  • "Reservation process was easy. Service was top notch. The wedge salad was the highlight of our meal. Other courses were above average. The only drawback was being caught between the restaurant's ambient music and the kitchen music...which was too loud for diners seated nearby. This comment is made by a person with a hearing loss!"

  • "I ended up having the short ribs which were good, but I resented that the waitress didn't tell us that they were out of something as they were telling us about the special. When I made that comment to her, she said, "Most people don't have that anyway, so why bother?" Very annoying. It was very expensive and parking was hard to find. I doubt we'll ever go again as there are wonderful places closer to home, but the vintage hotel that houses it was wonderful and worth ust going to see their lobby!! Embassy suites, downton Portland."

  • "Reservations were easy with online selection and conformation. Bar was energetic with flat screen viewing of sports and comfortable seating at the bar or tables. Dining room was elegant and comfortable. The table was beautifully placed with all of the stemware and silverware that is need for any romantic occasion. The waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and wine list as well as attentive to our requests. The food was served quickly, extremely delicious and well portioned."

  • "I had a groupon I had to redeem for dinner only I came in during lunch the gal was nice enough to let us use it during lunch by ordering off the dinner menu. Crab cakes were amazing! My boyfriend had chicken Marsala. Lunch menu was reasonable so even without groupon I'll definitely come back for lunch"

  • "Great food, seemed to be out of quite a few drink options both wine and beer from what we heard as well as overhearing others. Steaks were cooked to perfection and the sides were well-prepared too. Would recommend to anyone who wants something other than Ruth's Chris or Portland Steak & Chop."

  • "The food here is very good. What I find odd is it seems like a steak house on the down swing. There are a bunch of caged wine holders that have no wine in them and locks. You need a code to enter the bathroom, I thought was strange for a "nice" place. The food is very good, but on the top end of what it could command for the price. I would not say don't go, but I would not recommend this."

  • "For the cost of dining at your restaurant the service should be excellent as well as the food. It not only was not but it was terrible! Misty was our waitress - she had trouble taking our very simple order, got it wrong and didn't even know what was in the middle of the shrimp scampi which for $16.00 was just was skimpy! I would not recommend this place to anyone - there are many fine dining places to choose from."

  • "I've been to Portland Prime before & both times used a Groupon. It's not the best Portland steakhouse, but it has a nice ambience and the food is well-done. I think the Groupon, coupled with multiple sports events, made it a very busy weekend for them. I got the filet and my boyfriend opted for the seafood risotto. Whoops, they were out of the risotto. The service staff did what they could & offered to put the seafood over mashed potatoes or fingerling potatoes, but the risotto was supposed to have truffles & crab and wouldn't be the same. So, he opted for the tenderloin. Whoops, they were out of that too. I ordered a martini. Whoops, they were out of olives. The meal was good, but apparently busy can be too much for them."

  • "This year was a disappointment. The salad lacked most of the extra goodies (pumpkin seeds, etc.) the chop is known for. Main course was fine. We had to remind the waitress that the website stated two desserts like last year. Generally the 3 courses were not up to last year's standards (key lime pie was super). The service was the most disappointing (Sat. eve, 5:00 res, center round table against north wall), alternating between surly/pushy and forced smiley. Several times she rolled her eyes after turning away from our table. She pushed us to order for the first several minutes and then slammed the plates on the table when food arrived. Excellent service is attentive yet discreet; she was neither. She was just not classy. Music too loud."

  • "Fine downtown dining in a setting of one of the classic old hotels - revitalized and renewed but keeping the ambiance of a bygone era. This is an excellent steak and chop house that provided a great special occasion experience. Staff are attentive and helpful without being intrusive. Close attention to the basics of good food with fresh and attractive presentation combined for delightful eating. And afterwards we found excellent live jazz in the lounge a perfect way to cap the evening."

  • "The food was very good. I don't think it was worth the price charged. All the steaks were over $40 and that was ala carte. I had the sea bass at $33. It came with mashed potatoes but not a salad. I shared a wedge salad which cost $10. We went to this restaurant because we had a Groupon."

  • "Much to our delight we found the Portland Prime menu had something for everyone. It has the dark rich feeling of El Gaucho, though not quite as dark. Our food was good, nice wine, decent service. It is across the street from VooDoo donuts, so depending on your preferences, that could be a positive or a negative."

