Diner Reviews
  • "Great night for dinner on the patio. Food was excellent and the atmosphere was perfect for nice dinner with my wife."

  • "As always the Bruscetta was amazing. The service was great and it was a wonderful evening to dine outdoors. The Risotto was not as good as I have had in the past, but overall a very nice evening."

  • "Portofino is a nice serviceable downtown dining spot. Beautiful building, decent service in a town where that is hard to come by. The menu is basic American dinner food; filet mignon, chicken marsala, etc. Extensive wine list. But for the prices, the service should be outstanding not just acceptable and the menu is uninspired."

  • "They were very accomodating to my requests and did everything they could to make the meal as enjoyable and delicious as possible. Would go back!"

  • "The food is excellent, great relaxed ambiance for an evening out. Nice wines, great service."

  • "Good food, but we felt rushed. The entree was served before we had finished our first course. We had the feeling that the server had us on a stop watch. This should not happen at a first rate restaurant."

  • "Thoroughly enjoyed the dining experience. Service was outstanding, food was delicious, wine was very good. Desert was excellent. Definitely will return."

  • "Our party of 4 celebrated a birthday. Everything was wonderful; service, food, atmosphere, and a nice tiramisu with a birthday candle at the end. Two of our party got the grilled filet mignon cooked to perfection, I got the chicken marsala and my husband got the pasta alfredo which were also both good. Would recommend it to my family and friends and will definitely go back."

  • "Dinner was excellent as usual. We were warmly greeted upon arrival. A few of us had drinks at the bar before we sat down and we very pleased with the bartender. She was knowledgable and friendly. For dinner, our group ordered a couple of the specials as well as regular menu items. The risotto was my personal favorite, but everyone seemed to enjoy their dinner. We will definitely be back again."

  • "My husband and I go here whenever we want to have an upscale dinner. We love the food. We mix and match salads, appetizers, and main courses so it never gets old. The wait staff is wonderful -- mature, friendly without being overbearing, super-competent. Award- winning wine list and great bartender (best martinis in town). And the owner, Wayne Masterson, makes a point of getting to know the regulars. (We took my mother there this weekend and forgot our boxed leftovers -- and they emailed to let us know they were saving them in the bar refrigerator. Talk about service!) It's an elegant, upscale restaurant that also feels like our own neighborhood place. Can't beat it. Also, in good weather, the patio is lovely."

  • "We frequent this restaurant anytime we are in lexington. I took my 94year old aunt and she fell in love with it. It's great for any age."

  • "Restaurant well presented, very good menu. The waitress Leena C was very professional, kind and knowledgeable. We made good choice dining at Portofino."

  • "I always enjoy a restaurant more when we get to meet the owner, Wayne, who was very engaging. Everyone enjoyed the beer cheese appetizer and my daughters filet was probably the winner at the table with the Cippopino(?) a close second"

  • "There are a number of good Italian places in Lexington that don't cost 100 bucks for a two person dinner. The lasagna was mediocre. The mussels were the high point of the meal."
    Dined on 2/23/2014
  • "Yes this place is a little on the pricey side, but it's worth the money. The food has always been great, the ambience of the restaurant is nice. Quiet mostly, unless busy. Table cloths, formal dining style, nice wine/beer menu. Large outside patio for dining during warm weather."

  • "I have eaten at a lot of finer Italian restaurants and this by far ranks at the top. It definitely is the best restaurant I have eaten at in Lexington!"

  • "We were a little disappointed this time Best not to go during special occasions. My Chilean Sea bass was good, but my wife ordered rib-eye which was on the tough side. Taste was good but a little chewy. Broccoli was cold."

  • "This was our first visit to Portofino's and we came away a little disappointed, mainly due to the service. We were given no wine list and never offered one. Being our first visit there, we expected some guidance on the menu or to at least be told about the specials that were not listed on the menu. We DID hear these items being offered/described by our server to other tables around us, so we know there were other options. Secondly, it took almost an hour to receive our food with no explanation on why. Thirdly, the ambience was very poor. There was no audible music, only the conversations from other tables. When we mentioned this to our server, they stated yes music is on, but we couldn't hear it. 3 mins. later you could hear it."

