A word from Post 390
Post 390 puts a contemporary twist on seasonally inspired dishes that reflect Chef Eric Brennan’s passion for fresh ingredients and unforgettable flavors.
On the first floor is the Tavern: a casual but sophisticated menu and atmosphere, with a 25-seat bar and high top and banquette seating area, warmed by a beautiful four-sided fireplace. A massive wrought iron staircase connects the energy of the first floor with the Dining Room on the second floor.
Here, guests can have a more refined dining experience, and enjoy our large, open kitchen, wine displays, two private dining rooms, additional fireside dining and views of landmarks like Copley Place, Trinity Church and the Hancock Tower.
Located in the Clarendon Building, on the corner of Clarendon and Stuart Streets at the site of the former Back Bay Post Office Annex, Post 390 is perfectly situated within walking distance of the South End and Back Bay neighborhoods.

Diner Reviews
  • "The food and service were excellent. Enjoyed the open kitchen upstairs. lighting was soft and warm. Expect to pay a minimum of $75-100 per person. Great place, would highly recommend."

  • "This was a thoroughly good experience. Our friends form Bermuda were really impressed and will come back on their next visit to Boston!"

  • "Recommended by my son and his girlfriend in their 20s. We ate in the dining room upstairs which was just as busy as the Tavern downstairs. Great food and ambience."

  • "Chicken Cobb salad was tasty and fresh. Service attentive without any sense of rush. Table was just the right size for a friendly conversation. Excellent value."

  • "Superb atmosphere. Service was excellent. Second floor dining was quiet"

  • "Loved Post 390. The clients we brought there from out of town really liked it too. It was surprisingly good and the food was not your typical higher end New England offerings. I got a whole roasted local fish, it was killer. Would definitely go back."

  • "Reading reviews of the food served here, I anticipated it would be a great choice for a business lunch. The ambiance is upscale, noise level is low to moderate, and the service was attentive without being at all intrusive. The food, however, was disappointing. All of us had a bowl of the soup du jour, a butternut squash soup that was very good. But after that the quality slipped noticeably. Deviled duck eggs were indistinguishable from hen's eggs (where are these sourced?), and the salmon burger was no better than what you would find at any other bar. (In fact, I've had much better fish sandwiches in numerous dive bars between Portland and Miami). If you don't much care what's for lunch, go here."

  • "Customer Dinner for 12. It was perfect! The semi-Private room was quiet for conversation, yet not the least bit sterile. Food was great! Short ribs and seafood plate appetizer. Outstanding and generous cocktails and Creme brûlée that was out of this world. Thank you Post 390, for making 12 Minnesotans feel welcome and spoiled in Boston! Highly recommend."

  • "Second time I've had brunch there before going to the Lyric theater. Vibrant atmosphere but not too loud. Great omelet, home fries toast and mimosas. Good salads, too. Fast, polite service. Casual. I will go again."

  • "My boyfriend and I were looking to go out to a restaurant we hadn't tried and found Post 390 on OpenTable. Wonderful food, superb ambiance. We ate upstairs right next to a beautiful open kitchen, and even though we were seated at a small table between two other couples, the table was wide and we felt like we had enough space. Great service, great food, we will definitely be back."

  • "The food was excellent and we sat in a nice room upstairs with a fireplace. The service was a little bit slow, but overall the atmosphere was good and we would go back."

  • "been there twice now, both times service was an issue, first time was a large group, thought maybe that was the reason, but this time bartender (dark hair female) was very rude to me while I was trying to order a drink while I waited for my friend, once we got to the table waiter wasn't nice I would say he was almost arrogant. Food was great, ambiance was good, too bad service was an issue twice, I would not recommend this place to anybody and certainly not again for my company's party there is lots of great restaurants in the area with great food and great service."

  • "I've heard hype about this place and can understand the hype because it is in a prime location; seating is fine; nice fireplace; good drinks selection. Service was good. Food, unfortunately, was not. The Kobe beef hotdog is less tasty than a Nathan's. The casing did have a nice snap but the flavor of the meat was mediocre at best. The one at Top of the Hub isn't great either but it's slightly better than this one. Oddly, there were a couple or few bugs flying around. It's winter."

  • "The view was great being one floor above street level. The waiter was attentive and not afraid to share opinions and make recommendations. The drink choices were great and you got enough food but not too much to make you feel stuffed."

  • "I have been to Post 390 three times and this was definitely the least impressive. Four of us met for brunch. We asked a ton of questions (which I could see being very annoying to the waitress) and she answered them nicely, but then didn't do what we asked her to. I tried to order Eggs Benedict, but asked for it with something other than ham. She suggested Eggs Florentine, which was what I wanted, but then the order came up completely wrong (three poached eggs w/spinach on the side). The waitress then apologized and said they don't get a lot of requests for Eggs Florentine. Why did she recommend it in the first place? By the time I got my food, everyone else was done eating. It was good, but I think we will try somewhere else next time."

  • "Can't recommend Post 390 highly enough! Went in with no expectations about the restaurant, and was blown away! Sommelier was incredibly friendly & extremely knowledgeable. Food was impeccable, wine superb, and decor/location ideal! Only possible criticism is of the mixed drinks. Low alcohol and immense overuse of herbs and lemon in the cocktails we had. They were a bit hard to drink."

