Diner Reviews
  • "we have a delightful birthday celebratory dinner in New York at the Porter House. The wait staff was attentive but not overbearing. The wine list is superb!! Vegetables are ordered a la carte, and would easily serve 3 - 4, so be warned. I ordered the Florida tomato salad which was delicious as ws my husband's caesar salad. I cannot think of a single drawback!"

  • "Table location request was honored without hesitation. Sensational views, superb service with very helpful recommendations. Food was top shelf all around. This is a popular spot but a rare find. Wonderful experience . Thanks."

  • "This is the first time we ate here for dinner- we have had lunch here many times. We shared a chopped salad which was delicious. They brought it already divided. I had the lamb chops and my husband had the rigatoni . Both were delicious . We had the coconut cake. It was a huge piece that we brought home. If you are near Columbus Circle , this restaurant is worth a visit."

  • "We had a wonderful time there. I added a note to my reservation that my companion was severely allergic to nuts and that it was his birthday. The waitress swooped in like a guardian angel when she saw him about to take a bite of the raisin bread, which had nuts in it. Additionally, the managers and other staff stopped over occasionally and said happy birthday to him. He was so happy."

  • "nice but not better or superior than any other steak house like Peter Luger. Rothmans in LI."

  • "My wife and I celebrated our 17th anniversary at Porterhouse and it was probably the most memorable dinner we've ever had. The food was amazing and the service was even better. They were so attentive and kind. I definitely recommend it to anyone looking to enjoy their dinner in a great restaurant."

  • "Very nice place - sleek decor and a nice menu with an awesome wine list I felt a bit rushed however as my salad appeared the same time my drink did Great steak though !"

  • "I chose this restaurant as I had friends visiting in NYC and this was close to their hotel. The restaurant is beautiful and our waiter was great, but I was expecting the food to be better. The classic Cesar salad was the best part of the meal. We ordered steakhouse staples: porter house, creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. All were bland. Our plates weren't hot enough to add that extra sizzle to our medium rare steak. I don't mind spending money when it's worth it, but especially for the price, I was disappointed."

  • "Everything was wonderful, but there could have been additional less costly choices on the wine list. However, the sommelier was very helpful."

  • "Great meal! Always my go to spot for a steak! Its nice they have Stone Rose right next door incase you are having alittle more energy. But I was full and satisfied! I normally go there with groups and we always get the bed seating, but I just went there with another friend. Custermer service could have been better my last time going, but everytime I go with a group everything is PERFECT."

  • "Had another fine dinner here. Waiter helped us find a nice, new wine which we loved. The steaks are outstanding which you expect. And yet I really the love the chopped salad at this place. My favorite salad in New York. Going back again in 2 weeks!"

  • "My husband took me to Porter House during a birthday trip to New York City. The food was very good, the service was outstanding, and the views were spectacular. Our waiter, Joe, was warm, friendly, and attentive, and made our experience that much more enjoyable. I highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "We made reservations on open table two hours before and got right in with a line of people waiting. We had Ronnie as a waiter and he was perfect. Made sure we had everything we needed. One of the best waiters I've ever had! Beyond that the food was perfect as you would expect from a NYC restaurant."

  • "I took my girlfriend here to celebrate a very special occasion and it was a great experience overall. The food and service were excellent and they were able to seat me by the window at my request. Will likely return within the next year (or next special occasion)."

  • "I knew that Porter House NY was a high end restaurant before making reservations for four. As it turned out the food, service and ambience made it an enjoyable experience. All of us were very pleased that we selected this restaurant. The only thing that could have elevated this dinner to an ethereal level would have been if our table overlooked Central Park."

  • "This is a good option for pre-opera dining. I decided to come here before attending a performance at the Met. It is close to Lincoln Center. I would come here again."

  • "Chef Michael Lomonaco has one of the top steak houses on the east coast, with a selection of beef and other meats that is high quality. The view of central park and down Columbus Circle to 5th Avenue, cam only be topped by the excellent service and succulent meals that are always great. There are some restaurants that i frequent that will have an occasional off night, but not here. Whether for a birthday party, wedding anniversary, family dinner, or quick business lunch, Porterhouse has always delivered first class."

  • "Although the steaks are done to perfection, I though that the pricing was still a bit on the high side. In my view this is a very expensive steak dinner. Vegetables and sides are all priced separately."

  • "Our second visit to Porter HOuse was even better than the first time we went there. Friends joined us this time and we were able to expand what we ordered and shared some dishes to our great satisfaction. The restaurant has excellent food, service and a very attractive and comfortable atmosphere. In addition the wine list is extensive with many wines to choose from at every price level. For us the range of prices is a hallmark of a very good wine list. Finally, Porter House is very professionally run. We are eager to return."

