The renowned art of dry aging finally arrives in San Mateo, as our new dry aging window is now completed. We are proud to be the only restaurant on the Peninsula (In between San Francisco & San Jose) to have an in-house dry aging facility.
Our new menu featuring these marvelous cuts of beef is now available. Tasting menus featuring these exceptional steaks will also be offered.
To accompany your steak, our Wine List celebrates the acclaimed wines of Napa Valley, Willamette Valley, France and Italy. In addition to our steak and chop offerings, our Chef provides for a daily selection of fresh fish and seafood.

  • "I love this place!! The meat is amazing! The service is excellent. Good wine, excellent filet and Porterhouse steak. The Porterhouse Burger is delicious as well as other items on the menu. I've never had a bad dish here. Everything I've tried is wonderful. The owner and the staff are wonderful! The bread pudding and the gelato are amazing!!! My boyfriend and I come here often. I've also met a wonderful group of new friends here. I recommend this place to everyone."

  • "The only reason my overall score was just fair is because we went on a Wednesday night at 7:30. Out of the 5 or 6 steak choices, they were out of two - the rib eye and the porterhouse. The rib eye was what we intended to order. This is a steakhouse and the fact that they had a large party before us was not an adequate excuse. And, I think all steakhouses should offer a baked potato, although that is just my opinion. The potato that came with the meal was different but very good."

This time we shared a cowboy steak, it was cooked to perfect medium rare and it was very tasty due to their meat aging process. Highly recommended for a good steak dinner."

  • "We were spending our last day in the San Francisco area. Since we were flying out early we spent the night near the airport. I used open table to find a steak restaurant. Porterhouse more than met our expectations for a good steak. The food was terrific. There were six of us and we were all pleased. We ordered filets, porterhouses and the cowboy. Each were cooked beautifully and delicious. I loved the twice baked potato, too."

  • "Waiter needs training in customer service. Ribeye was either over cooked or the wrong piece of meat.(rubbery) filet was cooked on the outside and raw/cold in the middle. Crab cakes were fishy. No child's menu. Never refilled drinks."

The other 2 steaks were cooked correctly but delivered to the to the wrong person at the table. I would give the place another chance. If they nail it I am sure the place is quite imprssive."

  • "they messed up their signature steak, the porterhouse. i was so pleased to book a table at porterhouse for father's day. of course i hyped it up that he HAD to have their porterhouse steak. after waiting 80 minutes, our steaks arrive. both were ordered medium rare. the porterhouse was cooked well. there wasn't any hint of red anywhere on the steak. for $49 we were quite disappointed. the waitress was completely understanding and took it off our bill, but did nothing else to make up for their obvious faux pas. most establishments would also offer a complimentary dessert (seeing as now we are sharing one ribeye) or comp a drink or an appetizer. none of this happened. i understand they were busy. however, it is father's day. be prepared!"

Spent over $200 and could not have been more disappointed. New to the area and checking all the places out - we will never go to this place again."

  • "In my opinion, the best steakhouse in San Mateo and one of the best on the peninsula. You have to travel to Alexander's in Cupertino or to the City to eat quality steaks. Personal favorite is the Bone in Ribeye, 'cowboy.' The French fries are also incredible - per my kids."

  • "I don't eat a lot of steak, although I am a fan. Consequently, it took me a while to get around to hitting Porterhouse. The occasion was a business dinner and it had a great atmosphere for this event. I was impressed with the wine list and the diversity of the menu. My Cowboy rib-eye was cooked perfectly medium rare as requested and was delicious. I loved the stuffed potato which seems to come with all of the steak options. A great experience and I will definitely consider it the next time I want a great steak/business dinner experience!"

  • "The one thing you cook is steak right? It's in the name. Medium rare on three steaks are three different things. We sent back two for being cold and raw in the middle and the third was more medium than medium rare. A miss for us. Not even sure if the meat was choice grade level."

  • "I really wanted a steak and saw this on Open Table. Grabbed a friend who loves steak and off we went. The only negatives were I had to ask for the prix fixe menu (which I only knew about because I saw it on OT!) and the ambiance for me was lacking. What may have been lacking on those two points were well made up with the food. First, though was an excellent Manhattan. We opted for the prix fixe so we could sample the starters and share. The duck egg rolls and the house salad were impeccable. Very fresh and not over seasoned or salted. We both opted for the Porterhouse and I can say it was one of the best steaks I have ever had. What knocked my socks off, though, was the twice cooked potato. Never had it that way and it was excellent. "

  • "The only place in San Mateo area for good traditional steak dinner. Reminded me of NYC steak houses - nice big private booths as well as a bright and sunny atrium like room. Baked potatoes, large size steaks (also petites) rich creamy desserts (Grand Marnier Souffle was excellent)and very good wine list. Mostly an adult crowd on Sunday evening - didn't see any meals for kids, but possible to split a dinner. A bit pricey but worth it."

  • "The entry display has slabs of beef hanging in keeping with a beef restaurant. While the prime rib is advertised as going quickly, "limited" supply, that would not be a problem for repeat visitors, since they would not order it again. We both had prime rib and both pieces we tough and fat. It would be surprising if the restaurant did not already know this, but serves it anyway. The side dishes were good, as was the rest of the dinner. Pricey for what you get compared to other restaurants. It is easy to know what the other diners are ordering, since a man shouts the orders across a counter just 5 feet away from the cooking staff. Reminiscent of an outdoor restaurant in Italy, but the shouting indoors does not add to the experience. "

  • "Took coworkers here and they all loved it. Everyone had a different steak and they raved. Mine was great, too. Caesar salad and oysters were excellent. Desserts were pretty good, not fantastic. Wine selection was good but they ran out of our preferred bottle. Would go back. Very good but somewhat serious bartender, too. "

  • "Not a smile other than the person that seated us. With a restaurant that was not very busy it took 10 minutes to get water; our waitress seemingly wanted to take an order, but could not get away from the table fast enough, no validation of the orders; wine was poured with tons of cork in it, and then brought strainers to the table to glass by glass strain; and no offer to make good on poor service and a frustrating beverage experience. The steaks on the other hand were perfectly cooked and very nice cuts of meat. It has a great room for large groups so as to not overwhelm the restaurant with noise from such a large table. The food was good enough I would give the restaurant another chance."

  • "3 of us ordered the smaller Cowboy ribeye.... were told it was $29.... bill came.... $32.... Two of the 3 of us sent it back.... very rare... purple in fact. When open table reservation was made the restaurant was advised this was an 89th birthday for one of the guests. No one seemed to know this until the "END of the dinner when a very small scoop of sorbet/gelato was brought to the table with a candle Very disappointing evening."

The mushrooms were fantastic. Dessert was very good. I really like the way Porterhouse cooks the steaks. You will not be disappointed if you dine here. The price is worth it. I've been here 3 times and have always left satisfied."

  • "I've dined out a fair amount and I found this to be a very poor experience. First of all we were seated 45 minutes late with reservations. The server took forever to help us. They overcharged me for the same drink twice. My porterhouse was over cooked at for $76 you think they would get it right. They ran out of baked potatoes and didn't tell us until they served us. The veg was a pitiful 3 pieces of rabe. Save your money; there are better steakhouses out there."
