Diner Reviews
  • "Excellent staff and servers. I had a wonderful time."

  • "It was celebration for us and a sweet experience. In particular the waiter had a wonderful personality and encouraged our good mood. We requested a view and it was lovely. The sound level and background music added to the ambience and was not intrusive. The Atlantic Salmon was a high point."

  • "I had been to Porter House on many occasions for Sunday lunch before a performance. On June 6th, I brought friends there for their first time. They absolutely loved everything from our table overlooking Central Park, to our very professional waitress, to the lovely staff member who kept the fresh bread coming. My friends, too, will go again and again."

  • "Lunch 3 course meal is a good deal but food is not impressive at all, especially the steak. We definitely have no desire to return."

  • "The place is great for lunch. A bit overpriced for dinner but still reasonable considering it's in a nice shopping center in Manhattan."

  • "NY Strip was absolutely perfect. Rest of the meal oustanding. Service and atmosphere excellent. Only drawback, even for a steakhouse prices are staggeringly high."

  • "The steak was totally amazing, so did the resoto!!! Although it was just a resoto, their resoto was delicated and well-made. We enjoyed the dinner so much that we would definately go there again."

  • "I ordered the "aged" prime sirloin steak on the bone, Pittsburgh rare. It arrived rare but without the blackened outside crust "Pittsburgh" implies. The steak was NOT aged and it was impossible to cut - I was given a total of three knives none of which could penetrate the muscle strips throughout the steak. Our waiter took my plate to the kitchen and he was told PRIME meat has lots of fat and I was mistaking fat for muscle. I know the difference. A dessert was the peace offering. Our check for three was between $400-500. And the waiter was the only person who spoke to me; none of the managers came to the table. Also, many of the diners were permitted to dine in shorts and baseball caps. Chef Lomonaco should know better. Very declasse!"

  • "The restaurant was wonderful. The service, food atmosphere etc was amazing. Went for a birthday celebration and was surprised they didn't offer a free dessert. The menu was expensive so I think they could of given us a dessert free. I would diffidently eat there again."

  • "Every aspect of our visit could not have been approved upon. Our server was knowledgable, gracious and acted as our well-versed tour guide. The scallop appetizer, crab cake, filet mignonette and pork chops were all done to perfection! The coconut cake was to die for!!"

  • "This was my 3rd visit to Porter House and again it delivered on quality and service. The food was fantastic. My aunt and I shared the steak tartar and pate foie gras for appetizers and they were spot on. I had the 24 ounce T-bone (which I took most of it home because it was so big) and it was seasoned and cooked to perfection! This is one of the few restaurants that actually gets me when I tell them I want my steak still mooing when it comes out to me. The only pitfall for me is the price; I would visit much more often if it weren't so expensive! But overall an awesome experience. Attention to detail and their attention to us was great!"

  • "The service is excellent, with great wines and steaks. Even if you aren't a meat eater, the poached lobster entree is fantastic as is the roasted Scottish salmon. They can accomodate large parties of 10 as well as intimate dinners for 2. Yet the noise level never is too loud. Perfect for pre or post Jazz at Lincoln Center dining. If you don't have a reservation, there are booths and tables in the cozy bar area."

  • "I eat out a lot in NY. This was one of the worst steaks, but that does not matter, because this place is not about the food. You arrive and enter via a mall and 3 flights of escalators. I would habe walked out then but I thought, well, give it a chance. The waiter pouring the wine into the water glass, it happens, but do not pour it back from gne water glass into the wine glass. But last and not least came the four steaks, all were dry, which is to say the opposite of succulent, tastless. Fighting through the veins in a $50 cut of meat was really special. But ones thinks maybe the view would retrieve the evening but, alas, as the sun set, the blinds went down, because one person complained. Bad steaks in the deark about sums it up."

  • "All of us enjoyed fantastic meat ( porterhouse and ribeye ), table was almost perfect, air condition a bit too cold and it was a little bit noisy. Would recommend it anyway!"

