This was our first time to the PCG and we had read beforehand about the stunning views, excellent service and good-to-great food, all of which turned out to be true. What we didn't know in advance was how talented the pianist in the bar would be. And the piano he played on had wonderful sound. Next time we may just eat and drink in the bar so that we can appreciate the piano-playing for a bit longer, while having just as great a view as in the (also great) dining area.

It's our first time and it was the Sunday brunch buffet. In short, I'd go to the Stockpot Sunday brunch--equivalent/better quality at half the price. The server must have been in the middle of the divorce process. Quite grumpy. View was unparalleled though.

We had a 7:30 reservation, arrived at 7:20 and were seated immediately. Not a view table but we were able to see most of the view as we were adjacent to the window at a half booth. Wait staff courteous ,friendly and helpful. Good menu but a little limited as far as appetizers. The only complaint was the crab/prawn cocktail that we shared. Seafood tasted frozen and it had ordinary out of the bottle cocktail sauce on it. Our salad and soup respectively was very good (wedge salad and clam chowder )as were our entrees (filet and scallops). Dessert was yummy fresh berry cobbler and ice cream. My first visit to Portland and this restaurant ,both left a lovely impression.

I took a work friend here for a special birthday lunch. We were seated at the best table in the place and the staff had sprinkled festive confetti and left a sweet card. Our lunches were really fabulous. We both had a combo half-sandwich (warm crab and shrimp) and salad; they happily accommodated our special requests: no tomatoes on one, no bacon on the other. After, the server brought a tiny cake for the birthday girl. The service was friendly and good; the food was tasty. And you really can't beat the view. It was a memorable occasion and I'll definitely return!

While visiting Portland for our honeymoon we chose to make a reservation at Portland City Grill based on the reviews for their food and the view of the city. Our reservation was for 8:00 pm and our hostess indicated our table should be ready at that time. We enjoyed some drinks at the bar and the bartenders were quite helpful and friendly. While at the bar we witnessed one waitress pick up someone's salad with her bare hands and place it in a to go back and place it at the patrons table. At 8:30 we were still not seated at our table and the hostess stated our table would be ready soon. We eventually left the restaurant at 9:00 without ever being seated or updated on the status of our table. Overall disappointed and won't be returning

I've been to happy hour before and had great service at the bar, but this time while in the dining room on a date, our drinks were brought to us, and then our food, and then we didn't see our server again until we had finished eating. I was thirsty, so I quickly downed my strawberry lemonade, hoping to order another, but instead had to ration out my water for the remainder of the meal. We received no apologies when the server finally showed up again, just a dessert menu and then the bill.

Portland City Grill is one of our favorite restaurants in Portland. It proves time and time again what great service, good food, and an excellent ambiance combined can make for a fantastic dining experience. The view is unsurpassed and it offers a vibrant bar scene especially with the after work crowd. Parking in the building is validated which is great. The only reason I did not rate it 5 stars is I am constantly disappointed by their reservation policy. Window seating is a premium but should be available to reserve. My last 3 occasions at the restaurant were all special occasions (birthday, anniversary, etc). Their standard answer "about 45 minutes for a window". What is the point of a reservation? That sucks but otherwise great.

Entrance to restaurant left one with less than favorable impression (lobby under construction, elevators looked beat up) and had to pass by what appeared to be a sports bar before getting to main dining room area which was very basic (almost cafeteria style layout). However all this was overcome by the incredible views of downtown Portland and Mt. St. Helens. It was all uphill from there. Appetizer of shrimp tempura was delicious; entrees of honey basted pork tenderloin and shrimp scampi were excellent. Our server AJ was knowledgeable, professional and efficient. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.

My husband and I went to the Portland City Grill for a late anniversary dinner. The staff were super friendly and the ambience was perfect. Our server was very professional and kind. I had made our reservation a week in advance and the staff had a kind congratulations card on our table as well as happy anniversary confetti. The food was prompt and I can honestly say that I have not had food that good in a very long time. Steak was cooked to perfection, delicious green beans, wonderful potatoes and perfect cobbler. We will be going back!

The piano player, who was lots of fun, creates a pub-type atmosphere. He was a very personable addition to the bar. The food was creative and well-prepared. It was pricey, but the portions were also large. We found our experience celebrating a 70th birthday here very enjoyable! The views of Portland were stupendous.

