Diner Reviews
  • "With a special watermelon margarita to start, all seemed to bode well for dinner. We were not disappointed. After a long hot day, I chose a light meal beginning with a kale salad followed with the lobster Mac and cheese from the appetizer menu. Both were perfect. The kale was hearty but with no sharp edge (thanks to lemon juice, said our waiter), and dressed lightly so that the greens could be enjoyed. The Mac and cheese had a generous portion of lobster meat in a creamy, seafood sauce. Although I thought that I was too full to eat another bite, I couldn't say no to an olive oil lemon cake. And I nearly licked my plate."

  • "A very nice location for people watching and spirit lifting. The food was good but the main course was the view out onto the busy plaza. I'd recommend it for drinks and fun with a good date or group."

  • "We chose this restaurant because it was on USA Today's top 10 list of places in Asheville. For an Italian restaurant we were surprised to find that they had not one single pasta dish. A lot of us ordered the short ribs which came with gnocchi. It was the hardest and most unsavory attempt at pasta we've ever tasted. It was solid, dense and did not resemble the fluffy hand made pieces we were expecting. The meat was cooked well and the taste was good. Unfortunately, the place did not live to our expectations."

  • "Wrong appetizer served;had to wait 15 minutes for the correct one to be brought out. Two of us ordered the pork chop but my husband wanted his rarer than I did. When our plates were served, he got the more done chop and I got the less done one. The chef cooked both perfectly, but we should not have to start eating to realize that we were served the wrong plates. My husband had already eaten most of my chop, figuring that his request for a rarer chop did not happen. When I cut into my chop I saw that it was much rarer, so I passed it over to him. How hard is it to make sure that the correct plate is given to each diner? There were only 3 of us. Finally, we were charged for both appetizers, the one we ordered and the one we didn't. Grr."

  • "Both the service and the food were outstanding. We had no worries about gluten free entrees, and the choices were plentiful. Will return to this eatery. Thank you."

  • "This restaurant was recommended by a friend who knew that we liked Asheville. We will definitely add it to our list of Asheville favorites. We had one of the specials for dinner Friday night and then returned for brunch on Sunday. Both times, the food was very good and the wait staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful."

  • "Wonderful restaurant, outstanding service and food delightful. The kale salad is the best we have ever eaten. Highly recommend the scallop appetizer. Nice selection of wine and beer at reasonable prices. Will return often."

  • "We love Asheville's downtown restaurants and our recent visit to Posana Cafe made it our new favorite! Service matched any fine dining establishments we've been to, and each dish was wonderful. We loved the kale salad (I've not been a big fan of kale in general, but the server was kind enough to share some of the preparation tricks, so I'm eager to try at home), Forbidden Rice (wow!), breadsticks, and of course, the entrees: Jerk Rubbed Tofu and Ashley Farms Chicken. We will return to Posana as often as possible!"

  • "We were very excited to find this spot on our vacation to Asheville. My sister is gluten-sensitive and so it was lovely to find a restaurant where she could eat practically *anything* on the menu. Not to mention, even if we hadn't known about the gluten-free options, our dining experience was fantastic. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was very interesting. Would highly recommend."

  • "We chose this restaurant because of needing to accommodate someone with celiac disease. In all our travels this is the first all gluten free full service restaurant we've ever come across and we were in awe about that. Well, what an unexpected bonus was what a great restaurant this is! The service was exceptional and the food was absolutely delicious! The food was perfectly seasoned, wonderfully imagined, and beautifully presented. And, wow, our celiac friend could pick anything on the menu! Highly recommended GF or not."

  • "Posana Cafe is our restaurant of choice for all occasions - birthday celebrations, Mother's Day, Father's Day, and any other day in between. The food is consistently excellent, the servers very pleasant and the gluten free kitchen makes this the safest -and only - restaurant that we can fully trust as a dining out experience. And their dinner burger is the best in town!"

  • "Watermelon gazpacho, peach and goat cheese salad and tender tasty short ribs were all delicious. Limited menu and wine list, but don't let that stop you."

