Diner Reviews
  • "This is the place to go for solid American cuisine! Best steak tartar in the city for sure! Everything was great! Even the $21 loaded baked potato was almost worth it!"

  • "Potential for good restaurant. Good location and good menu. Totally rushed by staff to order. Waiter had a bad disposition. Overpriced for comparison with a comparable menu. If the restaurant provides service levels with prices they charge the restaurant could become great. I have been there three times in the last 6 months. This will be my last."

  • "We were very happy with the Porter House Steak restaurant. Our waiter David was very accommodating and we found the steak to be comparable with the top Steak places in the city. I would highly recommend for anyone looking for a good steak in a great location."

  • "We went a month ago on a Sunday, earlier (5:30) and got a seat by the window, very special. This time I had made a reservation on Wednesday for Friday, my birthday, and we were not as lucky with seating, against the wall in the back, but the food and service were just superb! In a restaurant as wonderful as Porterhouse, you can sit in the kitchen and still have an amazing experience. From the scallop (me) and porcini risotto appetizers, to the filet mignon (me) and grilled veal chop (my husband) entrees with onion rings and sautéed mushrooms, everything was delightful and perfectly prepared to our liking. Don't miss the coconut cake and iced cappuccino!!"

  • "From the Time we walked in to the time we left the experience was amazing. The service was perfect. The wait staff was friendly, knowledgeable and just new how to treat people. The Maitre ‘d frequently visited table to see how we were doing. I could talk on and on. The steaks were perfectly cooked as ordered."

  • "Good food. Good service, nice ambiance, but getting pricey over the last year or so. How much will they push the price envelope for a steak. I believe that they are getting a bit overpriced even for a good product."

  • "food is very good if not great, the place is nice, service is attentive. will be back!"

  • "The ambience is lovely - dark wood, soft lighting and huge windows. THe wine list was great. There are lots of affordable wines from really great wineries. We enjoyed everything - skirt steak, NY strip, hash browns, and creamed spinach. The tomatoes and mozzarella was dressed well and the tomatoes were very ripe. The clams casino were delicious also. I was surprised to see so many people poorly dressed here - shorts, tank tops. Why don't people dress for nice dinners anymore?"

  • "I want to eat something good food before to see show at Rose Theater. I found best place. All staff are very nice and kind,(even bar area). Drink served quickly, Food are also reasonable and and perpect place before the theater, maybe Opera too. After the show, I look inside of the restaurant and still many people were eating or dirnking at bar. I guess I can use both per and after theater dinner or drinking. And I will come back if I want to eat something at Time warnner center or near Columbus circle. (THANK YOU!)"

  • "The food and steaks were fantastic as they should be for a restaurant of this caliber and price. What surprised me was the exceptional service we received for a table of 6. We had guests arrive staggered and late and they took it in stride. I did not like my appetizer and it was gone in an instant and replaced with another dish within a few minutes. Steak houses are known for their gruff and know it all staff..while this place has friendly, accommodating and above all transparent staff. Well done Porter House !!"

  • "What a wonderful birthday dinner we had with friends visiting from London. Our selections which included salad, scallop and shrimp starters, steaks and chops for mains were all prepared to perfection and then a great chocolate layer cake for dessert. The service was attentive without being intrusive."

  • "It was celebration for us and a sweet experience. In particular the waiter had a wonderful personality and encouraged our good mood. We requested a view and it was lovely. The sound level and background music added to the ambience and was not intrusive. The Atlantic Salmon was a high point."

  • "I had been to Porter House on many occasions for Sunday lunch before a performance. On June 6th, I brought friends there for their first time. They absolutely loved everything from our table overlooking Central Park, to our very professional waitress, to the lovely staff member who kept the fresh bread coming. My friends, too, will go again and again."

  • "NY Strip was absolutely perfect. Rest of the meal oustanding. Service and atmosphere excellent. Only drawback, even for a steakhouse prices are staggeringly high."

  • "We arrived in the exactly time we had booking our reservation. And we brought our little daughter too. We felt good at the big and well decorated sallon . The amazing view put us with glamorous in the heart of NYC . We really enjoyed our pleasant dinner !"

  • "I ordered the "aged" prime sirloin steak on the bone, Pittsburgh rare. It arrived rare but without the blackened outside crust "Pittsburgh" implies. The steak was NOT aged and it was impossible to cut - I was given a total of three knives none of which could penetrate the muscle strips throughout the steak. Our waiter took my plate to the kitchen and he was told PRIME meat has lots of fat and I was mistaking fat for muscle. I know the difference. A dessert was the peace offering. Our check for three was between $400-500. And the waiter was the only person who spoke to me; none of the managers came to the table. Also, many of the diners were permitted to dine in shorts and baseball caps. Chef Lomonaco should know better. Very declasse!"

  • "The restaurant was wonderful. The service, food atmosphere etc was amazing. Went for a birthday celebration and was surprised they didn't offer a free dessert. The menu was expensive so I think they could of given us a dessert free. I would diffidently eat there again."

  • "This was my 3rd visit to Porter House and again it delivered on quality and service. The food was fantastic. My aunt and I shared the steak tartar and pate foie gras for appetizers and they were spot on. I had the 24 ounce T-bone (which I took most of it home because it was so big) and it was seasoned and cooked to perfection! This is one of the few restaurants that actually gets me when I tell them I want my steak still mooing when it comes out to me. The only pitfall for me is the price; I would visit much more often if it weren't so expensive! But overall an awesome experience. Attention to detail and their attention to us was great!"

  • "We were checked on by multiple staff members who all wished us happy anniversary. We felt like honored guests."

  • "The service is excellent, with great wines and steaks. Even if you aren't a meat eater, the poached lobster entree is fantastic as is the roasted Scottish salmon. They can accomodate large parties of 10 as well as intimate dinners for 2. Yet the noise level never is too loud. Perfect for pre or post Jazz at Lincoln Center dining. If you don't have a reservation, there are booths and tables in the cozy bar area."

  • "I eat out a lot in NY. This was one of the worst steaks, but that does not matter, because this place is not about the food. You arrive and enter via a mall and 3 flights of escalators. I would habe walked out then but I thought, well, give it a chance. The waiter pouring the wine into the water glass, it happens, but do not pour it back from gne water glass into the wine glass. But last and not least came the four steaks, all were dry, which is to say the opposite of succulent, tastless. Fighting through the veins in a $50 cut of meat was really special. But ones thinks maybe the view would retrieve the evening but, alas, as the sun set, the blinds went down, because one person complained. Bad steaks in the deark about sums it up."