  • "We use to come to the Porter House a few times per year, but about3 years showed had a number of bad experiences with the food and service. However this year (2014) we tried it again and fell backinlove with the food, service, and ambiance!! Great johann I hope to return soon."

  • "I have been to several of NY's top steak houses and Porter is up there with the rest. Our service this evening could have been better. The sommelier was great as was the bread guy and the GM but our particular waiter was slow at each step, taking our order, checking on our meals, whether we wanted dessert and even bringing our bill. I understand these types of restaurants are not meant to be fast paced but this was unusually and unacceptably slow. The food was very good, caeser's salad was fantastic as was the key lime pie. The cowboy cut steak was very good, not outstanding but very good."

  • "It was totally misleading. I had set up this reservation on this site specifically for the Restaurant Week special. It goes through , i have the reservation and it turns out when I arrive there is no offer for dinner. In this day and age of modern tech how on earth does this occur . I cost me far more than I had been prepared to spend at that time. Very good I did indeed enjoy the dinner."

  • "We have had lunch here many times on our trips to NYC. This is a first for dinner, and we invited a friend to join us. It did not disappoint. The food is excellent and straightforward, portions generous but not overwhelming, and the service attentive but not hovering. The wine list is very good and everyone is pleasant. A wonderful experience, great food, and a good time to be had in a great venue (Time Warner Center)."

  • "A friend and I met for a Saturday lunch. We both ordered the $25 prix fix menu. When the bill came we were staggered by the price for alcohol. I had 1 martini which was 20.00 USD. Our bill was over 100 USD. Next time we'll stick to tap water with lemon. With tip it cost us $60 each. It was ridiculous for lunch."

  • "On 4th floor of Time Warner building at Columbus Circle. That had me worried, but inside restaurant the decor and ambiance is classic NY steakhouse. Great service from knowledgeable waitstaff, diverse wine list, all the classic steakhouse menu options. Went with the evening special, a 45 oz bone-in ribeye for two. Great choice. Cooked to perfection. Sides were also perfectly prepared. This is a good spot on upper west side"

  • "The Winter Restaurant Week Menu is very value for money. However the Chili rubbed rib eye was the highlight of the meal. Very unique flavor for a steak. Would highly recommend. Would rate it better than Peter Luger"

  • "It was my mother's Birthday. I requested a table by the window at 6:00 reservation. There were number of tables available, but the hostess refused to give us the table we wanted. Then I called manager and he gave us the table by the window with a great view right away. He was very gracious and made our visit very enjoyable. I wish, that he can teach the hostess at his restaurant the same."

  • "Love this place. The food was amazing albeit it being mass pre-prepared food for Restaurant Week. My friend and I ordered the Steak Frites and his medium-rare steak was seared beautifully, unlike mine. The leek and lentil soup and the endive salad were great; the desserts were great: Cheesecake and Sorbet; the view was amazing. The server was sweet and friendly but came off as a little condescending. Still like her though. Would definitely come back here again for special occasion and request a window seat."

  • "The steak was undercooked, would have complained but the waiter was nowhere to be found. In fact, we barely saw the guy and had to chase him down for everything. He was very dismissive and barely acknowledged our order. Also, this is the first time I have ever ordered a glass of wine and didn't get a chance to at least taste it before it being poured. This is a common practice for the lowliest of places, why wouldn't it be so at the Porter House?"

  • "Met my son for dinner prior to a Jazz at Lincoln Center concert. We had the Winter Margarita, a specialty drink from the bar, which was quite good. For appetizers he had the Crab Cake and I the Scallops. Both were delicious though I seem to recall getting three scallops when I had the dish here last year. For the main course, he had the Roast Chicken and I had the Veal Chop. They were beautifully prepared. I highly recommend the Veal Chop-superb! We had coffee and shared a piece of Key Lime pie for a finish to a great dinner. Service was polished and attentive. We then took the escalator up one flight for the concert! Super convenient spot for an excellent pre-concert dinner."

  • "Went to Porterhouse thinking we were getting a Restaurant Week special, but they were NOT participating in dinner, although I thought I had checked that. In any case, they were very nice about accomodating my request near a window, service was very good, and the food as well. Fortunately, my friends were more than forgiving about my error, and a good time was had by all. But prices are really HIGH!"

  • "Went for lunch during Restaurant Week. Ordered the Caesar Salad and requested anchovies. No problem and they were excellent as was the salad. Ordered the Salmon which was beautifully prepared and delicious. Flourless chocolate cake and a latte for desert- both were flawless. Service was excellent. Enjoy!"