  • "New decor, poor design.T he front door/receiving area is not large enough to accommodate incoming/waiting guests and exiting guests. New decor looks chosen from a restaurant design catalog. I have eaten there before, probably more than a year ago, and it has always been pretty good but the food was not good and some uneatable. Of 5 meals two were returned and we were not charged. The manager was very nice treated us kindly. But, that will not make me take another chance there."

  • "My husband and I dined at Posana on a Friday based on an online recommendation for celiac dining in Asheville. If we hadn't seen that it was a 100% GF restaurant, we never would have known. The food was that amazing. Our server was attentive without being overbearing and was very knowledgable about the menu and the wine list. The restaurant itself is gorgeous, as well. The whole experience was so good that we went back for drinks on Saturday afternoon and brunch on Sunday morning before heading home. We highly recommend Posana to anyone looking for delicious food and drinks, fabulous service, and a vibrant atmosphere. Posana is the complete package."

  • "This is a must try is you're in the Asheville area! Whether its for a special occasion or just a night out during the week, I highly recommend Posana Cafe. In a city filled with incredible food, Posana definitely is on the top of my list. Their locally sourced foods are perfectly paired and satisfying to the core. The staff is very attentive and friendly. Lastly, the restaurant design is beautiful, with characteristics reminiscent of nature and the ocean, its a place that you will find hard to leave!"

  • "We go to Posana a lot and have always enjoyed it! Tonight was mixed. We had trout--excellent, and swordfish--not so good. It seemed to not be quite fresh. I'm reluctant to give a mixed review because all in all Posana's batting record has been great. In retrospect, we should have sent the swordfish back! I know they would have been accommodating if they had known we were not pleased."

  • "We had reservations for a graduation dinner at 5 pm, when the restaurant opens. We arrived only 10 minutes early and were locked out, and it was down pouring outside. Another elderly woman was there before us, standing in the rain. REALLY? Of course the house was filled with staff. The guy at the cash register wouldn't open the door until 5:00 on the dot. We can't stand in the foyer and be dry? When he finally opened the door, he said he "couldn't find the key" and "we don't open until 5". LOSER. Good way to lose customers. There are LOTS of restaurants in AVL. You guys should have a protocol to be open before "5 on the dot", like other places. and...my swordfish was dry and salty. Maybe next time will be better. :-("

  • "My wife was recently diagnosed with gluten intolerance and had to switch to a gluten free diet. The transition has been challenging as where we live the options are very limited. So finding a restaurant that is 100% gluten free was very exciting. We have experienced other restaurants that have a few options and at times the gluten free food wasn't very appetizing. We did go on a Disney Cruise recently and they had a lot of options but again some of the food wasn't very tasty. Everything that we ordered was terrific! And you all made my wife's day (and birthday) by having a terrific tasting biscuit. This food ranks right up with what Disney offers and that says a lot within itself. We will be back with friends in the future!"

  • "We brought a friend - obviously the kiss of death for having a good experience. We had previously had very good food at Posana, but Sunday was an exception. Our friend's eggs benedict was overcooked, basically hard boiled. Her tea was brought in a special carafe, but never served. Our food was cold, my egg tacos were unappealingly tossed onto dry, cold tortillas (the eggs could have been more tastily cooked), the salsa was uninspired and bacon so thick and hard, it was nearly unchewable. My husband's mushroom and onion omelet, was tasty, but cold and his grits definitely could have been warmer. All-in-all not a rave review by any means."

  • "I wanted to "brag" about the greatness of dining in down town Asheville to my -gluten intolerant- friend during his first visit to this area... Starting up with our server -I believe his name was Elias- he was quite knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. However, he was cold and not very welcoming. We never felt very relaxed as we always had to be looking around to get his attention. At the end, he brought our check quite fast without us asking for it, and without offering coffee nor desserts. Not very pleasant to say the least. The food was alright, but definitely too pricey for the over all experience."
