Diner Reviews
  • "This restaurant was recommended by friends from work who have lived in Portland for most of their lives. I wanted "the true Portland experience" as well as wonderful food for our good friends visiting from California. We were not disappointed. The overall experience was awesome! The best halibut we have ever had, the service impeccable, yet not stuffy. Words cannot describe the view! Thank you!"

  • "Fabulous service. There was a slight mishap with a dish and the chef made a totally new one, on the house."

  • "for a special occasion, this is the place! Beautiful views from downtown to the mountains. Outstanding wine selection - we chose Shafer 2011 One Point Five and Stags Leap Cab 2010 - most excellent. Had the filet and it was prepared to perfection. Great food, outstanding views and excellent service. I will be back sooon"

  • "Portland City Grill offered a fantastic setting for my wife's birthday. The 180 degree view was spectacular on this day and combined with the dining experience made it great day to remember. Our server, Katie, was tremendously helpful in making wine selections as well as helping one of our party who requires a special diet. Our selections of sole and the sushi were nicely done light and delightful."

  • "This was my first time to this establishment. Lucky for my I had to pick someplace to go for my anniversary, and my company gave me a gift card. So they sort of made my choice for me. I had been told nothing but good things, and was not let down. Only issue was I ordered to much food and couldn't finish."

  • "Had appetizers in bar and noticed on the happy hour bar menu a molten lava cake item. Our table was window-side and decorated with "happy anniversary" glitter and a nice card signed by some of the staff. My wife ordered the halibut which she said was a little dry and not very flavorful. I ordered the steak and steelhead Oscar. I ordered the steak medium and it arrived medium well. The steelhead Oscar was delicious. When it came to dessert we were informed by our waiter that the molten lava cake was only allowed in the bar. We paid our dinner and went to the bar to have dessert, where I was informed that if I wanted ice cream with the cake it, it would come from a separate kitchen and may not come contemporaneously with cake. Odd."

  • "We started with happy hour which had amazing views drinks and appetizers for the price. When we moved to the dining room the room was crowded, noisey and the food was good but not great for the price."

  • "I chose to take my boyfriend from Colorado here while he was in town for my birthday. I had heard so many lovely things about the Portland City Grill (e.g., the ambiance, the view, the food, etc), but I didn't think about the fact that it was a seafood/steak restaurant and that my boyfriend and I are mostly vegetarian. However, we decided to go for it ("when in Rome") and order steak and stuffed chicken. Unfortunately, his steak was pretty chewy, my potatoes tasted like they were from a box, and my drink was so sweet that I felt like I had to wash my hands to cleanse them of the sugar after each sip. The view WAS fabulous though, even though we didn't end up with a window seat... there's not really a bad seat in the restaurant!"

  • "Took an early dinner reservation (5:45PM) to get a good table and start of the dinner service. Restaurant has great views of Portland landscape. Crab cake appetizer was excellent and was served promptly. It took an extended period of time for the entrée to arrive. My fiancée ordered the Cioppino and indicated it was the worst she has ever had. I ordered a filet along with the lobster tail. The filet was properly cooked, however, it was luke warm along with the vegetables. Approximately half of the lobster tail had a mushy texture. Desert was excellent."

  • "Expecting the very best that Portland has to offer. Food was OK, had the recommended Kung poa Calamari, it was like eating an over cooked sweet and sour breaded item at you local Safeway Deli. So much breading I couldn't tell if I had a piece of calamari or not, when I finally got a piece it was overcooked and extremely chewy. My wife had the seafood soup and it was a little weird, it again had too much "sweetness" to it, then I ordered the Beef Short ribs, the meat was very tender, more like a roast though, then the gravy, once again was too "sweet" the chef that night had a thing for "sweetness" maybe it's his TM. Don't go there Hungry, the food is pretty! but if you're hungry might consider somewhere else, and a little less Spendy!!"

  • "We arrived for our reservation, and were given the option to take our table immediately, or wait 30 minutes for a window seat. We decided to be seated right away at a table one row away from the window. Spectacular view from every table in the room! Our waiter, Jason, was professional and knowledgeable. He had just the right timing, and was there when we needed him. The food was excellent, the steak and salmon were cooked perfectly to order, the portions are generous."

