Diner Reviews
  • "My daughter and I are both gluten sensitive, so finding a restaurant that is both a dining experience fit for a birthday celebration and meeting our dietary needs is a challenge. Posana Cafe is all gluten free in terms of the menu, but the great surprise was the elegance of the decor, the professional yet friendly service, and the magnificent food we were served. The entrees were not only visually lovely, but also delicious - my daughter kept slowing down each biteful of her monkfish with scallops to simply savor the curry sauce. It really made her birthday an even more special occasion. Thank you very much, Posana Cafe; we will be back. We will recommend you to others, as well."

  • "This was our first visit to Posana Cafe and we were very pleased with the experience. The service was very good and the wine recommendation was perfect. We both started our meal with a kale salad and ate every bite. Very good combination of kale, cheese fruit and nuts. The entrees sampled (trout and scallops) were both prepared very well and were consumed in their entirety. No dessert was ordered. While I would have enjoyed some bread before the meal, I was eventually glad to not have any since the salad and the entree were sufficient."

  • "The last 6 years, we've looked for a home in NC. We always stayed near Asheville. During our search, Posana was our choice for dinner and lunch a number of times, always excellent. We just moved, and this past Sunday I made reservations. To our surprise the make-over is absolutely beautiful. We moved here from NJ and commented to each other that it was like eating in NYC, with the exception that NYC restaurants do not provide Taylor our server, who was beyond perfect. Another high point, the manager came to our table apologizing for the delay in food delivery, before we even perceived one. Told us my wife's meal was over cooked and they had fired another steak, which was delivered 2-3 minutes later. Very impressive. We will be back!"

  • "Dining at Posana for brunch or dinner is an absolute must when visiting Asheville. The food is prepared by expert chefs who take the time and care to consider not only dietary restrictions, creating plates that taste amazing as well. We were greeted as we arrived by a number of staff members and our waiter, Roberto greeted us with warmth and soon returned with some amazing cappucinos. The house made biscotti served with the coffee was also amazing. Roberto and his coworkers all made sure we were taken care of throughout the whole meal and the kitchen was able to prepare our food in a matter of minutes, though we never felt rushed. The patio is a favorite because of the local musicians and artists that gather nearby."

  • "This was one of my best dining experiences in Asheville. Entrees were delicious, their presentations worthy of a picture. I would highly recommend the scallops and the trout. By the time desert came we were pretty full but we were celebrating a friend's birthday so we ordered two deserts with 4 forks and 4 spoons; that's exactly what we got. Our server was great, answered all of our questions, remembered who ordered what and just seemed to exactly when to see if we needed anything and when to just leave us alone. I can't wait to come back for brunch and sit outside."

  • "The food was delicious and the decor/atmosphere is modern, relaxing, and interesting. They accommodated my need for a table with lower noise so that we could talk with old friends easily. The service was good, although a bit slower than I usually find. I saw several couples very much in love enjoying the night. Tables are not jammed together."

  • "This is one of my favorite restaurants to bring those just moving into Asheville. The food is delicious, changing with what is local and staff is always so welcoming. Really loved the spring salad!"

  • "This was an excellent restaurant in the heart of Asheville. Everything on the menu is gluten free and locally raised. As a fan of Gluten, I did not miss it here!"

  • "I try to go to Posana's every time I go to visit my mom and niece in Asheville. First of all everything is gluten free, which is a fantasy for myself and my son, but everything I have ever tasted here was delicious also. Quality, very tasty, fresh food. wonderful ambience. Great service. Brunch is your best deal, reasonable prices but still excellent food."

  • "Vibrant downtown restaurant. Their claim to fame is gluten free, but delicious farm to table taking advantage our local farmers and cheeses. The kale salad is a must even if you think you don't like kale and the fried brussel sprouts extra special. Their fish is always fresh and well prepared. Outside dining is a treat so that you can take in all the street sights in Asheville. It is also pet friendly outside."

  • "I have eaten many times at Posana and always look forward to great food and excellent presentation and service. Not last weekend. Even though I had a reservation I waited 20 minutes for a table that had to be cleaned by the hostess ( she had a spray bottle and wet rag in her hand as well as the menus- ugh). The eggs I ordered were rubbery-overdone and the grits looked as if they'd been prepared hours before and sat in a congealed mass on the plate. Some presentation! I used the rest room and found that the faucet in the sink was not connected. It had apparently come loose from the sink --so I could not wash my hands. The wastepaper overflowed in the baskets beneath the sink. I will not return."

  • "Love all the sides and I enjoy eating gluten free. My husband, not as much- loves a good burger, but didn't care for the gluten- free bun. Decor and ambience are good. Love to support locally owned and especially farm to table! Nice wine list!"

  • "We'd made a reservation but arrived a little early. We were told our table would be ready in just a moment, but we waited for about half an hour at the bar. We saw several other tables sat before us even though we watched them arrive. Once we were seated, it took some time for our server to attend to us. She was pleasant and trying her best, but it was clear they were understaffed. Our meal was terrific. I had the fried chicken over cheesy cheddar grits and topped with sausage gravy. My boyfriend had the meat quiche and home fries. My dish won the day, but his wasn't too bad either."

  • "Had no idea this would be such a gem - my 15 year old daughter found it in reading something about gluten free so we jumped on it. Everything single thing was perfect - 8 gf beer options?!? Love being introduced to things I've yet to have. Lobster Mac n cheese with riccota gnocchi, fried Brussel sprouts, crab cakes. We were three and did 2 salads, 4 appetizers and a side and were full. Too many really freat things we wanted to try. Not to forget the gf bread pudding. All so good"

  • "Our table in the back gave us a quiet dining experience that we appreciated. The four diners in our group were pleased with our dinner choices. The kale salad was a hit with everyone. The presentations of the desserts were lovely, but the taste was not quite up to the looks. The staff was most welcoming and attentive. The restaurant is a very visually attractive space."

