouts with a twist of pear, shrimp grit with just the right touch of heat... Perfect cocktails from the Bartender (Moscow Mules and cucumber gimlets) and to end it all one of the best bread puddings and affagato's I've ever tasted, can't wait to go bak and eat my way thru the menu!"

  • "This restaurant far exceeded our expectations! The food blew us away and the service was amazing! Everyone was very attentive and approachable! Great date night!"

  • "I popped in with a group for dine LA and hated the fried chicken, but enjoyed the black eyed peas with Collard greens and sweet potato. The chicken thighs were juicy, but not crisp, and covered in a layer of fat. I wish I tried one of the other main dishes, but I enjoyed the unique mix of black eyed peas with sweet potato, and collared greens. The raisin cookie pie was nice as well. The service was good, we had a group of seven, and were served in a timely manner. I liked the happy hour menu and cocktails I originally reserved a table for 6, but we had 7 show, when one of our party grabbed a chair from another table the hostess told me we should have asked her for the chair, I felt that was kind of petty."

  • "I've been to Post @ Beam once before, and it was great. I think the kitchen must have been backed up this time because our party waited over an hour for our food to come out. We asked about it about 45 minutes into waiting and our waiter said he'd look into it, but never came back and avoided our table. After an hour, I approached the manager and politely asked if we could get an idea of how much longer we should expect the food to take. He told me they were plating the food, but didn't apologize at all about the wait. The fried chicken I ordered had been sitting a bit before it got to me and was not hot anymore. My sides were all room temperature. At $20 an entree, it was a disappointment. Unfortunately, I won't be rushing back."

  • "We had a special event to attend so I made an early reservation so we could enjoy time with friends and not rush through our dinner. Although I informed our waiter of our time constraint I was assured that we would have no issues. Unfortunately the salads we ordered sat unserved for over 15 minutes since the runners were not getting the food out in an orderly fashion. I actually saw our salads sitting on the service counter along with several other plates. We told the servers and they were apologetic but it seemed that while the restaurant had lots of staff and onsite management it was not very organized. We ended up hustling out of the restaurant without time for coffee or dessert. Service was muddled. We were late to our event."

  • "We got a server on his first nite. It seemed he was poorly trained, prepped or supervised. He also liked to touch everyone. Drinks and food service was not well timed. Ordered the cornbread w/drinks, it came after we had almost finished the drinks. We had appetizers. The salad was good, but not well put together. The spicy shrimp w/grits was flavorful. The BBQ pork drumstick was just rib & little overdone not that tasty. The cornbread was fabulous. The drinks were interesting had the maple syrup infused whisky sour. A little too much syrup. Over an ok dinner"

  • "We ate here on the way to the Forum for a concert. Were very impressed by everything: food, drinks, ambiance, and amazing service! Our favorite was the fried chicken and lemony broccoli."

  • "Do not miss the deviled eggs with smoked catfish and the roasted brussel sprouts with mashed turnips and spicy apples. The fried chicken and pork chops were amazing. And do not miss any one of the desserts, we had one of each, lol! The wate staff was warm, friendly, attentive and enthusiastic, and the ambiance is a perfect blend of warm, modern, retro and hip."

  • "PB had been on my "try" list for over a year now, and we ended up meeting a relative there who was staying downtown since the restaurant was smack in the middle between our two locations. What a great decision that was! The PB ambiance is sophisticated, but vibrant and friendly and we loved the vibe. We shared the special kale salad with roasted red peppers, garbanzo beans and bacon and each ended up ordering the skillet pressed chicken, but with different sides. Everything was delicious. As it's rich and on the heavy side, the food at PB is great for an occasional diet buster treat, but I wouldn't make it a habit. Had the PB Sweet Potato Pie for desert, which was amazing. Brunch there is popular, and we're coming back for that!"

  • "spent a warm, sunny winter sunday having a delightful brunch with an acquaintance on the garden patio. some thing rejuvenating about taking a meal in a tranquil urban garden prepared with vegetables and herbs from that same garden. not sure what champagne is used but I had one of the best mimosas I have ever tasted here."

  • "I scheduled a business lunch here because I knew the food would be good as always and that the noise level wouldn't be too excessive so that a conversation could be had. Plus, you never know when you may have a celebrity sighting."

  • "Second time here and will be back. We really liked the pizza with arugula and egg. The short ribs with eggs is always a great option. The bottomless mimosas is the way to go; especially if you aren't driving. Friendly, professional staff."

  • "Great staff. Everyone was very sociable and on point. A misstep on salad dressing was immediately caught by the server and corrected. The Short Rib was excellent as was the chocolate mousse. A very pleasant experience all the way around. We'll be back."

  • "Great comfort food with southern and Caribbean influences. I had deviled eggs with catfish and a wonderful dish of curried oxtails over coconut-infused brown rice and beans. Creative and very tasty. Top-notch service. Small, selective bar with first-rate spirits and intriguing house cocktails, some from the 1920s and 1930s (like an Aviator). Try the house cucumber gimlet with San Francisco's great Junipero gin."

  • "Some girlfriends and I went to Post & Beam after a very lovely wedding, so we were all in a good mood and ready to enjoy ourselves. The place was busy, but not crazy busy, so we were seated right away (impressive), and given menus. The hostess and our waitperson were both very friendly and helpful. The food was served promptly after ordering - almost too promptly. As always, it was good. But the drink service was painfully slow. For both the alcohol with the meal (considerably after the food arrived), and the coffee with dessert (dessert was almost gone, and this is after we mindfully waited as long as we could). Perhaps another bartender would be a good idea."

  • "One of my favorite regular stops, have tried most everything on the menu and it is all good. Some ingredients grown in the garden in the patio, and some from local farmer's market. Service is warm and friendly, but never overbearing. A great hangout."

  • "Elevated comfort food, in a very relaxed & friendly environment. Short rib is great, salads and pizzas incorporate some veggies grown on the patio. Menu rotates, and I've liked everything I tried. This is a regular stop for us, and is highly recommended."

  • "First time here. The braised short ribs and eggs were outstanding. The short ribs were moist and we'll seasoned. It was served with some of the best roasted tomatoes I've ever had. The shrimp and grits was also good especially if you're looking for something lighter. The deviled eggs with catfish were a great start."
