The combination was perfect! The ambiance of the early evening patio dining was perfect, as was the service and the rest of our meal. For dessert, don't miss the limoncello ricotta cheesecake. We sat outside and it was lovely. The food was delicious - I had the grilled chicken salad with dates - yum. And they brought a tiramisu - complimentary - for her birthday dessert. The staff were so helpful and attentive, and the menu had a little bit of everything from the traditional caprese salad done in a new way, to some amazing fried artichokes that I would definitely recommend. The entrees were more upscale than you see at most Italian restaurants, with a wide variety of fish and seafood options. Everything we ate was so good that we practically cleaned our plates, meaning we didn't have room for something sweet to finish our meal. We sat inside, but they have a great outdoor space that looked inviting. The wine list is excellent, with a very thoughtful selection and nice range of prices. We ate in the terrace and service and atmosphere were fabulous. Food was well priced and good quality but ambience and experience are definitely the winners here. There were no outside tables that were not in the direct sun, so we chose to eat inside; however, my personal preference (sun or not) is always outside.
Plates were cleaned, so obviously everyone enjoyed their meal. I had trout with spaghetti squash, which was delicious. We shared two desserts among six people. I was somewhat surprised that our waiter brought each of us a spoon but no small plates to split the desserts. He evidently assumed that we would take a bite and pass the plate, which seemed a little strange to me. But the other parts of the restaurant seemed to have decent noise levels. Everyone really enjoyed the delicious menu items and excellent service. Mom was quite impressed and really enjoyed her meal. I can't say enough about our night out. We're looking forward to returning, perhaps for lunch, and Portofino's is now at the top of our list for affordable fine dining. My wife has sausage meatballs that she quite enjoyed. I move on to a pasta dish with Eggplant and heirloom tomatoes. It was marvelous. My wife had halibut that she quite enjoyed. Our desserts were wonderful. We had one of the best Tiramasu we tried and also a short cake with strawberry rhubarb coils and a little marscapone icing. It was wonderful. The bottle of wine we has has enjoyable and reasonably priced. Every month their specials feature a particular section of Italy. They quite adept at finding unusual Italian Wines that are terrific and very reasonably priced. Michael, the proprietor runs a great restaurant. The deck is open for outdoor dining and it was a lovely Spring day. I had the trout and my guest had the shrimp risotto. Both dishes were excellent. The sides were a perfect accompaniment. Portions were comfortable. Satifying but neither skimpy nor gross. The outdoor patio is great in warm weather and seems a little more relaxed than the dining rooms indoors. The vibe inside is a little more formal, but still a place you can show up in jeans and maybe a sport jacket.
The food is good Italian fare with interesting specials and a monthly focus on one region of Italy.
The service was excellent and very tolerant of my somewhat demanding mother-in-law who insisted on sending back her Veal Scallopine because she did not care for the polenta, and who angrily separated out her veal from her pasta and broccolini.
