My wife and son were a little less favorable as the chicken was a bit dry and one steak a bit rare. That being said, the atmosphere is great, as is the cheerfull service. The Truffle Mashed Yukon gold potatoes were out of this world. Key Lime Pie & the 4 Berry Souffle was deeeeelicious. Our waiter Chris was great. very attentive and informative. gave us fantastic choices when asked. The ambiance was classic and elegant and the entire staff from host to busboy were friendly and inviting.
I have raved to my boss about Porter House NY, and he LOVES a good steak, so we are taking some clients there in a couple of weeks. The wood toned room with a spectacular view from the windows of Time Warner Center is plush, but not over the top. Tables are generously spaced so conversations are private. The steaks are at the same level, expertly prepared, served by a staff that prides itself on its professionalism. If you're looking for a rollicking good time Porter House may not be the place. SO, there are many steak houses, and BLT Steak is better, same crazy prices. We had the lunch special which had lovely choices on the menu. The lobster soup was a delight and both my wife and I had the filet mignon which was absolutely superb. The cheesecake was probably larger than required but was unresistable. It didn't hold up to the other top steakhouse in NYC. The sirloin was excellent as were all the yummy sides. Server was professional, knowledgable, and on point. The management team was actively running the restaurant. The support team was also on top of there game. Water never over half empty and i asked them to stop delivering bread. The hostess was rude and unfriendly. As the first and last impression you have of most dining experiences, this should seal the deal upon entering and leaving. I had requested a table by the window and had to ask for the one that was available. When I asked she sighed and reluctantly took us there. Then we were completely ignored upon leaving. The relaxed atmosphere, service and steaks are always perfect. You cannot find better steaks in New York City.
But why are the appetizer salads so boring? The salads look sooooo delicious on menu but once you taste them, they taste like a 1/2 bag of pre-washed supermarket lettuce with whatever dressing you happened to take from the fridge. This has been our observation several times this year. Following a very nice walk through Central Park, Porter House was a great venue for our family celebration. My daughter had rigatoni bolognese... Excellent. We (the grow ups) had steak for dinner. My wife had the T-bone, well-done. She really enjoyed it. I had the New York Strip, rare. It was delicious! Taste, texture, temperature were all perfect! As an added bonus, the buttermilk battered onion rings... also delicious!
The only nit was the pecan pie for dessert. It was very average. Given the perfection of the preceding courses, the difference was only noticeable because of the greatness of the steaks.

We had the $25.00 lunch special which was the buy of the year, along with some of the best Oregaon Pinot Noir available.We started with the salad of mixed greens I wonder what garden those veggies came from they were so fresh? We had the Salmon with the quinoa and the Petite Filet with mashed potatoes both perfectly cooked, then the old fashion NY cheese cake and the flourless chocolate cake YUMMMM.