  • "Posana has a great location in the heart of Asheville. My husband ordered the steak. It was stone cold. I ordered a vegan lentil soup which was good. They also offered vegan side dishes. I ordered fried Brussels sprouts and quinoa salad. The Brussels sprouts were cold and the quinoa was boring. Our quests seemed happy with their food. None of it was bad, it was just not worth going back. There are too many spectacular options available in Asheville."

  • "We eat here every year when my parents visit because we need a gluten free option, and because the food it excellent. We enjoy the new flavors. One person in our party did find the scallops to be bland. But the rest of us really enjoyed it. One person left satisfied, but three of us were still hungry after the meal, including desert. We could not afford to order more food. So we are very happy with the quality and the experience, but were disappointed to be hungry after spending so much money. Still recommended for those with light appetites."

  • "The tuff feel fries are divine. The restaurant needs some more soft textures...when it is full, you cannot have a conversation it is so loud."

  • "This was only our second time at Posana's, but we were not disappointed. It was still very good and our out of town guests thought it was very good as well. We will go back again and would definitely recommend it!"

  • "Everything on the menu is gluten free. It's a great experience to be able to read a menu and not ask the wait staff a million questions to make sure you can eat the meal! Plus, everything was delicious."

  • "They need to vary their menu. The menu is small, and after you've been there a few times, it gets boring. The place is gorgeous, but I want something new to bring me back. Drinks are awesome: try the Zintini!"

  • "My friend misread the menu and said she didn't realize her meal came with tofu. The server asked if she would like a side instead so she said sure. The restaurant then charged her for the side. We spoke to the manager who basically said too bad and brought us back the menu so we could see what it said! He was very patronizing rather than offering some sort of compromise. This bad review isn't about the $4.50 side item. It's about the way he responded. I will not eat there again. Nor will I take any customers there or recommend it to guests that visit a very prominent hotel in the city."

  • "This is THE place to go! The new decor is breathtaking and the service impeccable. It's more than wonderful to find a totally gluten-free menu. It's nice not to be out of place or having to ask what can I eat. Run, don't walk, to Posana!"

  • "Great food in a city with many great restaurants. Very friendly and efficient service in a beautifully renovated setting. Don't miss the kale salad and scallops and lobster with gnocchi. Nice selection of reasonably priced wines. This restaurant is just about totally gluten free but you would never know it....also very attentive to other food allergies."

  • "Recently discovered I am celiac and have had trouble finding good gluten free restaurants that still have quality food. Posana's was a pleasant surprise for me. Not only was the food AMAZING but I was also able to eat without caution here. Great staff, food, and experience. Would recommend to anyone, especially those that have issue with gluten"

  • "Posana is one of my local favorites. Everything is fresh, fresh, fresh. For those wanting a thick steak and a big meal, you may want to check the menu. This is more of a salad and fish menu. Fantastic Sunday Brunch!"

  • "We get to Posana as often as we can when in asheville. This time we shared the crabcake appetizer and the kale salad, then had the cod and the beef ribs. We always get the kale salad at least once per trip, and it is always the best around! The cod and ribs were recommended by our server, and were simply awesome!! Then we shared the lemon olive cake, not quite knowing what to expect. It was like an upscale pound cake and with the lemon thyme ice cream, heaven!!! Oh, and I had their craft Old Fashioned, made unique with the addition of Art of the Ages Root. So good; I'm going to try to mimic it at home!!"

  • "A friend and I had brunch here over the weekend and we absolutely loved it! I had the salmon eggs benedict, which I would definitely get again. The only thing I would do differently would be to ask for the salmon to be heated up a little since the eggs and breading was warm (while the salmon was cold). Loved the ambiance too."

  • "I'd been told that Posana had the best biscuits in town--not the best GF, the best overall. This was a fact. I came from Greenville just for those biscuits, and I was not disappointed. Everything my husband and I had was phenomenal (and he doesn't eat GF). The decor is beautiful--just sitting there was delightful. The Bloody Mary was also something I will dream about until we return."

  • "We made reservations for Posana due to the gluten free menu and it location to our night out at the DW Theater. We were treated to the 3 for $30 menu due to our theater night out and their special offering. It was a short list of their full menu and we were pleased we did. We could go back for the kale salad alone it was over the top. We had the trout and chicken entrees and they were very good as well. To finish off the evening were the two desserts we shared, a creme brulee and a chocolate parfait . It was a great dining experience which we will treat ourselves to again."

  • "Picked restaurant for menu and Internet reviews. Did not expect it to be as good as it was. Rarely do I consider a restaurant outstanding (I'm not an expert or worldly traveler but I've "been around") but this one is. Definite return visit when we see Asheville again."

  • "We went for brunch on a Sunday. The food is unusual; good but not extraordinary. We were seated at a wide table for 2 and, since I had lost my voice, I asked to be moved to a table for 4, so I can sit closer to my wife. Despite their availability, the waitress first informed us that they were reserved and, when it was clear that several such tables became vacant, that we were already seated and cannot be moved (Food has not yet arrived at that point!). She also said, "If you don't like your seats, you can just go elsewhere." When I had enough of her "lecturing", I told her to "Go away and just bring our food." She snarled at me then and told me I am rude. We were in Posana for 50 min, and at least 1 table of 4 was free for 45 of those."