  • "A solid, classic steak house in downtown Portland. Good for special occasions and family outings, as well as business account types. A full house on a Friday evening had service running at a not optimal pace. The special Portland dining month special (3 courses for $29) was a special treat. We were originally seated at a two-top where the overhead lighting was out, making visibility difficult. After we demurred and following a wait, we were reseated, but I question trying to seat us there in the first place as it was acknowledged that others that night had a similar complaint. Oh well, as I said, it was busy and full. Still a good place for a special meal."

  • "The food and service was outstanding, but I couldn't help but feel rushed through out meal. As though they were trying to clear out the riff raff before the "real" dinner crowd arrived. Felt as though we would have been more welcome in the bar, but the special menu we were seeking was only available in the main restaurant. Service would have been outstanding if my drink wasn't left empty for an extended period before a second was offered; additionally it took FOREVER for the second drink to come. Server definitely presented as though he believed a larger bill would result in a smaller tip, but the slightly smaller tip was because of the snooty air to the otherwise very efficient service."

Drinks were good, steaks were cooked to order. We liked the other steakhouse that rhymes with Booths Hiss way better for our money."

  • "We loved the steak and mushrooms but the pork and sea bass were a disappointment. Large pork portion but was dry; sea bass portion very small smothered in mash potatoes that were much to salty. Taste was very good but very salty; greek salad good but again much to much salt. Waiter remembered us and was great."

  • "We have been here many times. Recently the service and food was not up to par. However, I definitely recommend the calamari; it is the best I have tasted. The steaks here are usually pretty good and are below the price you would find at El Gaucho and Ruth's Chris. The restaurant itself is nicely done and clean making for a nice ambiance."

The wine and drink lists had plenty of options and we're reasonably priced. The experience wasn't bad and I can say I've been there but it is not some place that will make the top 5 for a return visit."

  • "Service was slow, restaurant had about 7 tables occupied, so service issues should not be caused by crowds. 15 Minutes for drinks, vodka and sprite so it was not complicated. Bread was finally served at end of meal, despite being told it was on the way a couple of times. Prime rib and braised short ribs were good but a bit expensive. On your events page on your website your vendor, syndical, is comlaining about past due invoices. Doesn't give a good impression to people checking your website."

  • "On Feb 23, 2014 a party of four celebrated a special occasion at Portland Prime based on numerous past visits. As expected the food was good and service was very good. The main complaint was that the menu on the Open Table site was not the same as the restaurant. The ONLY vegetable offered was asparagus in balsamic dressing. There was no Creamed Corn, no Sizzling Mushrooms, no Creamed Spinach, and no Green Beans with Almondine. Only asparagus was available. No soups were listed but were available if asked. In addition the price on the menu was higher than that shown on Open Table. This was not the Portland Prime of previous happy memories. Two of our party had eaten at Ringside two nights earlier for a lower price and excellent food."

  • "Food was fine. The restaurant wasn't very full but they place our group of 5 right next to a large, loud party. Very difficult to hear. They also ran out of coffee which is something i just can't imagine. How hard it is to go to Safeway or some other place and get coffee in an emergency."

  • "My partner and I recently enjoyed a visit to Portland and our Valentine's evening dinner at Portland Prime. The ambience was just right for us - simple, classic supper club style. Not the best first impression at the door (hostess), but it got much better. Our meal was well prepared with an excellent filet for my partner. And even though I'm vegetarian, the salad selection and side dishes (mac & cheese, asparagus, potato) are more than enough and of good quality. The stand out for us was our server, Patty. She read us perfectly, adjusted to fit our leisurely pace for dining, and was right on point throughout the evening. Thank you!"

  • "The food was good but not for the price that you pay. I ordered the filet mignon, lobster tail and mash potatoes. First of all my steak and lobster tail was over cooked Also it was too loud and when I would try to ask the server for something she couldn't hear me. Overall this restaurant was equal to a black Angus but with higher prices"

  • "Our main course arrived before we had finished our starter. In other words we were rushed into the second course. Dining at Portland Prime was intended to be a special treat but the whole thing was over in an hour so it was way too short. If we ever eat there again (unlikely) we will order the starter and enjoy that before ordering the main. On the plus side the beef (rib of) was excellent and one of the sides was very good but the other was greasy and unpleasant. Also there were insufficient "green" choices among the sides. All in all it was a fairly expensive but not very enjoyable experience."
