Diner Reviews
  • "A consistent favorite of mine for entertaining out of town visitors. Generally excellent food and an outstanding view."

  • " Dinner at Portland City Grill was outstanding, as the food was delicious and the service was most attentive. The incredible city view from this 30th floor restaurant is awesome, and one can see much of Portland as well as the mountain range to the east. The reasonably priced happy hour was a terrific way to proceed our dinner. My party enjoyed the fillet mignon, rack of lamb, beef short-ribs, fresh fish as well as numerous delicious deserts. Portland City Grill was the highlight dinner of our week in the city."

  • "We advised that we were celebrating a special occasion when the reservation was made. We were seated in a booth at the back of the room. The window tables were all full, but we would have waited in the bar for one had we been given the opportunity. The room was quite noisy, perhaps because of our table location. The food was only just o.k. The stacked salad (their version of a wedge) had a good dressing, but way too much of it. The scallop dish was tasty, but small considering the price. The salmon was overpowered by the spices used. On the plus side , a complimentary small piece of cake was served. Our server was very nice and efficient. We'll probably just go for a drink next time and hope for a view from the bar."

  • "Portland City Grill has been a delicous Highlight at the Last Night of our 3 weeks Trip though Pacific NW. We are traveling from Germany and Followed the recommendation of a friend. The Atmosphere was very relaxed and the view fantastic! We chose the filet mignon and it came out perfectly with fresh veggies. Service was polite and happy to answer all our questions about the English menue. Only the Espresso was not good. The waiter explained it was coming from a Pot and Took it of the bill. Restaurant really recommendable. Reservation necessary also on Monday nights. Ask for table with Nice view!"

  • "I've been to this restaurant many times over the years and it's one where the experience is very predictable - great food and great service to accompany the terrific views....hard to go wrong here."

  • "We made a reservation through open table for my friend's birthday dinner. In the reservation I had mentioned we would be celebrating a birthday, but not really expecting anything from it. When we got to our table they had birthday confetti on the table, a signed birthday card and birthday dessert. The service was above and beyond, making it very special for mj friend. Of course, the food was amazing and had a great wine selection."

  • "We go to City Grill a couple times a year for dinner. The menu is ok,steakhouse fare mostly, definitely overpriced (think El Goucho/Ruth's Chris). I think a lot of people splurge for special occasions or take people from out of town for the views. $45 for a fishy piece of Halibut seemed a bit over the top. We find it smarter to take out of town friends for a happy hour and then have reservations somewhere else. Dinner with wine can easily top $100/person plus tip for ok food. The service can be spotty, sometimes great and sometimes very slow as was the case this time. Let's just say it was a 3 hour and 20 minute dining experience. We also noticed two different times at tables there was breakage by people clearing glasses."

  • "We were seated promptly, but were surprised to find the table decorated for our anniversary which we were celebrating. That made the visit seem personal and my wife felt like it was special. We had a great meal, very well prepared and tasty. We will come again."

  • "Best view in Portland, service beyond expectations, unbelievably delicious food. We're "regulars" to the "old Portland" standards (restaurants) and had forgotten about this gem so we were surprised at the quality. We plan to be back (possibly even for what looked like a very up-beat happy hour). Even the parking was easy - under the building - and validated."

  • "The restaurant made my mother's 90th birthday really special. There was birthday confetti on the table along with a card. The meal was awesome and they brought a special dessert for my mothers birthday. This was an amazing celebration and experience, I'm so glad we picked this restaurant. The view on the 30th floor is outstanding!"

  • "I took my family here this past week for my wife's birthday and it was outstanding. Amazing dinner with excellent service. Although we didn't have a window seat, (which are stunning) the view was incredible at sunset and my kids were thrilled to see the "Happy Birthday" confetti scattered on the table for their mom's special day. We had dinner on a Thursday night and the restaurant was full and had lots of activity. It was a bit loud but made for a nice energy. Highly recommended."

  • "PCG is always at the top when it comes to food & service quality. Great bar scene, with an imaginative drink card (the mojitos are the best). The menu is classic and the food exquisite. Best restaurant in town."

  • "Anniversary dinner with a double date couple, wonderful views of City of Portland, excite food and great wine selection with an outstanding customer service. Portland city grill is the perfect place for a distinctive experience in town."

