My wife and I were expecting a good meal based upon the reviews of Portofino that we had already read, but the reality far exceeded our expectations. Executive Chef Michael LaPlaca uses some special breading on the calamari that made it incomparable to any I've had before in cities ranging from San Francisco to New York. The scallops were succulent and the lasagna was like no other we've tried. The presentation was memorable. The service was very prompt and staff were exceedingly courteous. I strongly recommend the Cannoli-Napolean for dessert. The overall ambiance was soft and romantic. We look forward to dining at Portofino on our next trip to Las Vegas. Don't miss out on this great opportunity for a moderately priced great meal!

  • Great bar, disappointing dinner

A group of 8 business friends had a disappointing experience at Portofino. The food was OK--some meals were even quite good but the service was very slow and impersonal. It took several minutes before we had any attention whatsoever and then it took a long time for two bottles of wine to be brought to the table. When glasses were empty, we had to self-serve wine (walking across the room to the wine bucket for the white) all evening because nobody ever came around to pour. Not what we expected of a restaurant of this caliber. In fairness, my husband and I ate at the bar the prior evening and it was GREAT. Raul, the bartender, was excellent and remembered us the next evening. Too bad that the dining room didn't measure up.

This was our first experience here and it was wonderful! We selected Portofino because of the menu selections. We had the Veal Oso Bucco and the Lobster Pasta. Both were very, very delicious! The service was excellent and the atmosphere pleasant. We come to Vegas often and can't wait for our next visit.

My girl friend and I went here for a special dinner while we where on vacation, the restaurant hosts had told us the previous day that a reservation is pretty much required so we set one up with the hostess for the next day. The dining area itself has a touch of class which would have you believing you'll been in for a fine dining treat...however that's where the good part ends and the bad begins. The complimentary bread was cold and hard or in the words of my girlfriend it was "stale". We ordered lasagna, scallops and a crab cake appetizer - we assumed we would get two cakes since appetizers are made for sharing but you only get one. Lasagna sauce tasted like cheap tomato soup and the scallops where over cooked.

Had a group dinner here - even though the restaurant was fairly empty, service was very slow. It took close to an hour for us to get our dinners and in-between ordering and being served, we rarely saw our waiter. The food was delicious though, so I would recommend it and just mention that you shouldn't expect to go anywhere in a hurry from here.

Restaurant was everything I could ever expect from an authentic Italian restaurant. The staff was professional and the food was delicious. All pasta made by hand and made to order fast and high quality! My wife felt the food was better than that which she ate while living in Italy. We will be bringing friends the next time we are in Vegas.

We had a wonderful meal at Portofino - the food was better than expected, and the sommelier/general manager hooked us up with a very nice bottle of wine at a discount. Our waiter could have used a bit more polish - we asked him about the meatball appetizer when it arrived, and he said "oh, we make that with scraps from the steak house". Hmmm... Anyway they were delicious, as were the scallops and the lobster agnolotti. A very nice dining experience.

We visited Las Vegas and stayed at the Mirage. For our anniversary we wanted to eat in our hotel as we were attending the LOVE show later in the evening. We chose Portofino because we love Italian food. I got the ravioli with lobster and chanterelles and I am sad to say that I got 4 tiny tiny slivers of over cooked lobster and 1 piece of mushroom the size of my fingernail. My husband got the osso bucco and it was very salty. No appetizers, no drinks and a wonderful tiramisu cost over $100.00, I guess it comes to be expected in Las Vegas.

We went for dinner before the LOVE show and it was great. They weren't busy when we sat down & the chef offered to create a vegetarian dish for me. It was excellent. My BF had the lobster ravioli dish and he said it was excellent. The service was great, and we had a very nice time.

We decided to change a restaurant reservation at the last minute and found Portofino at the Mirage where we were staying. The service started out slow (the waiter had 2 large parties & we were only a party of 2). We spoke to the host and it was a 180 degree turnaround. The food was delicious and it was obvious a lot of thought went into the preparation. We ended up having a fantastic dinner and a very pleasant experience. Portofino will be on our list of restaurants in Las Vegas from now on.

The Oso Bucco is still there and as good as it was during the Onda days. But the lobster and burrata ravioli has become the joint's signature dish - and should not be missed. Order one as an appetizer for the table.

The food was delicious, but not extraordinary so. What really struck was a great selection of Italian wines. Their list is impressive indeed! An Asian guy was walking around the hall and was pouring water from a carafe into glasses without notice. That it is very nice, of course, if you ordered tap water, but less so if you are drinking Acqua Panna.

Portofino was excellent on all fronts. The hostess pushed back our reservation without complaint after we had to wait for a cab without any complaint. Our waiter was knowledgeable, but not pushy about wine and food selections. He was very gracious and accommodating and got us fed and off to a show on time. The restaurant was beautifully appointed, and I wish we had had time for a longer dinner. Chef Michael LaPlaca's dishes were rich and generous, without being overwhelming. All in all, an excellent dining experience.

Dined here on 6/29 with a party of six. Everyone agreed the food was fantastic but the service could have been better. When several people at the table wished to take their leftovers home, the waiter brought the containers to the table for them to box up the food themselves. It seemed odd given the high-end nature of the restaurant and we noticed other diners had their plates taken back to the kitchen, boxed up there and returned in a bag for easy carryout.

One of the best meals I had in Vegas. Ambiance is great. Away from the crowded noisy casino. Osso bucco was phenomenal as were the meatball apps. Gravy is as close to true Italian as you can get. Service is top notch without being overbearing. Great wine list. I highly recommend this restaurant. Also - no riff raff punks in baseball caps or half naked teenaged girls to take away from the dining experience.