  • "The kitchen/staff were totally unprepared for diners. It took 85 minutes for our entrees to be served. We were repeatedly told that our food was "coming out next." It wasn't. Our server then indicated to other arrivals that the kitchen was backed up. This was explained because "others complained." Unacceptable."

  • "Despite the inclement weather, our experience exceeded our expectations, service, food quality and price were exceptional - highly recommend Portofino's to our friends and business associates."

  • "Poor service. Food usually great. This night just average. Could be due to large crowds"

  • "My wife and I went for Valentines day and had an excellent meal. The atmosphere was quiet and while the restaurant is broken into several sections, due to it's older downtown building location, it did not feel as crowded as the wait outside suggested. Our steak and ahi tuna meals were expertly prepared and full of flavor. Will definitely go for a pasta meal next time as those dishes at other tables looked great as well. As a special touch for the occasion they hired a photographer to capture your evening, at no charge. Finally, our waiter was very knowledgeable, attentive, and friendly."

  • "Went to Portofino's with my wife for dinner before the Valentine's Day rush. The food was excellent. The bruschetta is a must get. The wine list is pretty good. The service was excellent. They also have a nice little bar at the front of the restaurant to enjoy getting drinks after you finish your meal. The food is a little on the pricey side but well worth the cost especially for the occasional night out/nice dinner."

  • "My favorite restaurant in Lexington! The goat cheese and apple salad is fantastic."
    Dined on 2/12/2014
  • "Wonderful food and wonderful setting during the weekdays. Reservations later in the day are better and there is hardly people and food is given quickly. The service is outstanding and worth it's money. I will definitely go again. Might try their wine next time."

  • "Certainly one of our favorite lexington resturants! The atmosphere is a great balance of sophisticated big city and small town charm. The patio is lovely when weather permits. The bruchetta, tuna entree, and tiramisu are the best in town. Iv been dining here for over 19 years and still look forward to it every time."

  • "My husband and I dined at the Portofino for his birthday. We were greeted warmly when we arrived, and asked if we would like the hostess to take our coats to checking. We dined in a warm room by the fireplace and our server was prompt and very attentive. My husband and I would like to recommend the Osso Buco and Bordelaise Tenderloins. They were both DELICIOUS! We look forward to coming back."

  • "We ate here on Christmas Eve. Portofino exceeded our expectations. A wonderful meal with excellent service. We will be back when we are in Lexington"

  • "My husband and I were disappointed that Jonathan's wasn't open the night that we were in Lexington. Portofino was recommended as an alternative. It was a cold and snowy night, and the atmosphere in Portofino was warm and inviting. The food and service were excellent. I had a vegetarian pasta dish with fresh tagliatelle and my husband had a risotto with venison. Both were outstanding. So was the pecan pie that we shared for dessert. When we asked for tea, we were presented with a large box with a variety of teas, all nicely described. We'll definitely eat here again the next time we're in Kexington."

  • "Wanted to have a relaxing, quality dinner with my boyfriend for NYE. His entree had several bones in the fish, which made it impossible to eat. It wasn't supposed to have any. My Filet Mingnon was ordered Medium Well. It came out medium rare. The server barely even came around, so it made it hard to even bring this to his attention. He literally looked at us from across the room, sticks his thumbs up in the air, and walked away, before we could even motion him to the table. Never going there again."

  • "I was in town for the Christmas Holiday and received a gift certificate for your restaurant. Location was great and easy to find. We made our reservations on line with no problem, arrived 45 minutes early was seated right away. We were very impressed with the menu selection, wait staff, drinks and presentation of food as well as the delicious flavor. Would definitely come back again!!"

  • "I went to this restaurant expecting great food, especially since their chefs are professionally trained. But what I got was far from great. I ordered the Pot Pie of the Day, and it tasted like something out of the frozen food section. It lacked all flavor and the chicken was tough as jerky. I guess I never should have had such high expectations. However, my server was amazing, and the restaurant had a nice feeling to it."

  • "As usual, the experience was incredible. From the hostess, to the bartender and server, it is obvious they are very well trained and professional. Then, comes the food. The best seared tuna I have ever had."