  • "I chose this restaurant because Zagat had it listed in its top 10 steak restaurants in NYC. My boyfriend loves steakhouses and it was his birthday so I figured we'd try one we had not been to. The restaurant was not crowded at all and was nice and open. Unlike other steakhouses which are dark, small, and tight. It also overlooks central park. The wait staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The food was amazing! My boyfriend had the cowboy ribeye and i had the filet. The meat was well marbled for the ribeye and was a very good portion. The side I would recommend is the carrots. Also, for dessert the coconut layer cake was like eating a pie. And the wine list was overwhelming. All in all a very good experience!"

  • "made a reservation for lunch because of the prix fix special. arrived at 1:30 and was seated. Looked at the menu to find the dinner menu. Asked for the lunch menu and was told they were not doing lunch today. Obviously the kitchen was open if they could do the much more expensive dinner menu. What nonsense!"

  • "Great for special occasions or for meals in the bar area if you drop by without a reservation. Ambiance, service and food are always exceptional. Fantastic staff and consistently wonderful food. Our must-haves are the foie gras appetizer, filet, bone-in rib-eye, carrots, truffle mashed potatoes, hot fudge sundae and key lime pie ...to drink, the King's Old Fashioned."

  • "I had the steak and it was good but not great. The french fries were too oily and not crispy enough. I had an ice cream sundae for dessert and it was delicious."

  • "Order medium if youre not comfortable with lukewarm center of the steak. Service was good but expected to get the winelist along with the menu, it came only once we asked for it. Otherwise service was very quick and attentive. Meat quality is good, tried the ny strip and chilli rubbed rib eye, both very tender and flavorfull, no steak sauce needed."

  • "Great place for a quiet meal with excellent food. It is a pleasure to eat in a restaurant where everyone at the table can be heard without shouting. Highly recommend."

  • "My cousin and I very much enjoyed our luncheon courses of steak-cooked exactly as ordered-- and salmon.Crisp salad, good coffee and a decent cheesecake. Most of the wait staff was too polite, more robotic than genuine. One waitress was so loud that my slightly deaf cousin could hear her quite well but I had to cover an ear. The diners were noisy and at one point a child was yelling and running through, but that was brief. Truthfully, I don't like the Time Warner building and the over bearing bronze with the little organ that greets you in the lobby. In the end, the Porter House is like dining in an ugly suburban mall. Many might like this atmosphere but i won't return again."

  • "We have enjoyed several great meals at Porter House over the last few years, but last time around, we got a very clear message from our first contact that the staff wanted us to get through our meal as quickly as possible and move on. Each course was presented and cleared rapidly, sometimes with numerous requests for " can we clear." At the end of the day, we were out the door from start to finish in just over 60 minutes. This was Friday night after a long flight from Europe and for me a great disappointment. I did bring my feelings to management and frankly was less than impressed by the level of interest and engagement. "

  • "I've eaten here many times and it is always an outstanding experience. The space is high-end but not stuffy and the food has never disappointed. This is not the most old-school steakhouse in New York; it is casually elegant."

  • "Excellent and wonderful. They treat everyone special and remember past diners. Food and service can't be beat."

  • "We went to Porter House for lunch. We love going to steak houses because they generally have good seafood, which we both love. There is only two fish options On the lunch menu, salmon and swordfish. I ordered the Salmon and my husband had the chicken. The salmon was cooked as I requested but was quite bland. My husband thought the chicken was better seasoned. I think we will try the steaks the next time to see if this is where Porter House shines. On a good note, the wait staff was great, very friendly and helpful. "

  • "This restaurant had some of the worst service I've ever experienced. It's described as a high end steak house and listed on some web sites as a good spot for a romantic meal. The view out the window is beautiful but inside the restaurant you'll be treated to people in t-shirts and flip flops and families with screaming kids at the table next to you. Our steaks were not cooked in any way similar to what we ordered, the side dishes were bland and I can not stress how terrible the service was. For that privilege you'll fork out 300 bucks and really - even in New York - that is just completely over priced. I would have considered myself fleeced if we paid 50 bucks for the meal. Next time we'll try Keens."