  • "Went here for my 1st wedding anniversary and was blown away. This was not my first visit to PCG but this was a mind blowing experience. They server really made us feel like we were the only ones there. The food was amazing and there was a great wine selection. They even had some pleasant surprises for us for our special occasion."

  • "I was in town for a conference and just happened to find this place on Yelp at the last minute. What a great surprise! The view was amazing and the food and drinks were excellent. Service was just a bit slow, but our server was very nice and knowledgeable, which more than made up for it. The stars of the evening were the pork chop and crab cakes. I highly recommend either of those items!"

  • "When my boyfriend and I first arrived at the grill, we thought we would be treated differently since we are gay and young-looking. We were wrong! At the end of the evening I felt like special attention had been paid to us. We were given the only two-person window seat in the house and our waiter was very attentive, albeit a little slow. Excellent ambience, fantastic view, delicious (but pricey) food. Dinner for two came to 100$ with the tip."

  • "Dinner here is fabulous, the beef short rib actually melts in your mouth (prior to dining here i thought that was just an expression). In addition you get to dine with the city of Portland at your feet. I had never had dinner here while it was still light out, but you could see all the bridges from our table. While the food is pricey, which is why I more often end up here for the view and great happy hour, it is a great treat once in awhile."

The table with a view was breathtaking and the decorations on the table was a very beautiful touch. Thanks to Richard our host for giving us a Romantic evening. The food was absolutely AWESOME!"

  • "As four senior women, we celebrated all of our birthdays in one evening at the Portland City Grill. Our online reservation request noted we were celebrating and requested a window table. Although the Grill wrote back and noted they could not guarantee us a window, we were so happy to find we were not only at a window table but it was colorfully decorated with birthday confetti and a signed card from the staff. The restaurant was quite full for dinner but our servers made us feel like we were the only ones there. The service and food were both the best. The prices reflect great service, great food, and awesome views. The four of us all concur it is well worth treating yourself to.....enjoy."

  • "We tried Portland City Grill for the first time for a weekday lunch. The place wasn't crowded and we easily got a view table. The biggest surprise was the low prices on the lunch menu. I was very pleasantly surprised that they weren't gouging us. About $15/plate which is what I'd expect to pay at any lunch place. I got the tri-tip dip and Grandma got a new BLT offering that was its first day on the menu. We both declared our sandwiches the "best ever!" the other diners in our party also enjoyed their meal, but mostly raved about the view."

  • "I went here with my girlfriend to celebrate our 1-year anniversary. When your ears pop on the elevator ride to the restaurant, you know the view is going to be spectacular. It was! Unfortunately there was an hour wait for a window seat, even though we made reservations. This was no problem however and the staff made sure to seat us as close to the windows as possible. I ordered the king salmon and my girlfriend ordered the sirloin steak. The seasonings on both dishes were heavenly, and her steak was one of the best steaks I had ever tasted (she was kind enough to share a bite). It was tender, juicy and flavorful all the way through. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant. The food was great and the view is unbeatable."

  • "We took my kids (8 & 10) to the restaurant for the first time and they loved it. The only problem was I had troubles keeping my kids in their seats because they wanted to look out the windows. As always, the food and service was amazing."

  • "If we had not received a sizable gift card for this restaurant we would probably not have had dinner there to celebrate our anniversary. It is out of our price range and a 90 minute drive from our home. With that being said, we were delightfully surprised and impressed at the food, ambience and service we received. My husband has hearing aides and has a very difficult time hearing in open public spaces; I suppose that was the only drawback to our experience; noise level. I found it energizing though. We will definitely remember our experience fondly and hopefully come back some time."

  • "We visited Portland this June and heard about the Portland City Grill. From the reviews and photos it looked like it would be a quiet, romantic place with great views of the city. It does have great views of the city if you are lucky enough to get a table near the windows. The food was good to very good."

  • "If you want dinner with a nice view of the Portland area and Mount Hood this restaurant would be recommended. Good food but I found the service to be weak. We may have had a rookie waitress. Nice but simple things she just didn't know."

  • "Since we had never been to the Portland City Grill before and it was a special occasion, our 40th anniversary, we decided to go to a restaurant we had heard a lot about. The food was great and the view was spectacular. Our server was very friendly and on top of all the details. I thought the waiting area good be spruced up, as it really was just chairs in ahallway."
