Diner Reviews
  • "Dinner the other night at Portland City Grille was fabulous. The sushi appetizers were fresh and delicious, and the lavender martini was out of this world. I had the halibut stuffed with crab for dinner and it was perfect, flakey and flavorful. We shared bread pudding and the sorbet for dessert. And to top off the experience, sitting at a table by a window gave us a wonderful view of beautiful Portland. "

  • "My girlfriends and I tried PCG Sunday brunch for the first time.PCG brunch (with the free flowing Mimosa's for an extra $10) still came out to $3 less/ person than our regular brunch spot, so why not. so, all I can do is compare it to our favorite spot so that's exactly what this review is based on- a comparison to the other Portland Premier Brunch spot. GREAT view, great server-he was right on it with refilling those mimosas and taking care of us), the mimosa's were super tasty. I didn't particularly like having to order items from the kitchen, I had 5 mimosa's no buzz, which = very little champagne, lots of juice/sugar. the presentation and variety wasn't quite right for $49 meal & drink, but so what, there was enough for me to get full."

  • "I received a gift card for the Portland City Grill from a work party and I am even happier about it now that I have eaten there. The "Top Sirloin" was $38, but my girlfriend and I shared it with a side of buttermilk mashed potatoes. It was definitely one of the best meals I have ever eaten! Every bit of it was perfect and delicious! Our waitress was very nice and had excellent timing, we left an extra nice tip. For just under $80 we shared the sirloin (with mashed potatoes and green beans) and had 4 cocktails. The view was amazing as well. The restaurant is on the 30th floor and you can look out over all of Portland while you enjoy your wonderful meal. I hope I get another gift card at the next work party!"

  • "I reserved a table close to the windows, I was told I have to wait another 35 minutes for that table. Very noisy. Food expensive compared to other restaurants."

  • "Everything from drinks to salad to dinner and the special dessert given for my birthday was superb. I was so full I could not order a dessert just for me. My dinner companions were in the same boat. One particular companion is very picky and he could not stop raving about his steak. We were so impressed and thrilled with the food quality and the attentive staff."

  • "I went for a late lunch. It was not crowded. The view is spectacular. Lunch prices were reasonable. I had a turkey sandwich and it was better than expected...seemed to be a hand carved slice of roasted turkey. The beet salad looked peaked but was actually very good. Tristan is an excellent, if not exemplary, bar manager. I will definitely return during the off hours."

  • "We took our Spanish exchange student to Portland City Grill on her last evening with us before her return to Spain. She loved everything about the entire experience and couldn't wait to take pictures once night descended on the city. And the surprise dessert for her was a great touch."

  • "This email is actually Matthew's girlfriend's email address. For convenience purposes he put me down. I am happy to say dinner was wonderful! Thank you so much for making our first Anniversary so special. The table was set so lovely and the view, as always, was spectacular! We couldn't have asked for a better table. We loved the personal touch you guys gave us with the confetti and note. Thank you again for the surprise desert as well! I was surprised to find it was not the same crab stuffed halibut as before. I was expecting the crab actually inside the fish, the fish used to be a rounded shape, with the parmesan crust top, and lobster sauce. I couldn't eat the new one. Thank you so much again! We will be back soon! - Tevan Neufeld"

  • "Had lunch here on Monday with a friend from Tokyo, who was visiting. She is an interpreter, who has worked all over the world (including at the United Nations). I invited her here and asked ahead of time for a table with a view--and we got one right along the side where we had a straight-on view of Mt Hood. We also had a lovely view of the river, city, and bridges. My friend ordered the half Dungeness Crab salad (which is gorgeous and delicious), while I had a half sandwich and salad). Both my sandwich and my salad were perfect in every way. Our waiter, Caesar, providing the outstanding service I have come to expect here. Thanks again for a wonderful experience--and an opportunity to bring my friend to a truly special place."

