Diner Reviews
  • "An interesting and varied menu including regional food and wine from Sicily. Our server was great - she had good recommendations and took very good care of us."

  • "Never had a bad experience in Portofino. Great food and always great service - one of my most favorite spots!"

  • "The meal was outstanding. Soup of the day and red wine recommended by our waitperson were terrific."

  • "My husband is a foodie; I am not. Our server overheard me me comment that I was having a difficult time finding anything on the menu that I liked, and he volunteered that the chef was willing to cook more traditional fare to order. So that's what we did... swapped the sauce on a pasta menu item for a more traditional alfredo sauce, and my tummy was happy. Although it was a warm evening, we opted to dine on their outdoor patio. We enjoyed a cool breeze, and the mosquitoes enjoyed my husband. Spotted some 'Off' spray at the server station as we left. Could have used some ourselves. Oh well, we still enjoyed the meal."

  • "This was our third visit to Portofino. This time we brought along friends. As before, our high expectations were met or exceeded. Ashleigh is a solid server, and she handles my "old-guy" sense of humor gracefully. My black fettuccini vongole was excellent indeed, and my wife's grilled trout was just right. Spaghetti squash was a nice seasonal side."

  • "We had great service from Amber, and the food was fantastic"

  • "I was disappointed with the quality of the food at Portofino. My artichoke appetizer was very good, but I found the food presentation average for the price and the quality of the food. I think it is important for restaurants to use local items and when I asked the server where the trout is from he shared it was from Panama. For a GA restaurant to serve trout from Panama when our rivers and lakes are plentiful of trout is shocking. I can only imagine where this restaurant may cut back more. The restaurant's decor is a nice, neighborhoody feel to it and I love the outdoor patio, but food quality is very important to me and I was very disappointed to pay $23 for trout from Panama in Georgia. Our server, Kent, was friendly and professional."

  • "Really good food at reasonable prices, just far enough away from the hustle and bustle. Great apps to share worth a group over drinks. We will be back! "

  • "One of the most appealing restaurants in Buckhead with an attentive and very friendly team of servers. Mike know his clients well and treats them all with care."

  • "Food and service was good, I thought to be a little pricey"

  • "Had another delicious dinner and evening with friends. Service was attentive but not intruisive. I had the wonderful "Black pasta with clams" and it was excellent!"

  • "This restaurant has gone downhill. to begin with, compared to the in-restaurant menu, their website dinner menu has approximately twice as many entrees listed and twice as many pastas. The pasta I had--prima vera--wasn't on the online menu and was the worst restaurant dish I can ever recall. Totally tasteless and almost no vegetables. Shocking. I assure you I'll never go back. the service was only o.k. Importantly, the server did not notice that I left virtually my entire dish uneaten."

  • "Love the food. Love the outdoor dining. Love the service. The waiters (at least the one we had) are knowledgeable of the wine and walked us through variations/options based on what we liked. Never disappointed with our experience at Portofino."

  • "All 5 of us were very disapointed with our dinner . Not worth the price . They really need to work on their menu and quality ."

  • "Our dinner was, once again, just as we have come to expect. The menu choices accommodated various appetites, large and small, and the food was as good as ever. The wine choices were splendid as well. Portofino is one of a very small group of favorites in Atlanta; we'll be back for sure."

  • "Portofino handles gluten free cuisine well for those who require GF. They had a great trout special! As always, the lamb pasta was great!"
    Dined on 5/26/2014
  • "I thought my trout was was excellent but didn't care much for the spaghetti squash. I wish there had been some better sides on the fixed menu. I did end up ordering off tyne fixed menu because of the price, but had a hard time finding something on there that I wanted."
    Dined on 5/25/2014
  • "Loved everything about the dining experience. The food was great, service was excellent. Could not have asked for more. After dinner we were allowed to sit in the outside patio and enjoy that experience. The service was great."
    Dined on 5/24/2014
  • "The service was notable, but was pretty noisy. My husband had the hangar steak and he raved about it. I had the trout and it was over cooked. That was a disappointment. Next time I go, I would not order any fish dish. Their appetizers and desserts were outstanding."

  • "We chose this restaurant after reading about it on Open Table and because of the proximity to our hotel. It was a delightful surprise. Lovely setting, attentive service and, above all, wonderful food. We will definitely return!"

  • "Portofino is one of those Atlanta restaurants that you can always count on for a delicious meal, from appetizers to salads to antipasti to pasta to entrees to dessert. If it's a nice night and you can snag a table on the covered patio, you're in for an additional treat. In a city that's full of great restaurants to try out, Portofino is one we keep coming back to."

  • "We went during Buckhead restaurant week so it was probably a little busier than usual but it took 3 hours for us to eat... the service was very slow. "

  • "Tried Portofino during Buckhead Restaurant Week and we are glad we did. Each of our selections was delicious and presented very nicely. The server was friendly and attentive, pacing our meal so we could relax and encouraging us to hang out at the table when we finished eating. We ate outside and thoroughly enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere. A great experience and we look forward to returning."

  • "We were first time diners on a Sunday for restaurant week. We found the hangar steak above average and flavorful, even though the portion was meager. The ricotta dumplings were flavorful and well prepared. The lemon budino cake was a pleasant surprise. The service was attentive and engaging. We will return."

  • "Portofino was a combination of cozy, neighborhood atmosphere with a top chef menu. The patio is the place to be. Nestled within the trees of a small side street give the illusion you are not even in a big city. The wine list was top notch and the food was delicious! Everything from special regionally inspired appetizers to homemade desserts made fresh by the owner's wife make this jewel a top priority for any Atlanta eating list. Try the eggplant lasagna for starters. It was wonderful! Enjoy."

  • "Overall great experience. Ordered the Garganelli pasta and it was deliciouis. Slightly spicy tomato-based sauce and very tasty. Among our group of 8, we shared appetizers such as the proscuitto-wrapped figs and salumi platter and both were very good. Everyone else's dinner was good from what I heard. Nice wine menu. We drank a Barolo and a Napa red - very nice. Other desserts looked better than my tiramisu, but it was acceptable, just not commensurate with the rest of the meal."

  • "Coming from out of town it is always a difficult task to find a high quality, non chain restaurant that can accommodate groups. We ate at Portofino on Mother's Day Evening with a group of 8 and it was a truly wonderful dining experience. The restaurant is charming, the service was attentive, the wine and cocktails were luscious, and most important of all the food was delicious and plentiful. Thanks for an outstanding birthday/Mother's Day dining experience."

  • "No matter the time of year, the time of reservation, or holiday, Portofino delivers. The neighborhood setting, food quality, preparation, plating, and menu, are as consistently high as any restaurant in town. The menu balances seasonal, favorites, appetizers, pastas, fish, and meats that makes it feel like your first visit. It NEVER disappoints. The service is well trained and the staff know the menu and solid wine list, and provide credible recommendations. The front of the house is equally professional. They always have your reservation, your table, and seat you immediately in every visit whether it be lunch or dinner. They are pleasant, professional, and quietly efficient. All restaurants should be this well run. "

  • "I have been looking for a more real Italian experience, which actually begins with the set up of the restaurant itself already, for a long time. Portofino evokes more of the real Italian ambiance, and the food is splendid."

  • "I've eaten here many times and have never been disappointed. The service aims to please, the wine list is wonderful (tried a great super tuscan this time), and the food rarely disappoints. Since I am observing Passover and didn't order any bread, pasta, legumes, I enjoyed the trout and tomato bisque. They scraped off the grahm cracker crust so I could have the lemoncello cheese cake which was awesome!"
