Diner Reviews
  • "We come back again and again because the food, atmosphere, and service are excellent without breaking the bank. Wonderful bar area."

  • "Made reservations for 7 p.m. on Sunday to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. The hostess was nice, but it was obvious they either overbooked or didn't have enough staff for the dining area. They asked if we will sit at the lounge which would have been find if we could get drinks and food, the only problem was the waiter was no where to be found after we were seated. Waited 20 minutes to track someone down to order drinks. With how things were going, we knew we'd be sitting there for a good 2 hours waiting for the food so I found another Italian restaurant close by. Let's just say, all the staff there is oblivious on what good service at a restaurant should be like. Unfortunate, since I've heard the food is good there."

  • "We went as a group of 3. I really enjoyed how you felt like you were in the Mediterranean as you were sitting at your table. The air was a little stuffy but it had been a hot day. It would have been nice if there'd been just a little breeze coming through the main dining room. We ordered the scallops and calamaria as appetizers and they did not disappoint. For entrees my boyfriend had the Gorgonzola gnocchi and I split the herb crusted mahi with my mom. The gnocchi looked really, really good. The mahi was great as well but I prefer my fish more rare (my mom doesn't like fish that isn't cooked all the way through). Next time I'll go for the tuna."

  • "Besides the food, which is excellent, the best thing about Positano Coast is that it is one of the very few restaurants in all of Center City that isn't noisy. It's easy to have a conversation, no matter where you sit in the dining room. It is also BYOB on Sunday evenings. The two salads we ordered, quinoa and a classic caesar, were both very good. My husband loved his beef tenderloin, saying it almost melted in his mouth. My cannelloni was tasty, albeit with so much cheese on top that it was a bit difficult to eat without making a mess. The meatball appetizer wasn't a bit hit with either of us; I can make better meatballs and sauce myself. But the service was perfect, as it always is, and of course we'll come back."

  • "We stumbled upon Positano Coast and absolutely loved it! The food was delicious, drink list was extensive and creative, the restaurant had great energy and our waiter was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I went here with my husband and parents and will definitely return again as it is one of my new favorite restaurants in Philly!!"

  • "We came to Positano because of the many great reviews and we were not disappointed! The salad with grilled artichokes was an excellent starter. Both my wife and I had the Mahi with broccoli rabe. It was cooked to perfection and very tasty. The rabe wasn't overlooked and had good flavor. We sat in the outside seating area just off the bar - it was a great weather night to dine outside and added to the great experience we had."

  • "One of the best fish and seafood restaurant ever. Attentive service. Great list of regional Italian wines seldom available. Balcony in the back provides a small place for intimate dining. The decor gives the feeling of dining in a Mediterranean village. Who said that Italian cuisine is only about pizza, pasta and veal?"

  • "My husband and I had a great dinner and drinks on their patio at sunset the other day. Great that they have fans overhead because it was warm otherwise! Food was delicious--awesome home made tortelloni with lemon sauce and gnocchi. Wine list was decent, too! I would go back for sure & have already recommended to friends :)"

  • "We chose to dine outside because it was a fabulous day, but the inside is beautifully decorated in a modern white and blue Mediterranean style. We started with the small Fritto Misto appetizer. Our waiter assured us the small order would be fine for 2 people. It was more than enough. It was so delicious, we could have made a meal of this. Although it was deep fried, it was very light and not at all greasy. Our entrees of Zucchini Crabcake and the Housemade Artichoke Tortellini were very tasty and beautifully presented. For drinks, we ordered glasses of the Verdicchio and the Prosecco. Both were very good and complemented our dishes perfectly. Our waiter was very helpful and attentive."

  • "Just moved to Society Hill in May - walked by this place often and was intrigued - crowded with happy diners. Walked there with our son, DIL, and 4 year old grand daughter. She thought the place was cool! Had the large seafood appetizer - shrimp puffs, fried zucchini, cod balls, etc. She is a finicky eater - loved it. The veal Marsala with cappellini for $12? Unbelievable."

  • "The food was delicious and the inside of the restaurant is beautiful and bright. It was a little hot inside with the sun coming in the windows but otherwise it was wonderful."

  • "Love Sunday & Monday dinning, less crowded and byob. Antipasto was good, Mussels VG, made us Capellini w/ clams even though not on menu, VG. Veal tenderloin & Rack of lamb both VG. Ended with Nutella Crepes and a good cup of decaf Cappuccino. Love the wide range of items on the menu. Drinks have always been VG and great wine list. I will keep coming back as both my Wife and I really enjoy this establishment. Very good wait staff, taking time to explain dishes and specific items. Good timing of bringing out the various dishes. All in all a great evening of dining."