  • "Fish and chips and Macadamia Nut Chicken looked liked they use processed frozen fillets, and tasteless. Roast beef and steel head salmons were the only two items that were good. Italian cured meat looked identical as what eat get at Costco.. Sushi rolls on the buffet station is a JOKE..and hilarious.. I didn't even try it.. How can they serve sushi like this ?? Even the low sodium soy sauce looked like they mixed with water.. (they don't get the point). After seeing those sushi rolls, I began to wonder about the quality of tuna poke or lomi lomi salmon. (I don't think these were made by legit sushi chef) Table was never cleaned when I return with my second or third serving. Will never go back. Will go to Salty's for brunch instead."

  • "I do wish that Portland City Grill had LUNCH on Saturdays and Sundays.... but we had Happy Hour in the bar area and the food was really good. The Brunch is $40/pp and I hear it is great but I don't eat a lot of food so the Happy Hour food was perfect."

  • "We were celebrating a 40th birthday and our server was short, terse and seemed irritated to have to serve us. The sea scallop and chicken entrees were incredible but both steak entrees had to be sent back as they were overcooked. The steaks were removed from our check and we were given free desserts to compensate for the miscue. Overall we quite disappointed as on our previous visits we'd had such an amazing experience."

  • "I came here for brunch on a Sunday with my girlfriends (5 of us); it was about a 20 minute wait even with our reservation. The food selection is horrible. It’s the smallest buffet I’ve EVER been to and both times I went up it wasn’t stocked so I didn’t get to try everything I wanted. It seemed like they only had one person stocking the buffet, but the amount of people and the size of the buffet, it’s no wonder he couldn’t keep it stocked, as soon as he put the food out it was gone, he couldn’t keep up with demand. The desert was good, but the selection isn’t great. For $40 you’re better off going somewhere else like Salt's. I have been here for happy hour several times and I love it. I will definitely just stick to happy hour."

  • "the service was excellent; however, they could improve on replenishing the food items quicker. when we got there, they were out of potatoes and macaroni . . . slim pickins' on the seafood and other items. the mimosas were delish! i wish i would have tried the chicken 'n waffles."

  • "Tried the Sunday brunch and we had a 12:15 reservation. There were no plates and out of Most of the food. We came for a special occassion and were very disappointed. Between the lack of food and wrong drinks/hunting down a server for water refills... not so memorable. My fiance said this "was the place"....not so much."

  • "Wonderful seafood display, including dungeoness crab, oyster shooters, and smoked steelhead. Just the seafood alone was enough of a reason to have brunch there, but the eggs Benedict, omelet bar and dessert bar really topped it off- not to mention the amazing view!"

  • "The food was delusion and very fresh. The Lavender Cosmo is a delightful drink to help unwind. The crab and steelhead were cooked to perfection and the sauce that topped them pulled it all together. The pork chop was easily the best I've ever had and the view is to die for."

  • "A colleague and I escaped a conference for an evening of energetic conversation, great food and reasonable amounts of wine. Why Portland Grill? Despite arriving late to a full trappings, white-tablecloth restaurant, we were warmly greeted, seated at a window, and patiently tended to while we sorted out plate-sharing and wine choices. The waiter occasionally sassed and teased in line with our conversation, but never intruded. As tables cleared and we worried about leaving, we were reassured to take our time. Food ranged from good to very, very good but it was the superb atmosphere and positive energy that really stood out. The place hummed on a Monday night, exactly what you want when meeting friends who you only see once or twice a year."

The view was spectacular, the food was excellent as was the service and the place was hoppin'. Definitely one of my favorite spots in Portland. Exactly the experience we were looking for! Highly recommend it."

  • "We had a wonderful anniversary dinner at the Portland City Grill. Our waiter, Alan was friendly, helpful and gave us just the right amount of service, allowing us to enjoy our meal and each other without a lot of interruptions. The staff was always quick to fill my water glass (I drink a LOT of water!). Our only complaint would be the noise level was a little high, there was one group two tables directly in front of us that were especially loud... but, all in all, a great evening out with good food, drink and atmosphere! I had mentioned in my reservation that we were celebrating our 30th anniversary and there were small decorations on the table and many of the staff wished us a Happy Anniversary - that was a nice touch."

  • "I had the New York steak 16oz and was a little disappointed in the flavor. I had heard great things about the Portland City Grill and was very excited to go. But I don't think I would order the steak again. It seemed like a good cut and it was cook well just didn't have a lot of flavor."