  • "There was a time about 8 or 9 years ago when we were regulars here. All out of town guests were brought, even rented a private room for gatherings. Over time, things just haven't been kept up. The view is excellent as is the service, but rust rings in the sink, bathrooms are dirty in a dingy way, food seems under seasoned. Getting rid of the sushi chef is a bummer, cocktails from the bar were ok. I had the short ribs, husband had a filet. Both meals were acceptable, but not wonderful. Unfortunately Portland City Grill is no longer an exceptional place to go, it's now just an expensive chain restaurant with a good view..."

  • "Beautiful scenery as we peered over Portland from 30 stories high. The service was outstanding as our waiter was attentive and never hurried. The fish was terrific starting with a simple crab and shrimp cocktail and then moving to a delicious salmon that was perfected cooked with a very tasty rub. All excellent."

  • "My wife and I came here to celebrate our anniversary and we were both very impressed with our dining experience. We requested a window seat and they were able to set one up. I mentioned it was our anniversary during reservation and they actually wrote us a card and decorated the table. The service was top notch and the food was very good."

  • "I usually go to one restaurant with a view when I travel to new cities, and sometimes you sacrifice food quality for the view and atmosphere. This was not the case with Portland City Grill. The food was delicious, and a little pricy, but reasonable. The service was great. The views were spectacular, and there was a piano player in the bar area. I would definitely recommend this restaurant!"

  • "We made a reservation a week in advance of our trip the portland, we arrived a half hour early and had to wait a few minutesbtil the table was available. Not a bad seat in the place. Beautiful view, waiter was very persoanble and made accomodations for our son. Food was fantastic and if im in the area would love to dine there again."

  • "My family ended a week-long trip through Oregon at the Portland City Grill. Our steaks and accompanying sides were all delicious, as were our desserts. Our waiter was very attentive and made us all feel welcome and comfortable, even our 9-year-old. They did not have a printed children's menu, but the waiter listed for us several kid-friendly options. The view is outstanding; we could see Mt. Hood, Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Adams from our table. The bar area was very lively on a Saturday night, with a piano player and a big crowd, but the noise did not reach us on the far side of the dining area. We will definitely return!"

  • "My husband and I celebrated my birthday at Portland City Grill and it was great! We got a table by the window with an incredible view of the city, river, and mountain. Food was outstanding. Kungpao calamari was delicious as an appetizer but much too large for 2 people! Entrees were great and fresh baked cookies and tillamook ice cream was the perfect birthday dessert. Happy birthday confetti on the table was a nice touch for a celebratory dinner. Overall very positive experience!"

  • "Food was ok but much better place to go to the bar and soak in some views over a few drinks"

  • "You pay for the view. You get great service but the food is just OK for the price you have paid. Sides like mac and cheese were cold. Cocktails pricey. But you are paying for the fabulous view. The service is top notch. It is a good place to show off the city to friends from out of town"

  • "We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and wanted something romantic & special. Requested a window seat or a quiet booth; didn't get a window table since they are first-come basis, but did get a nice quiet booth. Food was very good - oven baked crab cakes were the best!! Ordered as an appetizer, but could definitely have it as a entree. Service was great; they let us take our time and enjoy the evening. The table was decorated with "Happy Anniversary" glitter, a special signed card from the staff was on the table, and they gave us a free dessert. Overall, a lovely evening!!!!"

  • "Friends were visiting from MN, so the landmark City Grill was the perfect place to showcase Mt. Hood at sunset and watch the city lights slowly decorate the city. We were served a delightful halibut entrée along with a wonderful Willamette Valley pinot noir. Our waiter was attentive yet in obtrusive, giving us uninterrupted time to catch up."

  • "I reserved a table for my wife and I to celebrate our 20th. I requested a window seat. When we arrived, we were seated in less than 5 minutes at a window table discretely decorated with "Happy Annivrsary" - a nice touch. The view of downtown Portland from the 30th floor of the Bancorp building was spectacular. My wife really enjoyed her special breaded chicken. I have never had better sea scallops. We will be going back for their happy hour soon."

  • "If one simply wants a meal, I'd suggest going elsewhere. If one wants a dining experience, then this is a place to do so. Portland City Grill offers it all and can accommodate many different tastes. Our group spent 2.5 hours there and it was if it was 30 minutes. The server was as personable and knowledgeable as I have ever seen. The timing of wine to appetizers to entrees to coffee to desert was perfect. The food higher than average quality. The one and only reason I don't give 5 stars is that Oswego Grill offers the same quality of food for about 40% less. Not to say that I felt over charged, but if one has concerns about their wallet there is a premium to be paid at PCG. It's worth it."