  • "Food was great. Only problem was our wait or didn't seem very thrilled to be waiting on us. He was very friendly to the table next to us, but seemed annoyed when coming to our table. I would def try this place again but am very weary of the service"

  • "We went there for a friend's birthday. We were seated right away,no fake delay nonsense. We had multiple servers,I guess it's a team concept? It was confusing at first, but actually worked very well. All of the staff were very polite, friendly and professional. I had been to this restaurant before and had a great experience, and I had my fingers crossed that they would do it again, and sure enough, they did!"

  • "The menu was varied and had many interesting choices. The service was slow and the waiter seemed to have an over-abundance of tables to deal with. I ordered a glass of wine with my entrée and I cancelled the request as it hadn't been served and I had finished my meal. I ordered coffee while the others had dessert. It arrived when they had finished. Very disappointing as has a lot of ambience and is in a great location."

  • "We were a party of 5, and we all enjoyed our dinner at Post 390. 3 people had the salmon and absolutely cleaned their plates. My friend and I shared the lamb for 2, and it was delicious, but we ordered medium rare and it was definitely rare. I loved the warm salad that was served with it, and the potatoes were yummy. My Provencal Gimlet was divine and went very well with the lamb. Can't wait to come back and try the fish. Our waiter was friendly and entertaining, and he did not make us feel rushed at all. The evening was very enjoyable."

  • "The restaurant has two levels, downstairs, an urbane tavern, very busy with after work gatherings at the bar and tables- we are curious and want to check it out next time. We dined upstairs in a cozy corner by a contemporary fireplace and an outlook onto Trinity Church and the John Hancock building. How Boston is that? Decor warm, contemporary with a bit of rustic in the combination of wood, glass and stone. There was ambient noise from the bar behind us, but we felt we could actually talk and hear each other. We come from NY and felt the service and food were on par with what we would expect in Manhattan. I had an inspired Lobster dish that rivaled the signature dish of L'Etoile in Edgatown, Martha's Vineyard. Menu read so well!"

  • "Took friends from NY city here on a Friday night - energy was fantastic, food was amazing. All three of us ordered the 3 course meal with wine pairing - I highly recommend this!! Great way to experience a wonderful wine list paired with amazing food!!! And they have coat check - HUGE bonus. I will definitely come back. My only negative comment, it would be nick picking, is that the hostess area was "busy" and "scattered".....felt like there was no leadership and lots of confusion."

  • "We've been to Post 390 a number of times and it doesn't matter if we just sit at the bar and have a small snack, or a full meal from the bar or dinner menus, or sit in the dining room -- the service and food is consistently excellent! That is the mark of a great restaurant. The food looks great on the plate, isn't an overwhelmingly large portion, and has excellent flavors! There were 6 of us this time and everyone's dish was excellent -- only two of us had dessert but that was very yummy.....the lemon souffle cake was quite airy and light and a wonderful end to the meal. Service was excellent, attentive, and not hovering or obtrusive. Highly recommend Post 390!"

  • "I returned to have spontaneous dinner with a friend / colleague. Although it was busy there were some tables available, however having a reservation never helps. Our server was discreet yet efficient, which was perfect. I would have LOVED the tasting menu they had that night ($48 3-course), everything looked so fresh but we were not so hungry. We had the crab cake, fried scallops, the ice cream sundae and the frozen key lime souffle (this was off the tasting menu). My friend had a pear martini which she said was good. Definitely not a let down, we fully enjoyed ourselves. We want to go back to enjoy the downstairs bar area."

  • "Another bland restaurant in the Back Bay for bland people with absent taste buds. Our waiter was bad, like he was picking up a shift here after his day job at Denny's. The suits walking around all night with ear buds were creepy and unnecessary. What was that about, anyway? Long delays between sitting and water service. Water and drink service. Drinks and ordering. Ordering and food. The food was not memorable, and I'm reminded of a dozen other places with food like this. The bread was good, though. Everytime we venture to the BB for dinner, we are sorry we left the South End. The food and service standards drop when you cross Columbus. It's like everyone's trying to impress someone, but they don't know how."

  • "Our first time to Post 390 will not be our last. Food was great; menu was exceptional for both the dining room and the bar. Raw bar items were extremely fresh and tasty. The charcuterie was varied and well-prepared. Service was also attentive and friendly; Matt had a great personality and was very helpful in recommending the cheeses to select for the charcuterie. All in all, a great dining experience."

  • "Started off well, salad was outstanding, fresh greens, cheese crumbles, nuts and fresh raspberries, dressing was sublime. But steak and frites was not so much...fries over cooked steak not the best cut and not seasoned particularly well. Beer list is nice and I'll continue to keep Post 390 on the list when I'm in Copley Plaza."

  • "We were seated in a small room with 8 tables for two. This was away from the main dining room and was perfect for a quiet dinner and conversation. Servers were very attentive and the food was excellent. This evening featured a prix fixe dinner with plenty of choices for each course. We have been there several times and Post 390 continues to provide everything you want for a special evening out."

  • "The ambiance at Post 390 is warm and inviting with the warmth of fireplaces as you enter and throughout the restaurant.....A nice feeling when coming in from the windiest corner of Boston. The homemade bread basket arrived without butter and the bread tasted like American white bread in the shape of muffins. The lamb dish was delicious but the swordfish with mussels and octopus was satisfactory but not great....it didn't have any mussels. Overall it was a nice experience but dinner for 2 with lower priced wine and no appetizers, salads or dessert was $150.00 not including gratuity. I think there are other Boston restaurants where one would get better food for similar pricing. The bar scene is great!"