My wife and I went to Portland City Grill for our Anniversary, I added that to the special instructions when I requested a window view. When we got there they had little hearts and "Happy Anniversary" confetti sprinkled on the table along with a card signed by the staff. The hostess that seated us wished us Happy Anniversary as well as our server. They capped it off with a complimentary dessert. The food was excellent, I even asked for no peanuts in my meal and they were happy to make the change.

The food choices on the menu were diverse. We really can't wait to go back to enjoy the happy hour for its own merit! Once we finished at the bar, they set us up right next to a window with a fantastic view. They even had a piano played in the center of the dinning room.

My wife and I had the pleasure of dining at Portland City Grill. We made reservations the day before and arrived early to request a window table. Restaurant and bar was very busy. Food was excellent! Problem:Bill arrived and was double what it should have been. We noticed that it was for a different table. We advised the waiter who apologized and said that he would correct it. The next day we saw that we had been charged with both of the bills. We contacted the President/CEO of the restaurant by email and received no response at all. That day or that week. We contacted the manager Brian by phone who acknowledged the mistake and said that it would be corrected. It still hasn't been corrected. Next step: Report to Chase for fraud inquiry.

What a wonderful evening!! The food was so delicious. There were 4 in our party, so we ordered a lot off the menu to share. We tried a few kinds of sushi, and they were all delicious. The seafood stew was amazing! The gorgonzola, apple, and candied hazelnut salad was light and yummy. The crab cakes were killer. We also tried one entree - the porkchop. It was perfect! There was not one thing I would complain about. The drinks were also very good. We especially enjoyed the coconut keylime martini. The service was wonderful, and the view was stellar! We watched the sun go down, and it really couldn't have been a more beautiful night.

Come for their happy hour, but show up early to get a window seat in the bar for the fantastic view over downtown Portland. They went the extra mile to make my wife and I feel special for our anniversary. The food was amazing, and the views from the 30th floor covered the entire city. The staff are very professional and helpful, they always appeared at just the right time to help with anything and to ask if we needed refills. I am recommending the Portland City Grill to all my friends, both here in Oregon and across the USA. If you are in the Portland area, you have to make Portland City Grill one of your stops before you leave the city. If you are here over the weekend, make your reservation for the sunday brunch, you won't be disappointed.

Disappointed that the dress code isn't enforced and when asked I was told oh we will never turn anyone away...unfortunate! My husband and I went for a date night away from our baby and the entire time there was a family right next to us with a screaming baby. Again disappointing that no one said anything and the parents were no aware of the fact that they were ruining others dining experience.... The food was as always amazing. Our server was too busy and forgot to bring out our salad so we were bombarded with it in the middle of our meal. We also waited for our meal for over an hour, unfortunately we watched two other tables receive their food when we ordered before they even were seated. We won't be returning for awhile.

We were in Portland for a day trip and chose to dine at the Portland City Grill for lunch largely because the restaurant has a panorama view of the city. The restaurant was not busy at all at 1pm. Despite many empty tables by the window, we were set to one next to the kitchen. My husband had the steelhead which was delicious, I selected the Oregon Sole partially because it said on the menu that it would be "Accompanied with a unique dessert selection". It turned out that this unique dessert selection was two tiny cookies...! I think a good dining experience depends heavily on how you are treated. Perhaps the service staff put all their energies into the dinner serving, they look sleepy and were unwelcoming at lunchtime.

Been to the City Grill before and enjoyed the food. This time the menu preparations were not very inviting.one of us had the fish (Halibut )which was very fresh and cooked perfect but a cauliflower purée sauce just didn't entice one's taste buds. I chose the rack of Lamb which had some sort of a fennel glaze.. The lamb was cooked perfectly however there was not a hint of the fennel glaze. The potatoes were over salted as is usual in all restaurants. I have not figured out why chefs feel the need to salt things to death. When one is sensitive to salt in makes them uneatable. On the plus side the shrimp tempura came to the table perfectly crisp and not soggy. The meat and fish were cooked perfect but the preparations need improvement

Appetizers were good. Salads not so good (too much going on in the beet salad; red cabbage in a Caeser - really?) steaks were slightly above average quality (El Gauch is better at this price point). Desserts mixed. Would rate 3.5 overall if I could - it's not quite a 4 star place in my mind. Good thing it's 30 stories above Portland...