  • "The restaurant seems very committed to its 20-something bar crowd at the expense of a good dining experience. The noise level is distinctly uncomfortable in the bar area, and the stone floor and bare decor means that one can barely hear a dinner companion. I suspect that had we eaten later than our 6 p.m. supper (pre Ritz movie), we would not have stayed because the noise kept growing."

  • "My boyfriend and another couple went here as a joint birthday dinner. We it to sit outside on the balcony on a beautiful evening. Our server was wonderful and attentive. Food was delicious. We all ordered something different and loved it. It was a Friday evening after happy hour, so the bar was a little noisy right next to the balcony, but it didn't effect our delicious meal. I love this restaurant and will definitely be going back again and again. "

  • "My wife and I made our first visit to Philadelphia and were looking for a dining experience that would not be a budget nightmare. Positano Coast was a great discovery. We stayed in Old Town and wanted to be no more than a ten minute walk from our hotel. Our online made it easier to avoid poor quality with high prices. My wife had the full portion of the crab dish and I had the rack of lamb. Our meals were delicious. The service could not have been better. Because Positano Coast is not on street level we think is was less noisy. Our impression is that the tables were spaced farther apart than comparable restaurants thus making our conversation easier and more pleasant. "

  • "We went to Positano Coast prior to a show at the Arden. This was our second visit and it was every bit as good as our first visit. My Branzino was great, as was the incredible quinoa salad. Hubby and son really liked the Caesar Salad. Hubby enjoyed the Ahi Tuna a bunch (I'm not a mustard in the sauce fan, as is hubby), and son finished every bit of his mahi mahi (though wished the broccoli rabe had been spinach). Service was incredible. Our waiter, John, was perfectly attentive."

  • "Took my wife here for a date last week. The food was fantastic! Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. My wife is a vegetarian so we were pleased to find several options for her. The only negative remarks I could give were on the ambiance. The attire says casual but in jeans and nice tops we felt rather under-dressed. Also some of the "art" was rather weird. White clothing given an antique dye (like in tea or coffee) and glued to canvas. Just kind of weird. Again though, the food and the service were both top of the line. We would definitely go back."

  • "We had reservations for a group of 10 for lunch at 1:30pm. We arrived about 45 minutes earlier and was immediately seated. The service was great, someone was available all the time to attend to our need. The food was very good. We had great experiance."

  • "Went out to dinner after a college graduation with a family of 6. Vibrant and lively atmosphere made for a great night with kids age range from 16-22. Appetizers were fun as "family style" and food choices were great for all tastes---all very flavorful and portioned appropriately. If you wish to go heavy on apps they offer half-size entrees."

  • "We celebrated our daughter's graduate school graduation with a dinner at this restaurant. The service was impeccable, the food delicious, and the entire environment festive. We especially enjoyed the prosecco and the quinoa salad."

  • "We enjoyed our meal, however next time I will request the view not on the side of looking at Ritz theatre. The other side of 2nd Chesnut is indeed the better view"

  • "We were seated in a quiet corner of the restaurant, and the service was fine, but the Eggplant Parmegiana was tasteless and the Crab Cakes inferior to many others. There are much better places to eat in Philadelphia."

  • "We LOVE Positano Coast!! Their food is outstanding! We even did my son's first birthday party here and the food was great for that event too! We will definitely come back here again for such fantastic and unique tastings. Highly recommend! "

  • "My daughters an I booked a table online and were somewhat disappointed walking up to the restaurant. It had the complete look of an overpriced tourist trap. The interior was better, and the service attentive. The food knocked it out of the park for Positano Coast. Every dish we had was spectacular, from the fresh, house made mozzarella special to the limoncello Scottish salmon to the steak. My husband is an incredible cook, so eating out is usually a disappointment. Positano Coast overcame appearances and delivered. "

  • "So when I walked in the place, I thought it looked a little weird (kinda cheesy) and was nervous about the food. I ordered the artichoke salad with grilled shrimp and the Grigliata. Both were amazing. Even my drink from the bar was awesome! The waiter was good, not great. I would definitely go back. "

  • "We eat here every time we go to the Ritz 5. There are nice secluded tables overlooking Walnut Street that are much quieter than the main room. Eating at the bar is also a great option. The wine selection by the glass or quartino is excellent and small plate for pasta are perfect. Try roasted octopus, artichoke salad, vegetable ravioli to name a few. The servers are also very attentive without being in your face. Great place. Minor quibble too much oil and/or butter/cream in some dishes."

  • "I was really looking forward to dining here. Great looking place and menu had a lot of great sounding dishes. I ordered the special Halibut. It was too expensive for the very small portion. 3 stone crabs as an appetizer was $22. Too noisy with a wedding, and a large group of 20 in the same room where I was, and also a rehearsal dinner. We were rushed through dinner never asked us if we wanted a second drink or dessert or coffee. Won't be back."
